ITV Schedules “Celebrity Millionaire: Remembrance Special” For November 9th

ITV is bringing back the long running quiz show Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, hosted by Chris Tarrant, for another of its sporadic celebrity specials.  This time they will be doing Celebrity Millionaire: Remembrance Special.  The Remembrance Special will air Wednesday, November 9th, at 8:00PM.  Members of the Royal Navy, Royal Army, and Royal Air Force will team up with some of the UK’s favorite celebrities to win up to £1,000,000 for the Forces Benevolent Fund.  The previous celebrity specials were live, though there is no indication whether this will be.

Millionaire has switched to a celebrity format since December 2010 and has not had a civilian version, with contestants playing for themselves, since.  Ratings for the previous five celebrity specials have averaged over 4.9 million viewers, an increase from the 3.5 million viewer average of the civilian episodes.

Here’s a look at what the last Millionaire special, with soap stars, looked like.

The British Millionaire set is brilliant.

Few more details for the Rememberence Special.

    - The show will not be shown live. The special will be recorded 24 hours before on 8th November.
    - Since the show won’t be shown live. There will be no viewer competition. All money won on the show will go to charity.
    - There are no audience tickets for the public. This is because the audience will be filled by current Armed Forces members and veternans.
    - Three pairs have been annouced. Each one will be a member of the Forces to be paired with a celebrity. The celebrities are Hugh Bonneville (from Emmy award winning Downton Abbey), Melanie Sykes (TV presenter) and John Thomson (comedian from The Fast Show).
    - The show annoyingly continues to choose celebrities who have played the format before. Melanie Skyes appeared on the show in December 2002. With John Thomson becoming the first celebrites to take on the 12 question format in August 2007.
    – It is expected it will follow the previous live editions. Also as the show will run for 60 minutes and not for 75 minutes. It is very likely one pair will not reach the hot seat.

They need to bring civilian contestants back.
If they’re going to show nothing but celebrity specials, then what’s the point of keeping the show on the air if civilians can no longer participate?
