Pretty exciting and fun news from the GSN camp today which is much better than a cat game show. GSN Live, the network’s daily live talk/interactive show during the commercials of some of your favorite classics, will be expanding to six hours starting on the week of July 28th. The show, hosted by Fred Roggin and Heidi Bohay, currently airs from noon to 3:00PM ET; it will extend to 6:00PM ET, cutting off before Russian Roulette. The show’s been growing in popularity since it started and has seen many special guests like Wink Martindale, Rip Taylor, Tom Kennedy, and many more.
From my view, GSN Live has drastically improved. The first few weeks were a bit rough as they were trying to figure out the style. However, I’ve seen a few recent editions and it’s really a lot more enjoyable and a lot of fun to watch. My only major complaint has been they always rush through the guests because of the time restaints. I always figured cutting out one of the shows to make it a five show/three hour block would have worked, but expanding to six hours allows them for more time. And hey, not only that, that’s three more chances for viewers at home to win prizes which are a hell of a lot nicer than anything on Playmania ever offered, and nicer than a lot of what current GSN originals give out too.

This could work out really well. As long as we’re throwing suggestions around, here’s what I’d like to see:
* More classic game shows (stuff we’ve never seen before)
* More interviews with game show hosts
* More mini-games for bigger prizes
* Maybe some cash prizes (to liven things up)
* A bonus round (At the end of the show, the names of that show’s contestants are placed in a fishbowl. The guest draws a name out of the bowl. That person is called, and has a chance to answer 5 questions about that day’s shows. Each correct answer is worth $500 cash, and all 5 correct answers will win the contestant a prize package [ranging from $5K to $10K].)
* Replace the “Steal These Wheels” monthly contest with the “GSN Live Jackpot” (a growing prize package a la the “Gambit Galaxy”; prizes not won in the mini-games go into the jackpot)
What do you think?

agreed, hopefully, they’ll use the time for more interaction with the guests, both Fred and Heidi said that on the interview they did with ww.tvgameshows.net that their biggest issue was the guest would start talking about a great story and they’d have to cut them off because time was up. and to be honest, currently the guests don’t really get to talk all that much and there’s little reason for anyone interested, to watch it. they missed out big with Bill Rafferty’s show, He was HILARIOUS! but they couldn’t let him go on very long, that could have been a classic.

Well, I, for one, would like to get the opportunity to actually watch it. Being at work for lunch shifts, and barely getting home in time to see the end of Password+ some days, I don’t get to see much of GSN Live. What I have seen, though, looks good, and I would like the opportunity to watch a few hours. I agree that more time for interviews is a good thing. I can understand why they do not cut a show to add more time for GSN Live and interviews. That way their programming still starts on the half-hour. I think that they should actually cut a show, and air one half hour straight of GSN Live on Fridays to accommodate the interview portion. What do y’all think of that idea?

If they were smart, they’d label the block “GSN Live” as opposed to keeping the listings as the individual shows. That way, they have the freedom to cut a show, or throw a one-hour “Feud” in, or something like that, without disrupting the listings. Personally, I have not been able to watch “GSN Live” that much, because Roggin and Bohay give me a headache. However, I would be more likely to watch if, say, the interviews were advertised throughout the day, instead of only during the block. For instance, if I’m watching “Russian Roulette,” how hard would it be for them to make a drop-in saying, “Fred and Heidi here from GSN Live - be sure to watch Friday as we talk to Dating Game host Jim Lange!” instead of the endless promos for “Millionaire.”
Sorry, that turned into an off-topic vent.

According to tvgameshows.net the extra three hours will have a different co-host team.

According to Brendy at the GSN message boards, GSN Live isn’t expanding until “later this year”, and not July 28th
