UPDATED INFORMATION:We’ve got some new information from various sources including Carrie at About.GameShows. Right now it seems that Betty White will not be appearing. She will make a pretaped tribute to Mark Goodson.
I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to get to go to the 2009 Game Show Awards this coming weekend now. Thanks to a reader’s Facebook link for this story. There may be a fight for the GSAs even before it begins. This one may or may not against Bob Barker and Betty White, according to some gossip websites (so you know the drill about trusting those). If you aren’t familiar with their situation, a feud over an elephant at the Los Angeles Zoo who outgrew his pen created a rift between the two. Barker wanted to relocate the elephant to San Andreas where it should have fun with the earthquares, and White wanted to keep it at the LA Zoo and build a larger home. Betty White won and apparently Barker is pissed.
Allegedly, according to the tabloid, Bob Barker is threatening not to appear at the awards if Betty White shows up. Of course we have no official confirmation and GSN will never confirm this for us, but it’s an interesting and, to be honest, and amusing thought. I can’t imagine anything more thrilling to report to you all from the awards then a Bob Barker/Betty White smack down. They could get some good usage out of the game show sound effects award with that one. So if one appears and the other doesn’t, you know why. I’m crossing my fingers this one is true. I’ve got no idea if this is true or not. It’s from a tabloid. But would it be fun if it was?
That being said, and I hope this isn’t the case, if someone is forced to stay home to “keep the peace” it’s going to be Betty White. Barker’s getting a major achievement award and Betty’s not. GSN won’t want to be embarrassed by this.

Bob Barker and Betty White are arguing over an elephant? Can we not just pause and consider how awesome that sentence is?

Pardon my language, but if this is the case, then I say fuck giving Barker an award and give it to Betty instead. Jesus, get over yourself, old man.

I think Chad and I need to lead up the, “Fuck You, Barker,” movement, haha.

I mean, I definitely respect his on-air duties. Yes, for fifty years, he was a great televison host. However, I’m tired of his real-world antics. Most things Barker did off-air and currently engages in are hideous, disrespectful and just plain reprehensible. Even at 127 years old, he manages to make sure everything is about him.
The BobBots defending him and supporting him even after all of this dirt (and more being revealed currently at the GSF) just sickens me, ESPECIALLY when his maneuvers harm innocent people like Price staff and, in this case, a gem of a woman, Betty White.
So, yes Alex, I’ll wear my badge proud. :)

I hope Betty White shows up. She’s made of win.
And I’ll proudly join the FYB Movement. ;)

I don’t know about you, I think neither one of them should show up if they wish to keep squabbling over a dum old elephant!

I can imagine Allen Ludden turning in his grave right now. If he was still alive he would kick Barkers ass 3-ways to next sunday.

Alex, I had one of the absolute worst weeks a person could have last week, and today wasn’t much better. But this? This makes me smile. A lot.
I will be planted firmly in the Betty White camp, and insanely jealous that I can’t make it to the awards myself. You and Alex P. better be Twittering this one!

Betty White is the REAL DEAL when it comes to animals, and she isn’t the ‘militant’ that Barker is, being that she has never asked episodes of her shows not to be aired or quit a job due to fur coats being displayed! Barker is just a prima donna, and if he doesn’t like what someone does, he just acts like a big baby over it. I remember all of that “I’m the victim” shit he used when the models sued him (especially Holly) – well, the man brought it on himself, no one else did, and as far as being an animal lover is concerned, you can tell that Betty is the TRUE animal lover, as she loves both animals AND people – you can’t say the same for Barker!

Wow… crazy stuff.
Anyways… new category… “Dumbest Contestant”…
The winner is….
Scher on the 5/11/09 episode of Catch 21.
Did anyone see it OMG!!! Man I was soooo mad lol.
Alex, please do a blog on it. It was just unbelievable lol.

I can hear Bob talking about this and himself in the 3rd person: “If Betty is there, then they will have no choice but to do the show without Bob Barker.” Ohhhhhh Bob……
Posted on May 12th, 2009 at 1:02 am
>_< This childish behavior is coming from the man who should have grown out if it 70 years ago. Oh bob. Quoting from “Happy Gilmore”, “The price is wrong, bitch.”

Don’t forget about Mark Goodson and Rod Roddy waiting to kick the Barker ass – Mark because he ’sold his soul’ when Barker got promoted to EP, as he gave Barker veto rights over the fur and foreign car episodes of “TPIR”, and poor Rod because he wanted himself and the models on the show to get the same rate of pay on the regular show as they did on the Million Dollar Specials. Because Barker said no, bye bye camera time for Rod! I’m sure we could make a longer list, but this is a good start…

$20 to the first person who makes a “FYB” shirt and gets on camera at Studio 33.
A runner-up $5 for a Betty White T-Shirt, on camera.

