GSN Picks Up “Million Dollar Password”, Adds Classic “Card Sharks”

So GSN may suck at originals these days, but they do really well with the acquisitions.  We’ve got schedules updated for the week of March 22nd and March 29th.  Not much happens the week of the 22nd, but the 29th has some interesting changes.  Lots of daytime changes starting, of all days, April 1st.  It’s like some sort of joke, but it’s the same on April 2nd.  April Fools?  We were just kidding to be crappy for a few months?

9:00AM ET: Dawson Family Feud (replaces Match Game)
9:30AM ET: Eubanks Card Sharks (replaces Match Game PM)
10:00AM ET: Perry Card Sharks (replaces Family Feud)
10:30AM ET: The $25,000 Pyramid (same)
11:00AM ET: The $100,000 Pyramid (replaces Hollywood Squares)
11:30AM ET: Match Game (replaces Jeopardy!)

It stays the same post-noon.  Weekends are essentially the same (you can check specific changes by clicking the above links.  GSN has acquired a new show, though.  GSN has bought the rights to the short-lived CBS game show
Million Dollar Password
.  It will begin airing Saturday, April 3rd, and air each Saturday at 6:00PM ET and 1:00AM ET.  It’ll air only on Saturdays for now, but that will change depending on the ratings obviously.  Sundays still have the abundance of poker.

So there we go.  Lots of changes and some good acquisitions by the network.  And on the plus side Unstapled gets cut to only once a week so that nightmare is behind us soon.

from what I saw on the schedule Card Sharks (both Perry's version & Eubanks' version) replaces both Family Feud & Password at the 3:00 am-4:00 am time slot.

About time they put something classic and different on the schedule (well… different from what the past YEAR has been).

I look forward to one last chance to catch Card Sharks with Perry on the weekday schedule while in an area that has it on basic service. Eubanks will be good too, though if there was one show with Eubanks I wished was on the schedule – it would be classic Newlywed Game episodes.

What I mean is……. GSN is probably trading CBS Password in order to get Card Sharks. That's my guess.

Why didn't GSN, buy the rights to ABC's Duel? They had at least three big winners (2 $500K, 1 $1.8 mil.) and had slightly more episodes than MDP.

how about shopping era wheel, those eps havent been seen in almost a decade, (not the playing for cash from 87-89 that have been played to the grave either)

I think it's a heck of a lot better. It's actually funny, compared to the cringe-worthy Marshall episodes and moves at a better clip than the overgimmicky Davidson version.

  • Aw man, Jeopardy is totally gone –that show is like crack for me!

It depends on what you were raised on – I lived through both Peter Marshall and John Davidson's versions of the show, and they were a hellva lot better than the Bergeron version up to 2002 – at least when Henry Winkler came in in 2002, he tried to make the show better, but ratings had already taken a toll on the show, and therefore, it only lasted 2 more years. I'd rather see Paul Lynde and Jim J. Bullock than Triumph the insult dog any day!

Let's get the boo's out of the way: Boo for no more classic PW ($1M wasn't bad, but there's nothing like Allen/Tom/Bill/Bert, plus less contestants who throw up the white flag when something that doesn't have an opposite appears…I'd LOVE to see a typical $1M PW contestant on Password Plus, you know why ;-)) And it's that time again. Time for Ray Combs fans to be butthurt again. By now, I think we can all say that we're sure his version of the Feud will be back eventually.

Now…Yay for Card Sharks returning. Maybe not all of the Fremantle holdings have been thrown into the abyss after all. I have a love-hate relationship with $1MPW, as you see above, but there's worse shows that could live on in reruns. So I guess that's a positive. Plus you see Betty White showing she's still got it (and this HAD to be acquired partially because of the new wave of Bettymania. That and Fremantle seems to have GSN as a dumping ground for noughties reruns…just keep Temptation, CS2001, and MG98 away. Far, far away) I just hope Allen and the gang return too! CS coming back means that'll possibly be true…or as Tom Kennedy said, "You know the show's gonna be back someday!"

And speaking of the Fremantle library, get us some new sets, stat, Mill Creek!!!!!!

too bad they couldn't have just waited to let '60s night-time Password simply finish out its run before they switched it with Card Sharks. I was hoping to see those 16 PRIME-TIME color episodes (which haven't been rerun on GSN in ages, from what I understand).

Jeopardy was a victim of rerun abuse, they continually ran the 2005-06 season.

Kudos for GSN resuming Card Sharks back in their lineup. It's fortunate that NBC didn't destroy the studio masters of the 1978-81 run of Card Sharks, like they did with virtually every other videotaped program prior to 1983 when NBC began archiving and preserving their media material. I sure wish that GSN would deliver more of the classics, the real game shows with the legendary hosts, and less of the modern crapola. Unfortunately, irritating tripe like Deal Or No Deal has good ratings on GSN. But is it necessary to air the hell out of Deal Or No Deal? Way too many episodes a day broadcasted. Eventually, I hope, people will tire of this "reality" themed game. As for CBS's Million Dollar Password, why bother re-running this extremely short lived show? It was by far the least captivating version of Password ever. Regis is a good host, but the game play? The whole show was nothing but the lightning round. As for the celebrity guests, Betty White is always a gem, but the other (few) celebrity guests were positively banal. Password with Allen Luden was tops. Allen was a phenomenal host, as well as Bill Cullen and Tom Kennedy, with fantastic celebrity guest stars. Sadly only three known episodes of the early 70's ABC version exist. Fortunately the 1979-82 NBC version is all intact including the 1984-89 version with the legendary Bert Convey. Those, in my book, are the only versions of Password that have merit. Now if GSN would resume re-running those versions of Password, that'd be progress. Lastly, GSN needs to seriously abstain from programming that seriously infects television nowadays, and that is fake reality shows. That GSN original: Carnie Wilson Unstapled is seriously inane. What is a fake reality show like Carnie's doing on a game show channel? Junk like that belongs on TLC or the ever dumbing down Discovery Channel. GSN, please consider bringing back MORE of the classics. I'd love to see those early Price is Right's with Bill Cullen and 70's and 80's versions with Bob Barker, Dennis James and Tom Kennedy. How about bringing back Black And White Overnight, again? What's My Line? Beat The Clock, The Name's the Same, To Tell The Truth, etc. I'm just hoping that GSN doesn't fall into deep ruins like TV Land did by completely abandoning a major demographic of their audience by only focusing on inferior modern day rubbish.

I am like a game show nut and I am only 12 years old. GSN is making good progress with bringing back Card Sharks. I used to watch GSN all the time before the stupid DTV cable switch. My mom and I don’t care about all the extra channels, but GSN was the only channel we lost. I have watched many of the older game shows on GSN and on online videos. I went to my Grandma’s house yesterday and I was able to catch two episodes of Card Sharks. I like the game shows that have a little thinking in them. Jeopardy is my favorite game show, but Card Sharks was a great game show too. I don’t like the game shows like Deal or No Deal and Let’s Make a Deal where even a mindless idiot with an I.Q. of negative 65 can win a million dollars.
