GSN Revamps September 2011 Schedule
Starting next week (August 29th) and through September at the very least, GSN will undergo some significant schedule changes. Gone are newer shows like Improv-A-Ganza, Love Triangle, and Lingo. They are going back to their roster of shows that work and that viewers still enjoy. Classic fans are getting an extra late night hour of shows as well.
The probably-cancelled GSN revival of 1 VS 100 shifts to 2:30PM ET. In a shocking change, Whammy! will air at 3:00PM ET daily. Whammy! is a very old GSN original that’s always held up well and got swallowed up by the change from Game Show Network to GSN. Chain Reaction will shift to 3:30PM ET. The next changes come at 6:00PM ET.
Lingo loses its other slots and just sticks at 6:00PM ET. It’s shocking because while it’s impossible to say it’s been an outright and constant hit, it’s done well. It’s had a few great weeks but it’s not done any better collectively than 1 VS 100 did. This is similar to what GSN did with Catch 21, and it flourished at an earlier slot so maybe it’ll work here also. If Lingo ends up getting another season hopefully they’ll fix the broken production of the show. The format for the most part is OK. Everything else is a mess but easily fixable. Baggage picks up a 6:30PM ET airing and Newlywed Game goes to 7:00PM ET replacing the cancelled Love Triangle.
8:00PM ET welcomes back an old favorite. Unexpectedly, Who Wants to be a Millionaire with Regis Philbin will take 8:00PM ET daily. That’s another show that’s done incredibly well. It’s been out of the lineup for a long time so glad to see it back. Deal or No Deal will take 9:00PM ET. That’s another that’s taken a bit of a break from exposure. Newlywed Game and Baggage air again at 11:00PM ET. Then at 2:00AM ET GSN will air a block of The $25,000 Pyramid and The $100,000 Pyramid. Can’t hurt to show classics late at night.
Weekends get a few small changes. On Saturdays Family Feud will air at 4:00PM ET and Chain Reaction moves to 7:30PM ET. On Sundays syndicated Deal or No Deal goes at 11:00AM ET, the NBC edition of Deal will air at 9:00PM ET, Catch 21 at 11:00PM ET, and Chain Reaction at 11:00PM. There’s a lot of shifts so check out the PDFs at the bottom of the page for all the updates.

You know, Alex, it’s about time that GSN got rid of Love Triangle because it wasn’t a good show anyway.
Finally GSN got rid of Love Triangle at 7:00, and Drew Carey’s Improv at 11:30PM. Those shows, thank god, are history.
For Lingo, an earlier time is a good change, but it concerns me because it’s a great hit. It definitely should be renewed for a second season, since Lingo (and The Newlywed Game) are the top two new(er) shows on GSN right now according to ratings. (Baggage in third, Catch 21 in fourth)
Also, it’s great some classics like Regis’ edition of Millionaire is on Daily. I, and thousands of other people will watch every night. Deal Or No Deal at 9:00 is an “OK” decision but better then back to back Newlywed Game. They should have put in Bob Saget’s 1 vs. 100.
For the afternoon, Chain Reaction and Whammy are both good ideas to put in at 3:00. GSN is probably thinking about making new versions of them. That’s my thought. 1vs. 100 with Carrie Ann Inaba is getting worn out. It’s been on for months at least once a day and all repeats.
Lastly, I wish they would show more of Catch 21. GSN administration is saying it will go into a fifth season, but we will see what happens.
I just wonder why they keep on trotting out Chain Reaction when it never did that great anyway.
I don’t know if you’ve been following the ratings, but CR tends to be a top 10 show for the network. Now, of course all the numbers are low. But you can’t say it never did that great.
If GSN could somehow bring back “Press Your Luck” and show all episodes including ones from 1983 and 1986 as well. That, too, has been gone forever. One more thing, when will GSN stop with the credit crunches that have annoyed me for years?
When they stop making crappy originals. In other words; never.
I have thought about it and GSN hasn’t made a really good original since the infamous switch over in 2004.
To heck with GSN, if I want great original game shows from a cable channel, I’m watching “The Hub”.
It’s definitely a step in the right direction, I’ll say that much. I would like to see more of the older primetime game shows return to the network though, such as Greed, Twenty-One and Winning Lines.
Well for Lingo, they should bring back the hopper! Push the button and out comes a ball. Or maybe the TV-14 rated Lingo episodes shall be dubbed “Lingo After Dark”
As for GSN, okay with schedule changes. But if I can change the schedue in 2012, GSN could somehow show:
9-10am: Match Game (Rayburn)
10am: Card Sharks (Perry)
10:30am: Family Feud (Dawson)
11am: $25,000 Pyramid (Clark)
11:30am: Jeopardy!
