Posted by Alex Davis as Bingo America, GSN, Schedule Change
Don’t bored the doom and gloom train just yet, readers. GSN updated their schedules today and it’s only a small change. Whammy! will be replacing Bingo America weekdays at 7:00PM, and Pyramid will take Bingo America’s spot weekends at 4:30PM. Again, before everyone cries about the end and ratings which no one knows and that stuff, GSN is still giving out money to home viewers during the reruns. It’s not as much because they are awarding less winners, but it’s still money they are giving away for reruns. Bingo America is not a show which is made for GSN’s standard practice of rerun abuse at all. It’s made for a cycle of about once and that’s it. It’s a show that would make a lot of sense if they’d take a chance a few more than 40 episodes. Bingo America will definitely be back in the Fall. If I were GSN, I’d just think about maybe bringing it back a few weeks before the new episodes come out to remind people the show exists and it hasn’t been canceled. A maneuver like this has hurt a lot of shows in the past.
I’m in more shock that Whammy! is still so friggin popular. I’ve been assured by GSN that it’s one of their higher rated shows which stuns me. All I’m saying is I’d think about reviving it if it is still that popular. Fremantle’s apparently interested, as they’re shopping it around the world still. It really can’t be any worse than a million dollar cat game show, can it?
Check out the GSN schedules on the sidebar. Schedules through August have been updated. I haven’t been sent anything about September yet.

That’s unfortunate. Although there’s a lot of repetition to this show, largely from host Patrick Duffy, Bingo America is a very watchable show. The music, the set, and that enormous Bingo ball machine are all fun to see. I like the trivia aspect of the game also. I hope GSN decides on a second run of this show.
My only criticism of the show is in the bonus round. When a player makes a match, show all 75 spaces to reveal where the $100K spaces were. That would help keep things honest.

It’s a shame because the show had potential (more so than Merv Griffin’s Crosswords IMHO).
I think the biggest problem was the home game because (1) Patrick kept reminding people to mark off their cards which got really redundant and annoying after a while (2) GSN gave more attention to the home game than they did this show. Actually this has been a problem for GSN in general period. They build up this website with all these games which really (IMHO) are crap. They should focus on what the network is named after which are game shows. I can go on all day with why these home games are usually annoying and designed to hide a games flaws so I’ll move on to mine next point.
Like Chaz said the bonus round was a little sketchy and they should have revealed all the spaces when the game was over. Other than that “Bingo America” was decent.

you’re right, they did confirm it is renewed, they’re just trying to save a couple of bucks, but really they could have jsut put up a disclaimer that says: “episode is a repeat, contest is currently unavailable” or something like that.

Here’s the issue with that. Bingo America barely has a game. I like the show, but I totally understand the actual game play is an afterthought compared to the home game, which is bringing them the money. Once you remove the home game, the weakness of the show really shines. Hell, reducing the amount of winners per show did that.
What will end up killing this show more than anything is GSN’s annoying practice of only ordering either 40 or 65 of a show, no matter how specific. Bingo America needs a long run in order to keep it fresh. Well, it needs a stronger front game, but a longer run than 40 shows run to death would help.
Edit: I totally forgot about this and should have specified before. Bingo America has been renewed, no question about it.

If Whammy is still one of the higher rated shows after 6-7 years of reruns, do we really I mean REALLY have to persistantly bang down their doors to get them to renew the show? The wait has gone on long enough.

I agree with BA needing more then 40-65 episodes. This is a game that, in order to be successful, needs to have a full season (in a syndication format). It’s fine if you take it off the air until the next season because this is a show that you can only show each episode just one time.
As for Whammy, why doesn’t GSN bring this show back? If the show’s still popular after 5 years of reruns, there out to be a red flag telling them it’s time to bring the show back. Of course, if Fremantle’s shopping the show around the world, it could (and this could be crazy) end up in syndication or another network. Come on, GSN. We’ve been waiting long enough. BRING BACK WHAMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!
