GSN is unveiling a ton of new shows in 2007. All the shows were announced during the Winter 2007 Television Critics Association meeting. Here are the shows announced.
These are shows now in production.
*12 Yard Productions is producing a US version of the UK show “Without Prejudice?”. David Young is the executive producer of this show, where one of five contestants is guaranteed to leave with a large cash sum: they just have to convince a panel of personalities that they deserve the money.
*This was one of those shows that people either loved or hated: “Chain Reaction” has officially been renewed for a second season. We have no idea if anything will be changing for season 2, but it debuts March 13th.
*”Lingo” season 6 will be debuting Monday, April 2nd at 7:30PM ET. The progressive jackpot is staying. They will be inviting past contestants back to play against the online tournament champions, as they did last season.
*My personal favorite show that GSN has on the network, “World Series of Blackjack”, will be taping at the end of the month and is set to air at an unspecified time in June.
*”Cat-Minster: CFA International Cat Championship” will be a two hour special airing on Tuesday, March 27th at 8PM ET. The show will be hosted by former “That’s The Question” host Bob Goen and Marianne Curan. It’s a cat show, and that’s all I have to say about that.
*The final round of the “National Vocabulary Championship”, which Buzzer has been following for a while, will air Sunday, April 15th at 8PM ET. The show will crown the first champion and award $40,000 to the winner. “Chain Reaction” host Dylan Lane will preside over it.
THESE SERIES ARE IN DEVELOPMENT
*Lion TV is producing “The Box” for GSN. It’s a live reality show where contestants will have to live in a large glass box in the middle of an American city. Every day, two contestants will have to build up the bank of money, and at night a battle of wits will be played live on GSN to determine who moves on to play another day and who leaves The Box. After three weeks, one person will be champion and win all the money.
*”Carry Your Weight” is the product of the company that did the most amazing original in ages (”I’ve Got A Secret”), Burt Dubrow and Jean Weigman. This game show will see three teams of three people, each representing a different trait (Brains, Beauty, and Brawn) play against each other in some game. Not much is known right now, but this was devised by “L.A. Law” star Corbin Bernsen.
*Remember when ABC was piloting “Grand Slam”? GSN has picked it up. This show is being made by Michael Davies and Sony. It will see 16 of the biggest game show champions battle each other in games involving numbers, words and letters, and trivia.
*I have no idea what this show is about: “Indecision”. One contestant will have to make nine decisions during the show that could change that person’s life forever, but make a wrong decision and it could be costly. Someone will walk away with a small fortune after every episode, but as a twist, it may not always be the contestant. We’ll have to see how this one goes.
*Get ready to bitch, everyone! More reality. GSN is making “Kerry’s Getting Married”, where one woman will search for the perfect man. The at-home audience gets to make her decisions for her as well, a la “Love Connection”.
*Buena Vista Productions is making “Camouflage” for the network. This fast paced word game makes contestants find hidden words from a word puzzle, but there are extra letters in it. For instance, if you are given BRAINCHUORIC and the clue is “Newsperson”, reading the puzzle left to right reveals the word “ANCHOR” when you say it. We’ll have to see how this one goes.
*”War of the Words” sees contestants having to guess a word by a series of definitions given. Guess wrong or don’t know and your opponent gets another definition. For instance, if you are given the clues “A kind of business”, “To fool around”, “A type of wrench”, and “Zoo animal Howler”, the answer would be “MONKEY”.
GSN also has new documentaries….

…speaking from England where we had Without Prejudice? and Grand Slam…
…HOLY HELL YES. GSN have made some inspired moves there. I severely hope Kerry’s Getting Married is a flop and the rest aren’t. It’ll probably be the reverse, though :(

HOORAY! Kudos to GSN for picking the pace on game shows and ner programming! I also wanted to see Grand Slam, and now it looks like we will…Finally! Grand Slam is a great format where only the best compete! That’s how it should be. It looks as if GSN finally GETS IT, if you know what I mean. Exciting!

Without Prejudice?-Should be a lot of fun.
Chain Reaction-Let’s hope they learn from their mistakes.
Lingo-No surprise there.
World Series of Blackjack-Ditto.
Catminster-As I have a couple of kitties myself, I’m strangely looking forward to this.
Nationa Vocabulary Championship-I’m leaning a bit towards “won’t watch” here.
The Box-Can anybody say Cram 2.0?
Carry Your Weight-Corbin Bernsen came up with this? Geez.
Grand Slam-This one has “appointment TV” written all over it.
Kerry’s Getting Married-This reminds me of a certain Fox show which was an absolute disaster (hint: it was before The Rich List).
Camouflage-Interesting idea, we’ll see what happens.
War of The Words-Does a certain game show remake of the 90’s come to mind? Anyone? Bueller? BUELLER?
Documentaries-Out of them all, the Insider’s Guide to Winning Game Show Millions sounds the most appealing.

I seriously hope that “Kerry’s Getting Married” is a flop, and KenJen appears on “Grand Slam.” Both seem very likely.
Also, when will GSN realize that Dylan Lane is horrible?

Unlike many people here I’m actually looking forward to everything GSN has to offer. Some of you think that just because GSN has some reality shows in development that all of a sudden there’s going to be some catastrophic hell unleashed upon the world. DEAL WITH IT!
On another note, I’m rather surprised GSN didn’t mention anything about That’s the Question returning for a second season. Maybe it’ll happen in future announcements but just not this batch.

I suspect complaints about the Engrish questions killed that one off. Which, considering how easily that could have been fixed for a new run, is a shame.
A Jennings vs Carpenter match would be darned interesting, especially with the words-and-numbers element. The inclusion of that in the US version too, rather than a switch to trivia, rather suggests to me that there’ll be a few Lingo champs thrown in amongst what could otherwise easily end up as Jeopardy! vs Millionaire.

Props to GSN. I just they find time to air all those classic with this great mill of new shows they’re producing… ;)
All in all, most of them sound promising. I’m especially looking forward to Grand Slam and who prevails of the great GS minds. I have a few questions though:
Without Prejudice: Was that rumored for another network? I thought the peacock, but not sure. Don’t take my word as gospel…
Indecision: Why is it, that when I read that, the first thought that came to mind was Inquizzition? Maybe it’s just because of a similar name, maybe not. Did that thought occur to anyone else?
Camoflauge: Remind anyone of a slightly retooled “Now You See It?” If it’s similar in nature, that will be appointment TV for me. I LOVE NYSI… :D

Wheelloon…
“Without Prejudice: Was that rumored for another network?”
The UK version aired on BBC America a few years or so ago. I don’t remember hearing anything about one of the big networks picking it up after that.

Carpenter and Jennings in Grand Slam would be interesting…but I think Joe Trela will give them all a run for their money. He was one of the only “wise men” to actually help the contestant win on the revamped version of WWTBAM a couple of years ago. Though he may be hindered by his “reflective” manner in answering questions… Really looking forward to this battle of the brains
