Posted by Alex Davis as GSN, How Much is Enough?
A while ago GSN was casting for their new original show How Much is Enough?. They have their contestants, who have been applying online or in person for the last two months. They also have their host: Corbin Bernsen.
This might be one of GSN’s more high profile hosts in quite some time; probably since Chuck Woolery. He’s been on the hit TV show L.A. Law, the major movie Major League, and currently can be seen on USA’s Psych. Plus he was on my personal favorite reality show which is The Mole. Corbin was on both celebrity seasons of it. He’s become very involved in the game show industry recently; specifically GSN. Corbin had appearances on I’ve Got A Secret as well as produced a pilot called Carry Your Weight back in January of this year.
Good news about the format! It’s not a word game! It may have no trivia or real skill, but a non-word game puts a smile on my face. Quite simply, through different rounds, a giant electronic money clock will count up from $0 or a predetermined dollar value. Four players have to secretly lock in when they want the clock to stop and take whatever money is present. There is some strategy and psychology going on here, as you have to convince your opponent to play on too long, as there should be some point where you can’t take any money into the next round.
The final two contestant’s scores are combined for the end, and that’s the max the money clock can go to. It starts at a low value and continues to count up. The first player to buzz in wins whatever is on the clock. So, in short, you have to convince your opponent not to buzz in long enough so that you can take home more money. Yeah, there’s no real knowledge or skill here, but I’m still very interested. Looks like a very psychologically based game that’s going to be suspenseful and probably funny. Can’t wait to see how this turns out. GSN starts taping on Tuesday. For tickets, click here.

I don’t like the sounds of it. To me it sounds either like deal or no deal without the cases or banker or Fox’s bomb from a few years ago: Unanimous. based on the description just about evryone is gonna try to go for a bijillion dollars.
I like though how they finally got a big name as a host. That might be enough to get more viewers.

I had thought about an idea like this a while back, but I had deided that it woud be as boring as all get out. Friend or Foe was entertaining because there was a Q&A aspect to it. The idea that someone who’s willing to take less money just wins in the final is sort of… blase in my opinion. Of course, having the money total up over a few rounds helps out the main game in my book.

The concept is cool but I’ll have to watch a episode or two before I judge anything…

Like you, Alex, I’m just glad that it’s not another word game. TTQ and Lingo are fine, but CR and Camouflage make two too many, in my eyes.

I was just watching The Mole Hawaii last night, and I’m glad that they got him to host it. Like everyone else, Iwish it was something a little more intellctual but I’m glad its not a word game. Can’t wait to see it!!! :)

They could have made it a game with questions whose value depends on how late contestants buzz in.

Who the fuck is Corbin Bernsen? No, I do not watch movies and Celebrity Mole has been on the schedule with Kenny vs. Spenny and Fake-a-Date.

At first, when I was reading the description, I thought they were going to be doing something like the show 19 Keys - look that one up on YouTube sometime, there’s a format that needs to be picked up by GSN.
As it stands - eh. It probably won’t be horrible, I’m just not sure I liked the hosting call; I think Bernsen would do much better on a lighter game show. I’m a bit concerned about the format growing stale - there’s not really much play-along to it, and at a certain point, the game will get repetitive.
