GSN Picks Up Former CBS Game Show “Power of 10″
This one came out of no where. GSN has acquired the rights to the former CBS game show Power of 10. The Drew Carey hosted game show asked people to answer survey questions within a set range in order to win up to $10,000,000. No one won the top prize during the series, but one person did win the million dollar level. The series debuted in 2007 and lasted sixteen aired episodes. Two episode were left unaired and we may be able to see them now. Power of 10 will begin airing this coming Monday, March 28th, at 7:00PM ET. It replaces Deal or No Deal.
We’re going to falsely assume that the pickup is due to the massive critical and commercial success of our original show PinPoint. Realistically, this is probably because of Drew Carey’s upcoming GSN show Improv-A-Ganza. Puts a new game show on the air and brings the Drew Carey connection full circle. The Drew Carey Improv-A-Ganza will air at 8:00PM ET. I was a fan of the show so I’m pretty excited to see it. Anyone else?

Good move! I hope we get to see the two unaired episodes! It would be nice to see a major next pick this show up and revive it, but I want it to stay in the money format that it is now!
Don’t see them doing $10 Million if it’s GSN, but could actually see it being $1 Million with the final questions being very difficult in the first place and very few if any would risk it with $100,000 being a good GSN large prize (2nd highest for the show itself) and that being difficult itself to obtain.
As the piece said, these are re-airings of the original CBS episodes, much like they did with Million Dollar Password some time back…
I hope they let Drew host. GSN’s made awful hosting changes lately.
It’s not a revival. It’s the original episodes that were picked up for reruns.
Yeah, I figured. There’s a chance that they could, though.
Totally agree, I am a game show nut and I believe the host can make or break a good show. Lately good shows have gone bad. We need hosts who arent trying so hard, but can be confident with what they are doing. Seems like they are not themselves, but trying to fit a part.
So wait, I’m slightly confused. The previous series was picked up for airing on GSN? Or are they creating a new version?
They’ve picked up the original series. Looks like we might see those two unaired episodes soon.
With just 16 (or maybe 18) episodes, this will repeat itself awfully quickly, won’t it?
Not necessarily. They’ll run it at that timeslot for three weeks before Love Triangle makes it’s ill-gotten debut. So, we might not see those two unaired episodes, unless GSN plans on putting it on the weekends where it wouldn’t be that much of a burnout.
Anyone know how I can get my hands on copies of those unaired episodes! I think I’m in one of them!
Great! I just hope this isn’t a repeat of Show Me the Money. Game show fans hoped to see the two unaired episodes of that series, but GSN got rid of it from their schedule VERY quickly.
I don’t see Power of 10 being axed as fast. I think part of the reason Show Me the Money was dropped is because it was a bad show. PO10 was way better.
Sometimes I think I’m the only one who enjoyed Show Me the Money–it was just really fun to watch.
I just don’t get the fascination of PO10, I feel it was a POS. An educated guessing game with lame questions and drawing it out to an hour for no reason at all.
These are reruns from 2007-08, not new episodes. Bob Guiney mentioned it during GSn Live today. Weakest Link(NBC) and Match Game 1979, the 9/11-9/14/2001 episodes of J!, and probably some other network game show episodes preempted for various reasons, were seen for the first time on GSN.
“It replaces Deal or No Deal.”
THANK YOU. I really hope this is GSN’s next attempt at a revival. I could see this being a big winner for them. 1 vs. 100 wasn’t really meant for a tiny cable budget, but i could definitely see Power of 10 being entertaining with a top prize around $100,000. If I remember right, a $10,000 win was just as exciting on that show as a $1,000,000 win.
Honestly, with how difficult it was to even get the million, I could see them leaving the money chain intact. Only 1 person even won the million, and maybe 2-4 people won $100,000 and kept it. The rest won $10,000 or less. Certainly that’s even within GSN’s budget, if they did revive it…
I’m not that enthused for a remake of Power of 10, because I’m expecting a similar fate to 1 vs. 100: long games, irritating contestants and low payouts.
To quote Johnny Test, “Whoa, didn’t see that coming.”
I always wondered why GSN didn’t pick up Power of 10. Maybe they read my thread comment on the GSN forums and decided it was a good idea, what with Drew’s new show coming into the mix.
But seriously…no promotion for the show on GSN and only a 3-day notice till it airs on the network in a primetime time slot?
Is it just me or does anyone find it interesting that most of the time GSN prepares to air a good game show, there’s little or no promotion associated with it, but when they prepare to air a low-budget GSN-created program, we see commercials for it every 5-10 minutes?
I mean, the same thing happened with Million Dollar Password. Even Bob Saget’s 1 VS 100 wasn’t promoted in commercials that often. Yet the Newlywed Game, Baggage, Love Triangle and Improv-a-Ganza are shown over and over again during commercial breaks.
The only good game show I’ve seen GSN promote during commercials on an equal basis to the above 4 GSN originals I mentioned, has been Deal or No Deal. But Deal or No Deal has been rerun so many times since it debuted on GSN in summer 2009 that everyone is tired of seeing it already.
Why couldn’t GSN show commercials of Power of 10 and Million Dollar Password 2 to 3 weeks in advance of them airing on the network, like they do with their own original shows? That would give viewers the opportunity to set time aside to watch these programs, or PVR them, instead of not being told about them and randomly one day checking out the TV Guide to see “Power of 10″ listed on GSN’s channel schedule for that night.
We probably didn’t need that much Deal Or No Deal anyway but I knew that Power of 10 would be
on GSN somehow; I just knew.
Finally. I’ve been wanting to see this show for ages.
all i know is that even through this game is not being revived as much as being rebroadcasted i could see this being a bonus round on Pointless (UK) if it were brought over and aired here in the US as deal or no deal is for miljoenenjacht in the Netherlands. as for the improv show i think they are putting all of their eggs in one basket & i hope they don’t do the same with these rebroadcastings of Power of 10 or any of their other shows as all i know is that based on all these ads they probably won’t see too many people (as people might get tired of the repetitive commercials as that’s what happened to me at least).
Looks like, according to the TV listings at TitanTV, there will be a ten episode marathon on GSN on Sunday, April 10th from 12:00-10:00p. So they may not be giving big promotion to it airing primetime, but they will be doing something with the show to help give it more exposure.
we watch gsn all the time but drew careys comments on the american flag were disgusting on power of 10
