GSN Acquires “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader”; Debuts November 6th
GSN has acquired the rights to the hit Fox game show Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader. The Jeff Foxworthy hosted quiz show, which tested adults on material that appears somewhere in fifth grade text books, will begin airing Sunday, November 6th, at 7:00PM ET on GSN. Fifth Grader ran from 2007 to 2009 on Fox in primetime and from 2009 to 2011 in syndication as a half hour version. The Hub currently airs the half hour syndicated episodes. GSN has not indicated yet if this will be the hour long million dollar edition or not, but given the half hour edition airs with The Hub and both the syndicated half hour episodes of Deal or No Deal and Millionaire never did that well for them, I’d guess it would be the primetime episodes. We’ll let you know as soon as we find out.

would make sense to have the primetime eps.
Or come up with a revised version all together. Like they did in the UK.
What a daydream…. Perchance to dream, eh? (but we are talking about GSN, cant even do Lingo right)
A real game show on this channel is a step in the right direction. I would much rather see both hour and 1/2 hour versions, especially the much better 1/2 hour version, but any game show for GSN is better than more crap such as Love Triangle and Improvaganza.
The Hub already has the 1/2 hour version.
Argh. So instead of producing any more game shows this year, GSN decides to acquire the rights to another game show…a game show that I deem to be one of the lesser-interesting game shows GSN could’ve picked up…5th Grader…
CMT already re-aired all of the 1-Hour Primetime 5th Grader episodes last year, including the boring Celebrity editions that plagued most of 5th Grader’s 2nd primetime season. Personally, I don’t like watching celebrities compete because they don’t need the money, and I don’t believe today’s charities are honest anymore.
You know, 5th Grader is one of those game shows where you only want to watch each episode once, then you get tired of it. Airing 5th Grader at 7 pm may be designed as an attempt to re-transform the network into a family-friendly game show network, but 5th Grader… I don’t know. It’s just…cheesy…to me…
Aside from that, the fact that Kathy Cox, who won $1 million on the show, ended up declaring bankruptcy shortly thereafter… In my opinion, if you win $1 million, you should never have to worry about money, ever again. If you’re foolish enough to waste it all, then you never deserved to have it in the first place. Just my two cents on the matter.
I would’ve rather GSN picked up Duel, or decided to re-air Super Millionaire or Greed…
Kathy Cox donated all the money, keeping a promise she made before she ever went on the show. She didn’t “waste it all”.
Honestly, I have little opinion either way on this. GSN will still cause viewer fatigue with other shows (namely those hosted by people called Howie, Richard, Sherri, and Jerry), refuse to give the fans anything they request, and will continue to fade into oblivion. Nothing that has happened (or will happen in the future) will change my mind.
I agree David – until this network starts focusing on the classics again, it’s going to be in the crapper FAST, and repeating the same shows over and OVER again isn’t gonna keep it on the air much longer! I haven’t watched the channel since December when the same episodes of “Pyramid” and “Card Sharks” kept doing that, and I don’t plan on going back anytime soon!
These are the FOX reruns. I agree with Scott. I don’t have a need to watch any of these again. i sat through the 2 syndicated seasons as well, and I don’t really have a need to ever see it again.
I betting it the primetime version, since the Hub already got syndicated version. Beside, GSN didn’t start airing those million dollar game shows in syndicated first before primetime, look at Millionaire & DOND.
Hopefully, I like to see GSN pick up “Don’t Forget the Lyrics(primetime version), Minute to Win It, & Money Drop.
