GSN Plans More Classic Marathons on New Years
New PDFs are updated on the sidebar, but we have some upcoming marathons which you may look forward to. I know I’ll be looking forward to December 31st. If you’re going to be in on New Year’s Eve, check out a The $100,000 Pyramid marathon from 9:00AM ET to 6:00PM ET. No specific episode information is given yet, but I’d guess it would be some $100,000 wins. It would be really nice to see this show on the regular lineup some time; it’s been a while, hasn’t it?
And after you wake up from that hangover on January 1st, kick in 2009 with a Let’s Make A Deal marathon from 9:00AM ET to 3:00PM ET. Again, no word on what episodes just yet. Following that will be the three Play It Back specials showcasing great game shows from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. It’s amazing that we may be having a special on the game shows of 00s, isn’t it?
A few other minor notes. Twenty-One is off of Saturdays at 1:00AM ET starting January 3rd. Replacing it is Dog Eat Dog. I love Dog Eat Dog; but I just don’t see how it’s still so popular. It’s been rerun so much. If it’s that popular, I don’t see why a weekly revival wouldn’t come out? The $25,000 top prize isn’t more than any of their other shows gives away in a week. Also on January 3rd at 2:00AM ET is To Tell The Truth (O’Hurley) replacing High Stakes Poker.

And commence complaining that GSN will show the “rerun abused” episodes again.
To Chad:
They have a right to complain.
Actually, it wouldn’t surprise me if they showed some different episodes this time. I think they actually may have lost the rights to the 1986-87 season that they had been rerun abusing. Perhaps this will even be a precursor to the show returning to the schedule with a different season.
It’s been so long, I wouldn’t even care if it’s the same season. I just hope it’s not a stretch of episodes with nothing to stand out. In 2002, they did a marathon of tournaments. Complete tournaments, start to finish. Pretty cool, and I wish I’d copied the tape before I traded it.
>>If it’s that popular, I don’t see why a weekly revival wouldn’t come out
If it’s cheaper to air reruns that will probably garner similar ratings, why bother?
Last year’s “The $100,000 Pyramid” marathon was a bunch of “regular” episodes…if I’m not mistaken. So, they’ve done the regular thing and the tournament thing. My vote? (and those that read the previous post can see this coming) “The $20,000 Pyramid”. But, even if they show “The $25,000 Pyramid”, I’d be cool with that. But, did you ever notice that (since the earlier part of the decade) every time they do a “Pyramid” marathon, it’s ALWAYS “The $100,000 Pyramid”? While it’s better than JD’s version or Donny’s version, I’d like to see some of the others.
I believe last year’s Pyramid marathon featured no tournament games at all…just way too much Henry Polic II. And not enough Adrienne Barbeau! There’s never enough Adrienne Barbeau.
I think they should after the $100,000 Pyramid then have last episodes of gameshows from 5:00 P.M.- Midnight CST
5:00 P.M.- Blockbusters- Bill Cullen
5:30 P.M.- Password Plus- Tom Kennedy
6:00 P.M.- $25,000 Pyrmaid- Dick Clark
6:30 P.M.- Family Feud- Richard Dawson
7:00 P.M.- Card Sharks- Jim Perry
7:30 P.M.- Match Game 90- Ross Schafer
8:00 P.M. – Body Language- Tom Kennedy
8:30 P.M.- Password- Allen Luddin
9:00 P.M.- Tic Tac Dough- Wink Martindale ( before Jim Caldwell took over)
9:30 P.M.- Card Sharks- Bob Eubanks
10:00 P.M.- Super Password- Bert Convy
10:30 P.M.- Joker’s Wild- Bill Cullen
11:00 P.M.- Press Your Luck- Peter Tomarken
11:30 P.M.- $100,000 Pyrmaid- Dick Clark
I just think that would be a good thing to have after the $100,000 Pyrmaid marathon
GSN did that in 1999 when the late Charles Nelson Reilly hosted the “Y2Play” marathon. Sadly, I don’t think GSN would show the last episodes of “The Joker’s Wild”, Dick Clark’s version of “The $100,000 Pyramid”, and Wink’s last episode of “Tic Tac Dough”, due to Sony’s leasing issues. Also, GSN doesn’t have the rights to the 1986 episodes of “Press Your Luck” – I don’t know if it was shown when USA had the show, but the 1983 and ’86 episodes of the show WERE shown on the network at different times.
I’m pretty sure USA had the rights to the last episode, they had everything up through Sept ,I know *I have the tapes to prove*, so there’s no reason why they wouldn’t.
Happy to see Pyramid get some airtime on GSN. Let’s hope, no matter which version, even if it’s some of the slightly more rerun abused, it becomes a permanent fixture on the schedule again. I’d personally like to the see the $25k’s myself, as that was the version I grew up with more than $100k…
When on earth is GSN ever going to get their act together in putting a real classic “Pyramid” marathon that have episodes from the other different versions that have in their vaults? I mean, the CBS $10,000, ABC $20,000 (a real must see) and the CBS $25,000 versions that I am referring to.
Certainly that would made such a marathon as a true acknowledgement of its 35th Anniversary of the show and its history. If this marathon contains solely episodes from the same burnt-out, rerun abused 1986-87 season, then I am taking a pass on this and ignoring it.
At least the Play It Back: 80′s themed marathon with the four episodes of the CBS $25,000 version was a much better relief in terms of programming scheduling and quite interesting to watch. Then again, GSN just doesn’t get it!
If they didn’t “Get it”, they would not be giving us any Clark Pyramid.
They’ve done a Pyramid marathon in previous years.
Part of the issue is that most of the early ones (most of the $10k era, for instance) simply do not exist. I would wonder if those episodes of $20k that do exist are in a usable form.
Personally, I’d be happy with $25k and $100k just returning to the lineup.
But then again, I want Scrabble, and Sale, and I want a pony for Christmas. We’ll see if I get any of these
This sounds a lot like last year’s New Year’s Eve/Day marathon. I’m guessing GSN couldn’t simply have devised a bunch of holiday-themed episodes of various game shows and called it a marathon?