I am not a fan of Bob Barkers but my question is this IS THIS AWARD FOR GAME SHOWS OR ABOUT HIS PERSONAL LIFE
Posted on May 12th, 2009 at 11:03 am
It’s for the machismo he oozes.
Posted on May 12th, 2009 at 11:17 am
Trent: Yeah, I’m gonna go ahead and say that Bob Barker is nowhere near Saddam Hussein and Adolf Hitler.
He’s just a self-absorbed game show host. Please grow up.
Posted on May 12th, 2009 at 1:00 pm
Hell yes Betty should show up! Bob Barker needs to grow the hell up and stop whining and bitching whenever he doesn’t get his way.
Posted on May 12th, 2009 at 1:32 pm
Now, all of a sudden, The Game Show Awards has become The Source Awards. Bob Barker and Betty White going at it over an elephant? I know this is serious stuff, but at the same time……AN ELEPHANT!!! A F***ING ELEPHANT?
To DeNo1MatchGameFan: Betty White has been an animal lover for many years, Bob only became one when his wife died. So I agree with you on that one.
Posted on May 12th, 2009 at 3:41 pm
Just one question: WHERE THE HELL IS VINCE McMAHON WHEN YOU COULD REALLY USE HIM? (and Mark Goodson once lamented that it was Richard Dawson that gave him “tsuris.”)
Betty White rocks!!!
Posted on May 12th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
Mr. Quiz -
Mark Goodson also told a friend of mine from “TPIR” that “Bob Barker is an executive producer who is a game show host”, so that is why he couldn’t stand him. Granted he didn’t like Richard Dawson towards the end of his first run on “Feud”, but at least Richard fessed up to what he did – you’ll never hear that from Barker!
James Greek -
What does Allen, Mark, or Bill have to be mad at Betty for? She isn’t the one who make the remarks – Barker did! Just another famous line to go with his “as God is my witness” quote during one of the ‘modelgate’ trials!
Posted on May 12th, 2009 at 6:49 pm
Well, GSN may get the publicity they want, maybe not the way they want it, but this could be a record breaker for ratings. I’m hoping ET, Insider, etc. pick this one up, because it’ll get brand new viewers for the channel.
Bob Barker? Yeah, right, Outstanding Egotistical Bastard. Is that a category GSN can add?
I figure Betty and Bob might throw their dentures at each other, but, somebody said Bob’s teeth are real. lol.
Posted on May 12th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
DENo1MatchGameFan: As Dick Martin used to say…”I didn’t know THAT!”
Chad: Should we consider introducing the “BobBots” to Rush LImbaugh’s “Dittoheads?”
(..on second thought…)
To all: “Tsuris” is a Yiddish word meaning “heartache.” (although in this context, it’s perfectly
acceptable to mean “agita!”)

I Love those T-shirts!
It’s a shame Betty White won’t be attending. It’s a bigger shame that Barker will.
Remember a while back, I told you about this old movie that’s a personal favorite of mine, called “The Great Man.” If it were to hev benn in production today, you can bet your last money that Barker would’ve been one of the inspirations.
Posted on May 13th, 2009 at 7:39 am
I think that everyone who loves Betty White should boycott this farce, and let Barker get his due somewhere else (like in front of his mirror!) Maybe a book burning of “Priceless Memories” will suffice, as this act is most indeed PRICELESS!
Posted on May 13th, 2009 at 8:07 am
Grow up Bob! Betty’s done more than you anyway.
You’re not the guy I grew up with. My grandmother said he was mean off camera.
Posted on May 13th, 2009 at 9:37 am
Mr. Quiz- There was another movie that describes Barker. It was called “A Face in the Crowd”. It starred Andy Griffith as a man who became famous and had a thirst for power.
Posted on May 13th, 2009 at 10:11 am
Betty White was the first to promote the welfare of animals (I still remember her show The Pet Set), and that she received an award from Game Show Congress (ahem, did Bob? No…). Bob Barker readily admits to his self-absorbtion in his book.
Posted on May 13th, 2009 at 10:58 am
Greg-
That’s another all-time favorite flick of mine. As a matter of fact, TCM just ran it.

To quote former TPIR model Holly Hallstrom from a recent interview;
“Oh absolutely Bob Barker has done alot for animal rights. But let’s not forget that Animal Rights have done alot for Bob Barker.”

