GSN Asks What Viewers Want in New Survey

If you’ve got some free time I strongly urge you to take this survey GSN recently launched that asks such questions as what type of programming you want to see on GAME SHOW NETWORK and if you consider stuff like Carnie Wilson’s reality show to be a game show.  What this survey is actually saying is, “We have no clue what our viewers want to see.”

They're suggesting talent and reality shows. That's what billycw said in a GSN Buzz post:

"took the survey….many camoflagued questions that probably aren't worth anything to GSN. Emphasis is on reality and online. Just like a National Board, certain questions are just there for effect. Reality and talent show is aim here."

So, no more of the old game shows that we want to sit down and see?

  • insaneben says:

    *Sigh.*
Just another generic go-nowhere survey that will probably prove to be meaningless.

  • Otm_Shank says:

Not only that, there was little in terms of PROGRAMMING, but more geared for advertisers and online/mobile games.

When it did ask specifically what you watch, most were reality/talent/wish-fulfillment style — the game show titles that they asked about were Match Game and Hollywood Squares (as well as Jeopardy and Wheel, but those are current as well as classic.)

What I was expecting was a least one question asking about airing more original game show programming, which I did not see.

Wait…So, they don't want true responses from people? They just want a certain amount of people who like Game Shows and the rest of them to be the type of people they're looking for? That's sad…very sad.

  • Ryan_Z says:

"Thank you for your responses, however we have filled our quota for respondents such as yourself. Thanks again!"

I got that about 20% of the way through. >_>

Oddly, I got through the whole survey without any problems. It was definitely pro-game show, with a slight liking for one reality show.

Surveys like these exist all over the place. 99 times out of 100, the surveys boil down to what you like to purchase, and what you plan on purchasing down the road. If they get enough surveys filled, they'll stop accepting them.

A survey won't determine the future direction of GSN — the ratings will.

Which begs the question: what good is a survey when you know you're gonna keep doing what you've been doing? Sorry, GSN, but I'll pass.

  • Darryl Heine says:

Will GSN return all classics like Card Sharks and WML and PYL and LMAD by late Spring/Summer 2010 if the survey is a success?

  • Evan says:

I remember watching gsn like 5 years ago when it had great shows like friend or foe, cram, russian roulette, whammy(press your luck) and lingo. I even enjoyed extreme dodgeball haha, and the repeats of greed, and other great old shows. Then my interest just died, the show took a plunge for the worst. I seriously used to watch Gsn like 24/7 it was the only channel i would watch, and i would go online everyday and play along it was so great. Then i just lost interest after they got rid of all the great shows they showed. I really hope one day they go back to wat it used to be

So at this point it makes you wonder what are the chances Extreme Makeover Home Edition, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, etc making it to GSN? Last time I remember, Don't Forget the Lyrics was mentioned so I know this was changed.

This survey makes me wonder if there's another makeover coming soon.

Would be one of the biggest mistakes for GSN to pick-up EM:HE.

    it's not a game show. It's reality.
It's a show that already can be found on TV Land [bad fit there, too] and CMT [again].

It should be on a network like DIY or HGTV…
So many networks out there have changed from how the station used to be. [le sigh]

  • Richard says:

I would have loved a last question asking for our specific comments.

I would have asked for more classics, or a better mix.

  • Richard says:

Or they're looking for a specific target audience with this survey.
Me thinks – they really want to know about the 18-34 group.
I'm that group and got through the whole survey.

A lot of these programming decisions lately has been trying to get this lucrative market, and I think this is just another example of how they really want to target this market on GSN.

Please get Carnie Wilson and hidden agenda off the air. These shows suck! I want to see more of LIngo, Chain Reaction, Catch 21, and Whammy than just a few times a week. I would like to see the Weakiest Link, Greed, Cardsharks, or Scarable on this network. I hate Carnie Wilson because all see does is cry that she is fat or she misses drinking. Give me a break. SHut this woman up and get her off the air. She is ANNOYING and I CAN'T stand her.

  • Helen says:

Who ever told you that the Carnie Wilson and Hidden Agenda shows were game shows ?? You have really screwed things up by taking Greed, Scrabble, and other game shows like that off the air– Put those back on the air and kick Carnie Wilson in the butt and get rid of her and that Agenda thing and you will have a real game show network– I like to watch games, not Carnie Wilson sitting around bawling all the time– That stuff belongs on a soap opra channel— If she would leave the booze alone, she wouldn’t be fat, then she wouldn’t have anything to bawl about !! !! GET RID OF THESE TWO SHOWS, AND I’LL START WATCHING GSN AGAIN– PUT GREED BACK ON THE AIR IN THEIR PLACE !!

    • Ryan says:

      Err…Scrabble was never on GSN.

Plus, Hidden Agenda is a game show…not your traditional one, granted, but its still has contestants doing stuff to win cash.

  • @jhshifris says:

That's right, Helen. Put Carnie Wilson on SoapNet instead and who made her do The Newlywed Game anyway?

Believe me, she's not a game show host.
