ION Television ALSO Picks Up O’Hurley’s “Family Feud”

Does the title seem familiar to you? Yeah it does to me as well. On Monday, we announced GSN’s acquisition of John O’Hurley’s first two seasons of Family Feud. Well it was announced on Tuesday that ION Television, a network that used to be known as PAX has also picked up the show. It begins on April 7th which is actually a month before it premieres on GSN. The show will air at 7pm & 7:30pm. That’s right, two airings. Check your local listings for times in your area though.

ION Television (PAX) back in the day used to air shows such as Supermarket Sweep and Shop Til’ You Drop every night until they changed formats and have recently become your TV Land of channels airing such classics as Mama’s Family, Baywatch, Who’s The Boss?, and the awesome Drew Carey Show. Yeah, Family Feud really doesn’t fit into ION’s schedule really well, but hey, I’m not complaining.

Yeah what Sean said. PAX was really the game show destination with Shop Till You Drop (old and new), On The Cover, Balderdash, Supermarket Sweep, and Karn Feud. Even though PAX has a new format and a new name (Ion) I think this was good acquisition for them and of course looks even better for O’ Hurley staying around for quite a long while.

I think it is a terrific idea. There are still people who can’t afford digital cable or satellite service (which carries GSN) and this would be good for those with standard or expanded cable–until 2/17/2009, when all TV channels have to go to an all-digital signal.

Why all of the sudden interest in O’Hurley?

I don’t see how this would be such a bad fit for ION. They’ve become more of a “general interest” channel now. I think they wanted to distance themselves from game shows for a little bit, but now that they’ve established themselves as a network with more variety, they can once again start airing the Feud. Karn’s version was a consistent fixture in the 7:30 slot for a while, so it must have been doing fairly well. I could only imagine O’Hurley would do just as well or better.

Greg - because he’s GOOD. O’Hurley is doing an excellent job on the Feud.

    A great pickup for ION.

I’m glad O’Hurley is getting more exposure. To me he’s this generation’s Richard Dawson. John has been doing a damn fine job with the Feud. Mr. Dawson would be proud. 2008 has been FF’s year so far. I can see the future of Feud being a bright one. Fremantle did the right thing picking John O’Hurley for FF.

I think it would be great to have at least one or two game shows on ION. Family Feud is a good start, but how about a new season of Supermarket Sweep? That could definetly bring some ratings in.
