GSN Renames “Honey, Please” to “Hidden Agenda”; Debuts January 14th

Hidden Agenda Host - Debi GutierrezWe’ve talked a bit about GSN’s hidden camera show Honey, Please which was casting in the New York City area a bit ago.  It’s been renamed Hidden Agenda and we’ve got some more information.  The game will debut January 14th at 8:30PM ET, replacing one of the ten million reruns of Family Feud.  Comedianne Debi Gutierrez, who honestly I’ve never heard of in my life, is the host.  She’s apparently a comic who specializes in relationship humor.

Hidden Agenda sees couples set each other up to do comedic (I’ll be the judge of that) challenges for cash and prizes.  Casting notices said the total pool of prizes is up around $12,000.  A group of recurring actors will come into the mix some where and set them up to do other things as well.  The show is from Embassy Row who did Newlywed Game and Power of 10 among others.  I’ve never really been a big fan of this kind of show at all really, and the relationship angle does absolutely nothing for me, but I’m obviously not in the target audience for it.  We’ll see how it does.  History has shown that when GSN goes away from the studio things go awry, so I’m not exactly bursting with optimism.

Game Show in my Head 2: "The Commitment"
Debi Gutierrez might be a nice fit for the show, but it doesn't really "fit" with GSN.

I think GSN is trying its best to "stay fresh" with shows, but they do not want to pay the piper. Maybe try and get episodes of Remote Control from Sony, or maybe Scrabble and Classic Concentation? I would love to see GSN Revive "Concentration" if they are looking to bring back a show.

  • Sony doesn't really have Remote Control, those are owned by MTV and Viacom. But yeah, this show sounds like utter crap. However, I hope this show has a shorter run than How Much Is Enough. It just sounds that bad, plus Game Show In My Head was horrible to start.

Yet another nail in GSN's coffin.
Countdown to total network cancellation (as of January 14, 2010): 11 months, 3 weeks, 3 days, 3 hours, 30 minutes and counting.

Technically speaking it's spelled "comedienne", although I doubt that even applies in the first place.

How will we live without that installment of Family Feud??????????????????

    ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, who besides me feels we need a support group to help with this disaster?

  • Xavier says:

The host looks a lot like Carnie Wilson. I guess the new requirement to host a GSN show is to look like her.

As for the show, No thanks. GSN should go back to making real Game Shows again. I really don't understand this company. They have hit game shows airing like Catch 21 and Newlywed Game, but they go to the reality shows.

  • DeVares says:

On paper, it looks like a disaster waiting to happen. But, as history teaches us, what we think is totally different from when the actual product comes out. Having said that, like I always do, I’m going to give this show a chance before I judge it. Who knows? It might actually be pretty good.

@ Jordan: Since when did Sony acquire the rights to Remote Control? Last I checked, Viacom owns the rights to that, as Robert Q. Spideyman explained. As for GSN reviving Concentration, don’t hold your breath on that one because NBC owns the rights to it and GSN have to pay a hefty amount to get it on the air. The only way it can be revived is either on NBC or in syndication.

    • J.C. says:

Actually I seem to remember hearing from a friend of mine that NBC's rights end at the end of this year (if they haven't already), so they may be up for grabs.

Let's be a bit fair. It's not the end of GSN and it is a game show. It's just not up my alley. But again, it's clearly not designed for my demographic or most of ours. Let's wait until we see. Stranger things have happened.

Great…had to say something…now Gutierrez is gonna get her own show lol

  • dh027 says:

At least it's not "Think Like a Cat".

Meow! Did you HAVE to say that?

I know Hidden Agenda sounds creepy & all, but like Alex says, let's wait & see what happens. Who knows? Maybe it'll be a hit. As far as I'm concerned. I've already got Genius pegged for that particular week anyways.

"Concentration" is owned by NBC, so I would think that it's not llikely that a new version would surface anytime soon, especially on GSN. "Scrabble" (on the other hand) could be more feisable, since it's now a Fremantle property. And, yes…I'd lobby for Woollery to host it again!).

  • LaJuan says:

Debi Gutierrez did some episodes of "Clean House" when Niecy Nash was filming the RENO 911 movie. She has her funny moments, and is a good fit for the format. Sadly, the show is a poor fit for GSN. *sigh*

  • Shelly says:

I think this show sounds like something new and fresh for GSN. It sounds like it could be funny and maybe turn more people back onto game shows. I'm looking forward to it!

Saw this show last night and it was actually pretty good. I like Debbie and thought the show was put together nice. I like hidden camera shows but it seems a little creepy to have someone put a bunch of cameras in your house. God knows I wouldn't want people to see me goofin' off with my wife or scratching my butt in the "privacy" of my own home. All in all, I say Kudos to GSN. I like it.
