Hulk Hogan Finalizing Deal to host “Gladiators”

According to TVWeek, pro-wrestler turned actor turned reality star Hulk Hogan is close to becoming the host of NBC’s mid-season revival of American Gladiators. NBC sees Hogan as “the perfect fit” for the “Gladiators” revival, sources say. In addition to his experience as a physical performer during his years with the World Wrestling Federation, Hogan has proved he can draw viewers with sheer force of personality in his successful VH1 reality series “Hogan Knows Best.”

    Hulk Hogan?!?!? Huh?!?!

    I don’t know, Brother!

I can think of many other people that can fill the hosting role a lot better (*cough* BILL GOLDBERG*cough*) But maybe he’s like that “TV Poker” kind of host and they have someone else doing commentary and/or play-by-play. That’s what I’m thinking. But who knows….This might be a good thing. We’ve been wrong before.

  • Tim Connolly says:

    NO GOD NO.

    PLEASE NO.

  • Chris Parsley says:

What’cha going to do, when Gladiators stink up more than NBN, brother?

  • Luke says:

I think he will fit in nicely. I am a little worried, I don’t like when he says brother all the time, but other than that I think he will do good.

Now why haven’t we heard anything about Mike Adamle being host. I think that would be a huge mistake if they don’t bring him back.

  • Jordan Hass says:

Actually, I was joking when I said, all the gladiators would be WWE Superstars, How close am I? Seeing Hulk Hogan be the host of this show sounds actually wonderful.

I know that everyone wants Mike Admole, but I would like to see Hulk & Mike work together…

    AND I THINK IT WILL GO A LITTLE SOMETHING…. LIKE THIS;

Mike:and now we move on to powerball, where contenders dunk these balls into the nets on the field.

Hulk: AND I GOTTA TELL YOU BROTHER, THAT TO BLOCK THEM FROM THEIR PATH, WE HAVE “OMEGA” “SPARK” AND “CHRONO” DUDE! WHAT ARE THE CONTENDERS GOING TO DO BROTHER? WHEN THE GLADIATORS RUN ALL OVER YOU.

Mike: *stares blankly* *sighs* I wish Zonka was back…

  • Marc Power says:

Hulk might be okay if he can tone it down. If Mike Adamle tags along as a comentator it would be fine either way, Mike was strong enough through the years to carry the show with a couple of bad co-hosts.

Before any jumps all over me I am not implying that all of his co-hosts we’re terrible.

  • Antonio says:

I won’t anything until American Gladiators starts in midseason and I know he will do a better than Dylan Lane that’s for sure…

  • David Howell says:

Charismatic wrestler with other TV experience. There’s definitely logic there. I have a feeling his choice would maintain a certain cheese factor to proceedings; that may well work.

  • Nikolai says:

Hulk Hogan hosting “American Gladiators”. I never thought I’d see that on network tv. Mike and Hulk would probably make a good team. The thing is, where’s Mike when you need him?

  • Scott says:

Will the Gladiators be tested for steroids. Watch out, NBC…this may come back to haunt you.

  • HQ says:

As long as Hogan can check his ego at the door and doesn’t make the show about him I see no problem with him as host.

  • Tony says:

I don’t know. It could be alright.

I suspect the whole Hulkster persona is more of a put-on than we know, and as he gets older and grows (slowly, way too slowly, but still) out of the wrestling soap opera end of his life and becomes Grandpa Grappler, he’ll drop the affectations and become just another orange-skinned muscle dude, especially since he’s not going to be doing a lot past holding a microphone and telling the hundreds of millions of viewers how hard it is on one’s lats to climb that big foamy pyramid while ex-college football players named, I don’t know, Ace or Crunch or Pec bear down on you from above.

I trust he’d see the humor in it, and not feel the need to get his game face on too much. With a little luck, he could become the Henry Rollins of wrestling. (Now *there’s* someone who would be an awesome host for Gladiators.)

  • Eric says:

Do they want the competition to look rigged? The original AG at least the appearance of a legitimate sports competition. NBC Did not need a big name for the revival. The name of the show would have brought viewers to watch it.

  • Greg says:

    Hulk Hogan? Hosting AG?

(to the tune of “Car 54, Where Are You?”)

There’s a holdup in the Joust,
    Nitro’s breaking up the fights.
There’s a gladiator on the loose,
    He takes contestants’ rights.
    There’s a Scout troop short a child,
    And does Jazz love Gemini?!?!?!?!

    MIKE ADAMLE, WHERE ARE YOU

  • JohnGoodman says:

Personally, I’m fine with the decision as long as the Hulkster’s untalented, butterfaced daughter isn’t involved.
