GSN Plans Two Marathons for Thanksgiving

When you’re all doped up on tryptophan on Thanksgiving, or you’re just sick of your family, why not tune into GSN for two marathons of great shows.  First off, on November 27th, save yourself the trouble of fighting with your family by tuning into a marathon of Family Feud hosted by the great John O’Hurley.  This will run from 9AM ET to 6PM ET and who knows what season it is right now.

Friday, November 28th, brings an interesting marathon.  On Black Friday watch people try to earn some Christmas shopping money on Who Wants to be a Millionaire? also from 9AM ET to 6PM ET.  It’s hosted by Regis Philbin which stuns me a bit.  I would have figured, since they just got new syndicated episodes of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? hosted by Meredith Vieira, they would have been doing a marathon of that.  Looks like they are going with the safety, though, since Regis has been a ratings hit for GSN for quite some time.  However, if Meredith Vieira’s edition does well, I wouldn’t be completely shocked to see it either switched or shared.

A few other points of interesting: GSN will be rerunning Play It Back, the specials looking back at the game shows of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, on November 29th, from 3PM ET to 6PM ET.  After that the schedule returns to normal.

    No Feast of Favorites :(

I’d like to know the joker who thought anyone would want to watch ABC Millionaire all day. Really sucks that there won’t be a Feast of Favorites this year.

Hopefully Christmas will be better. We need at least one good Classic marathon a year GSN. Give it to us.

Xavier: They already gave us two good classic marathons, the Play It Back’s for 70′s and 80′s. I agree, though, that this is lame.

I think some years they make a real attempt to bring in viewers for Thanksgiving and other years they just go with a loss leader, figuring the day’s going to be wasted. This would be the latter.

I can see why GSN does this, though. I won’t be watching game shows on Thanksgiving. In fact, the house I’m going to doesn’t currently get GSN (same with Christmas.) Maybe I, and other game show fanatics, would watch a feast of favorites, but regular people would probably rather watch FF or WWTBAM. Or something else, such as football or just another channel, if they were watching TV at all.

It sucks they don’t do the Feast of Favorites this year. I remember back in the day howthey showed Treasure Hunt, Joker’s Wild, and MAD of the old stuff. Now every year I see the same show ALL…….. DAY…………. LONG…….. I’m always at my uncle’s house, and so I would watch the Feast of Favorites on the TV during the day then at like 3 I’d go to my uncle’s house. Now I wake up, watch cartoons (yes, a 19 year old watching cartoons and game shows. Haha),(and sadly not now cause I can’t stand SpongeBob or Fairly Oddparents), then go to my uncle’s and go home. Wrestling is on thought, but we don’t leave till late and wrestling will probably end. So the whole day I go MAD!

Well, it’s tough for a cable network to compete with football, another Brad Lachman-produced parade, and “Miracle on 34th Street”.

Hopefully for Christmas GSN can show some classic game shows like Jokers Wild and 70′s Pyramid for example. Tired of the same old Family Feud and Millionaire marathons. Please GSN, lets get it right for Christmas!
