GSN Radio Closes Shop Today, November 13th

Posted by Alex Davis On November - 13 - 2009

Bad news today.  GSN Radio is unfortunately saying goodbye tomorrow.  The rumor has been out for a while but apparently executives at the network thought giving people a 12 hour warning was appropriate, so there we go.   Well in respect they were hard working on their Muppet-hosted game.  Today is your last chance to play along with hosts Bob Goen and Marianne Curan and win some cash by listening to internet radio and dialing them.  Be sure to listen, it should be a fun show.  It’s always entertaining.  Such a shame to see it go.  Here’s the announcement we were given:

As most of you know by now our last show is tomorrow November 13. I wanted to give you guys a chance to send in some emails that we can read live on the air tomorrow with maybe a comment to Bob and Marianne and what your favorite part of the show was. Also wanted to let you know that we may be giving a couple of you guys a call tomorrow to come on air not to play a game but just to talk about some of the experiences that you have had on our show.

Thanks so much for all of your support over the past year and a half. It is because of you guys that show was a success please feel free to join our Facebook GSN Radio Show page and we will keep you guys updated on any new projects that we are working on or wherever this crazy industry leads us.

It is a huge shame it’s going away. We’ll be on the show this afternoon at around 3:45PM ET to say our goodbye. GSN Radio has been a nice little routine of my day. The show, the cast, and the crew have always been more than fantastic to us, and it’s not good to see them go.

  1. Nik Said,

Such a shame that it has to end. I've enjoyed it since its inception. I've won $100 a few times over the duration of it. I've even had a couple chances at $1000, but failed both times. I'm going to miss listening to it.

  3. Mark Said,

To be fair, who listens to Internet Radio anyway? It's not exactly a thriving market.

  5. Robert Said,

I loved GSN Radio, BTW GSN can't put their radio on FM or AM although AM would be ok.

True, but a little common courtesy from the execs at GSN could have make their exit a little less negative in terms of the press they're recieving.

  9. Nick Said,

I didn't get a chance to call in, and it's the only chance I had to win money from GSN since I don't have it on BrightHouse in my Central Florida area for some strange reason.

  11. insaneben Said,

    Ye gods.
At least the higher-ups could've given the public at least a week's notice before GSN Radio went down (to be fair, I'm sure the GSN Radio staff was given notice at least somewhat ahead of time).

If this isn't a sign that GSN is further deviating from its' core audience (and thus further driving itself into the ground), I'm not sure what is (aside from all those upcoming pilots that probably should've been left on the drawing board).

    In Memory of GSN
    1994-2004 (as Game Show Network)
    2004-2010? (as GSN)

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Wait until you guys see the new weekend schedule starting on November 28th.
NO CLASSICS AT ALL! I'm sure Alex will be posting it soon.

  14. Mr. quiz Said,

GSN Radio was a decent enough concept. It should've found a way to market itself (possibly as a featurette) on broadcast radio. I feel it could've been done.

I almost never watch GSN anymore…I consider myself a "core" viewer; someone who realy liked the shows in B&W, as well as a wider variety of shows from the Bob Stewart, & Barry & Enright, as well as Goodson-Todman libraries. If only they could have gotten the Heatter-Quigley library…

  18. DeVares Said,

So sad to see it go. But you can’t blame GSN for trying a concept that’s far beyond talk or sports radio. GSN is, basically, killing itself by 1) not renewing the Goodson-Todman library, 2) ” ” the Barry & Enright library, and 3) cancel B&W Overnight. In conclusion, GSN needs to get back to the basics.

My Only Comment on “Instant Recall”

Was it just me or was Instant Recall pretty tough?  If that’s what GSN thinks a tongue-in-cheek retro-style game show is, no wonder they are having so many problems.  It looks like a bad cable access show.  I feel bad…