12am: Wheel of Fortune
12:30: Press Your Luck
1pm: Lingo Hour (Woolery)
2pm: Family Feud (Combs)
2:30pm: Card Sharks (Eubanks)
3pm: Tic Tac Dough
3:30pm: The Joker’s Wild
4pm: Chain Reaction (Lane)
4:30pm: Deal or No Deal (Syn)
5pm: Catch 21
5:30pm: 1 vs. 100 (Inaba)
6pm: Family Feud (Karn)
6:30pm: Family Feud (O’Hurley)
7pm: Newlywed Game (Eubanks)
7:30pm: Whammy!
GSN AFTER DARK
8pm: Lingo (Evengall)
8:30: Baggage
9pm: Match Game PM
9:30: Newlywed Game (Shepard)
10pm: Who Wants to Be A Millionaire? (Philbin)
11pm: Deal or No Deal (NBC)
Get the Reg Grundy Library (Scrabble and Sale of the Century!)
And maybe Bruce Forsyth’s Hot Streak?
Like the nice touch with Match Game PM in the prime time block.
$100K Pyramid will probably be the 1987-88 season again.
It is the 1987-88 season, starting with episode 399(Henry POlic and Ilene Graff)
How about bringing back Concentration from either Jack Narz era & Trebek era? And bring back Super Password (Convy era) and High Rollers (Trebek era)?
GSN never had Concentration and High Rollers.
Concentration is owned by NBC!!!! So we will never see it on GSN!!!!
I thought that Fremantle owned Concentration.
No, Fremantle (or more properly, Mark Goodson) only produced it. NBC owns the rights to it and has done so since the 1950s, when they took the show from Barry and Enright after the quiz show scandals.
High Rollers has only about a dozen half-hour episodes out of the entire Trebek run remaining. No way it gets rerun.
I dunno. Eye Guess and Winning Streak each have a grand total of one episode remaining, but they still got rerun.
Dynamics are totally different. You can pretty easily run a show that only has one episode as a one-off special. We’re talking a series here. The only way they could make HR work (and I really like that show, too) is to run the twelve or so surviving episodes in a marathon. They could also run it in an obscure weekend time slot, but I’m not sure how effective that would be.
There are still 185 episodes of Wink’s version out there.
Is Catch 21 still in production?
GSN corporate says it still has new episodes to air (I’m guessing it’s going into a fifth season) We’ll see…………………..
I said credit crunches need to stop. We’re missing credit rolls too much.
All these suggestions are great, but let’s get real. GSN will not stretch their budget much beyond what they currently spend. Shows like Wheel, $25,000 Pyramid (a different batch), PYL, and especially the Grundy shows probably haven’t even been thought about by the programming heads. Heck, they were still promoting Love Triangle and Improv-a-Ganza as recently as this past week!
As for the changes, they’re positive (Love Triangle getting the boot especially; that was the pits), but I doubt they’ll last very long. I’m sure they’ll simply develop new trash to take over, and we’ll be back to the status quo before you know it.
THey did air a WHeel marathon on Thanksgiving Friday 2010(with 2006-2007 episodes and a few from 2005-06), and they brought J! back to weekends(2005-06 season)
There is yet another thing that needs to go on GSN. It’s called “Whew!”. Jay Wolpert and/or Burt Sugarman needs to get their heads out of the clouds and license the rights to GSN, or just let GSN just buy the show period. I’m tired of waiting for this.
Burt Sugarman is busy with his newly retired wife right now.
Gameshows like “Winning Lines” and “Your Number Is Up” can never reair due to their phone contests. All of the editing they need to do would make these gameshows look terrible.
How about Bumper Stumpers and WIn, Lose or Draw? They were pretty good shows for the time being, and put Starcade on there, too.
Ok Millionaire with Regis Philbin has won me over. The rest is a big yawn. Geez.
What about “Press Your Luck”? I mean the entire run, 1983 and 1986 episodes included? And Credit Crunches.
These schedule changes are the best I’ve seen in months. My favorites are Whammy! back on weekdays and Who Wants to be a Millionaire back on weekdays at 8PM. This is a smart move by GSN!
I love the idea of “Whew!” coming on but wasn’t that only on for 1 season? Also, wish they’d bring back Win, Lose, or Draw; Pictionary; and Catch Phrase back onto tv. Blockbusters should come back as well (I love acronyms).
I really like about GSN’s revamped schedule, thanks for returning ”Millionaire” back to its normal 8:00pm ET/5:00pm PT time slot, I wish ”GSN” bring back the old classics like ”Shoot 4 the Stars”, 1985 USA revial of ”Jackpot!” and I want GSN to bring back ”The Joker’s Wild”(Barry/Peck/Cullen)to the network too.
Someone on Invision said the Davidson Pyramid is listed on their DirectTV listings. I don’t believe that.
“Password Plus” and “Super Password” and Let’s Make a Deal (70′s and 80′s). What about those?

GSN definately needs to get the Barry and Enright games back on reruns, when was the last time GSN showed reruns of TTD, TJW, Bullseye, Hot Potato, Play The Percentages, The Hollywood Connection, or any other Barry and Enright game show?
What about the game shows from TNN(Noe SpikeTV) like, Fandango, Top Card, and 10 Seconds? Those game shows haven’t been seen on GSN yet.
