"Show Me The Money" was a flop for a number of reasons.

1) The dancing girls. Most guys wanting skin are gonna rent X-rated movies, not tune in a trivia game show. The models on "Deal Or No Deal" are appealing, but they don't overshadow the game. The producers clearly thought the dancing girls would be a huge draw.

2) William Shatner's too stiff. He's very funny in his self-mocking Priceline.com ads but that's about it. He's not as able to think on his feet as Howie Mandell, a comedian. Shatner moderated the game, but he wasn't very likable in the role of host. Again, the producers misunderstood what they thought would work.

3) Not enough "dangers". On "Deal Or No Deal", a contestant can mistakenly eliminate six briefcases with values ranging from $100,000 to $1 million. That's a lot of tension! The "Killer Card" on "Show Me The Money" was relatively boring with only one bad choice out of 13. The "keep away" premise makes better sense in bonus games (think of "The Joker's Wild" and their "Face The Devil" game) but as a main premise it's not exciting enough.

4) Producers thought "Show Me The Money" would become the next great catch phrase and conversation starter. Puh-leeze. Anyone see "Jerry Maguire"? THAT'S when the phrase was big.

5) No loved ones on stage. "Deal Or No Deal" takes on an emotional element when a player's friends and loved ones are brought on stage with him/her. With "Show Me The Money", you occasionally got a camera shot of the loved ones in the audience ... hardly the same immediacy, hardly the same drama.

Another poster said that "American Idol" was the sole reason this show got crushed. Hardly. "Idol" crushed anything in its path. "Show Me The Money" would have been a weak offering no matter when ABC ran it. That the producers and the network unloaded it after only seven episodes shows they miscalculated ... way.

Greg, you've confirmed you don't know what you're talking about. If GSN got Deal or No Deal, it would be a superb acquisition. At the present time, I'd say it's not going to GSN since it has helped CNBC's ratings over the past year or so. Then again, CNBC had a show with a 0.0 rating in recent memory--John McEnroe's talk show. Even if Deal had a 0.1 rating, it's an infinite percentage increase compared to 0.0! :-D

GSN started with the classics and should continue with the classics. Bring back TJW, TTD, or something decent like that! Move "Identity" to a network where it really doesn't matter (A&E).

Then again, how old was Shatner when he did the show? If GSN is such a 2nd-rate cable network, then why is Chuck Woolery (a supposed game show legend) still hosting Lingo on the very same network?

GSN should stick with the classics.

You are probably right about Forsyth. I still think my top choices now would either be Chuck Woolery, Bob Eubanks, or Ross Shafer. We might as well forget about our British friend.

If GSN acquired DoND, it would be a disaster. GSN should just stick with the classics.

What's wrong with Forsyth? Besides Forsyth possibly not wanting to fly overseas to host a retread show on a second-rate cable network and Forsyth being in his late 70s?

Greg, your list of potential hosts goes from plausible at the top all the way to flat out stupid at the bottom of the list.

I see this as a play for GSN to acquire another Endemol show...Deal or No Deal, maybe? Like heck it'll be Big Brother.

Well, I'm definitely gonna be watching this. You'll also notice that Julianne Hough, the pro who won season 4 of Dancing with the Stars (with Apolo Anton Ono), was one of the Million Dollar Dancers.

A few months ago our cable provider (Rogers) announced they would no longer offer GSN on basic cable and that it would be a digital cable exclusive. They would be replacing it with BBC World News (??!). However, on the "cut-off" day GSN moved from channel 43 to 58. and we're still getting it. Bizarrely, they do not publicize it in the package.

I just found out that GSN did not leave my cable system but instead it went to channel 171. Which means it will disappear from basic cable. Too bad.
