Posted by Alex Davis as Identity, NBC, Returning Show, Schedule Change
NBC announced “Identity”’s returning timeslot. The Penn Jillette fronted psychological guessing game will debut its second series of episodes on March 16th from 9PM to 10PM ET. The following week it will fit into its regular schedule location, Fridays at 8PM ET. This takes the spot of “1 VS 100″. Right now, it looks like everything is staying the same. I do have to say that I am a bit sad that “1 VS 100″ will be going. I really feel it’s the best show of the new game show explosion. “Identity” is cool and all, but to me, it just doesn’t hold a candle to “1 VS 100″.
In response to a comment just left, right now we’re guessing that “1 VS 100″ is just going on a hiatus. Its ratings keep growing and we just can’t see it being gone for good. We’re just guessing it’s temporary. We contacted NBC, and we’ll find out what’s going on ASAP.

When you say that 1 vs. 100 will be “going,” you don’t mean it will be going forever, do you? Say it isn’t so, Alex!

1 vs. 100, while potentially better (not in my opinion) than Identity, doesn’t even hold a candle to “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” or “The Weakest Link”. Being the best of a mediocre bunch isn’t saying very much.

Oh not at all, and if I made it seem like that, I’m sorry. Honestly, out of the primetime game shows of the past, wow, 7 years (man I’m getting old), I’d put it at 4th, behind Millionaire, Link, and Paranoia. You are correct that it doesn’t hold a candle to those two. However, I wouldn’t say it’s mediocre. It’s a very nice show that just has a few flaws in it. I’d call Identity mediocre and 1VS100 a big leap above that, even though the leap from 1VS100 and Millionaire/Link can’t be measured.

A slightly outlandish suggestion: Monday 8/7c and Friday 8/7c as rotating game show slots, with Deal, 1 vs 100 and Identity going on runs of 6-8 weeks before swapping over. A bit like the lottery show rotation on Sunday nights on Tien (between Miljoenenjacht and… Een Tegen 100) and Saturday nights on BBC1 (between In It To Win It, Jet Set and… 1 vs 100). Just with two shows a week instead of one.

NBC! What the $%&# man! Do not take away 1 vs. 100… I just can not get attached to the Identity thing…

1 vs. 100 is my favorite currently produced game show, and the only one airing new episodes that I make sure to make time for every week. Hopefully NBC keeps making it, it’s the most addictive game show in years!

1 vs. 100 is the best out of a mediocre bunch, but the show itself is actually pretty enjoyable and far above mediocre.
I’m sorry, I just can’t get into Identity with its faux-drama, and drawn-out tedium.

That is totally F’d up. I was SO ready to do my audition tape for 1 vs. 100 tomorrow and all through this weekend. Hell, I’m designing the set in a 3d modeling program as my final project.
Goes to show that NBC is run by idiots.

Ok, everyone settle down. Let’s think about this………
Identity returns March 16 at 9:00 p.m., right? 1 vs. 100 will air that night at 8:00 p.m.
When I checked Identity’s renewal news, it said it was renewed for SEVEN for episodes. That means, after doing some quick calculating, Identity’s next run of episodes will last until the end of April. In time for……………..MAY SWEEPS!
If NBC does the right thing, they will then bring 1 vs. 100 back to complete it’s first season in May and also June, perhaps. 1 vs. 100 is doing great and there is no reason it won’t return after Identity’s next run. Maybe NBC is giving these two shows some equal exposure. That’s the logical way I see it anyway.
Alex, let us know right away though.

That is a very good point you made there, ‘777′. I didn’t think of it like that. It’s just that with NBC’s reputation of cancelling thigns that are good and replacing them with crap, it’s hard to not cry wolf. Or easy? Eh, it’s late over here anyway.

I do hope this does not spell the end of 1 Vs. 100. It’s better than DonD and Identity. It’s kind of the game show for game show fans with all of the former game show contestants and hosts it has had on. I feel almost like they are reaching out for that small demographic thus giving it the support of us Die Hard fans of game shows.

I think it will be back…I was getting worried really that the Millionare mistake was going to happen with DoND and 1 vs 100 and this avoids this problem, using Identity as a drop in show instead of airing repeats makes sense…I wouldnt worry unless they say something definative.

alex, i love you, but tsk tsk tsk…your headline has everyone completely batty…all this whining is a bit much…good Lord! 1 vs 100 is NOT going away…if it was NBC would NOT be casting the next set of shows and they would have made an announcement that is being cancelled, but they didn’t, did they?
777, i think you hit it right on the head with your post…thank you for putting a little thought and sense into it rather than overreacting…i think NBC knows exactly what they’re doing…
on another note, i’m ecstatic IDENTITY is coming back…then i’ll be ecstatic when 1 vs 100 comes back in May…it keeps everything fresh and rather than running reruns of everything we have NEW FRESH shows to watch every week…
think ya’ll think! i still love you alex! hehehe ;)

Can’t imagine NBC outright canceling *1 vs. 100,* especially since the show was asking for mob members and “1″ contestants the last few episodes, and promotions for the show seem to be up.
I agree with the peanut gallery that *1 vs. 100* is likely being put on the backburner until May sweeps — show will probably tape another 5-6 episodes specifically for May-early June.
Also, *1 vs. 100*, IIRC, is the second-best freshman series NBC has in terms of ratings (*Heroes* is first). Saget is doing better ratings-wise than *Studio 60*, *30 Rock,* *Friday Night Lights* and *Grease* — all shows that receives a bigger promotional push than *1 vs. 100*. And *1 vs. 100* gets more total viewers than *The Apprentice* — poor Donald! :)
Let’s be honest, there’s really no place to put *Identity* on the current NBC schedule other than Friday nights at 8p ET. NBC will not risk putting a new show on against Idol or Dancing, and I have a feeling *Las Vegas* and the original *Law and Order* will not return next season, so let both shows finish their runs without being pre-empted.

It is likely that NBC is just giving 1v100 a rest, just as it did with DoND over the summer. Iit is good that Identity is back and hopefully with some sensible tweaks (how many times, I remind you, has 1v100 changed its format since first airing?). When the Peacock cancels something, they usually say so clearly.
Let’s remember that the true game show programming idiots are at ABC and Fox (there seems to be no such prime time programing at CBS, save for TPIR and GSMarathon, so they are in a different league altogether). If it weren’t for NBC we would be having nothing to kvetch about…so let’s be grateful…

Semi-happy Identity is coming back, but INCREDIBLY sad 1v100 is leaving, even for a brief period of time.
Outside of Wheel, 1v100 has been the ONLY appointment game show for me as of late. However, the idea posed that it could come back just in time for May sweeps is intriguing and believable, I feel. Either way, NBC has no reason to let it go permanently, and I’m sure they didn’t. It’ll be back, count on it.
As for not having enough time slots for these 3 shows, I say that’s BS. I think I stated before what would be a good setup:
MON-DoND
TUES-Donald, The Biggest Loser *or whatever*
WED-Identity (can be switched with Friday if wanted)
THURS-DoND
FRI 1v100 (can be switched with Wed if wanted)
However, I’m almost certain NBC won’t cancel Las Vegas and Law and Order (especially the latter), but nothing would surprise me at this point. NBC needs some major overhauling with the great majority of their schedule, and even though I think it’d be the best, I don’t see either series being let go at this point…

It upset me so much to see it gone from Friday night line up! I sure hope they do not remove it since it is so enjoyable for all to play along with. This game takes more brains than opening a suitcase! Idenity is great also.