Sooner or later, a narcissist always makes a misstep because his unbridled ego just can’t help it. Case in point: Dr. Frankenstein who wanted to play God. Barker picked on Betty White, not a former model or employee, but someone far removed from his work environment and one who is equally rich, famous, loved, and admired, and look at the hissy fit he gets himself into because he didn’t win the fight and get his own way. Now imagine him at work with those he considers his minions. Imagine the power he wields as Executive Producer and maybe, just maybe, some of you will start understanding his Machiavellian behavior; i.e. a man who rules by FEAR! Hopefully, to all the naysayers, this offers a new window into his wretched soul.

God takes Bea Arthur and leaves us Bob Barker. Cue “Price is Right” losing horns.
Posted on May 14th, 2009 at 1:34 am
I’m on Betty’s side! Always liked her on Golden Girls and Mary Tyler Moore Show. She’s been involved with animal rights since the 1960’s (I think). As for Bob Barker, I’ve lost all my respect for him since he became Executive Producer of The Price Is Right in 1987 and started having things his way (including firing staff left and right). The Price Is Right is much better now since Bob left and Drew took his place.

Hi everyone, haven’t posted in a while! You know how it is, Work, School, Life, just busy.
In any event, I have read the recent and exciting news about GSN’s new shows, possible new daytime games for CBS, MILLIONAIRE’S 10th, and more! But, this news about Barker and Betty really takes the cake.
Now don’t get me wrong, I appreciate what Bob has done for television as much as anyone, but this thing about an Elephant and the GSN awards is nothing short of………..what’s the word………..FLABBERGASTING!
After Bob’s guest appearance on TPIR, I was ready to maybe forgive him for some of the things he’s done off-air. But now, this proves that he will never change as a person. That’s kind of unfortunate, because you would think a man of his caliber would have learned that no matter how famous you are, it can’t just be about you! There are other people in this world who matter, and won’t just bow to your, er… “bidding.” :p
Anyway, I can’t forgive him for this. Bob is a great host, a legend. As a person, he still hasn’t gotten it right.
I Also wonder how this will affect his book sales.

Intelligentfan777 Said; ….you would think a man of his caliber would have learned….
What caliber?

The picture you’re showing should have the heads reversed. You’ve got Barker’s head on Rocky’s body, but Rocky was the supposed “good guy” in the movie.
I’ve been on the fence about Bob the past few years (loving him for his on-air work but hating him for his off-air behavior.) After reading about this, there is no way I could ever respect this “man” again.
When Bob goes up to get his award, I hope the audience shows its disapproval by refusing to clap and/or turning their backs to the stage and covering their ears.

Because of her ginormous ego, I’ve perceived “empowerment” having become something of a punchline for Oprah Winfrey. Never mind her success (she’s earned it). Never mind her good deeds (she does them because she CAN). But, at the end of the day, it’s still all about OPRAH! Can anyone help me here, in coming up with something comparable for Barker? After all, you can’t deny that they are somehow in the same league!
Posted on May 15th, 2009 at 1:00 pm
Bob Barker wishes he was in Oprah’s league! (Most people do!)
Bob Barker couldn’t carry Oprah’s swag bag at a celebrity event!
Posted on May 15th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
MrQuiz says Bob Barker is in the same league as OPRAH WINFREY!?!?!?! “After all, you can’t deny that they are somehow in the same league!”
No, not even close.
Posted on May 15th, 2009 at 5:09 pm
I was referrnig to the “me” factor. Nothing more…nothing less. I guess I could have made the same case about Kathie Lee GIfford and Barker, but that would’ve been waaaaaay tooooo easy!
Posted on May 15th, 2009 at 6:31 pm
I’d compare Bob Barker to Leona Helmsley. The Queen Of Mean and The King Of Mean, and both are totally self agrandizing.
Posted on May 15th, 2009 at 6:58 pm
MrQuiz said Barker and Oprah are “in the same league”? Let me analyze this for a hot second. Has Oprah ever been sued for sexual harassment? Has Oprah ever fired any of her staffers for testifying truthfully? Has Oprah ever been accused of being a racist? Has Oprah ever fired any of her employees for gaining weight? Has Oprah ever lied under oath? As far as I can tell, the only thing these two seem to have in common is their love of dogs; Oprah has about six…I think!

It is sad for unconfirmed reports to reveal the mean spirited side of folks. I no longer have access to Game Show Network due to Comcast moving it to the digital cable tier and I just found out about these reports today while pursuing information about one of the subjects involved. Hopefully these reports are not true or at least an exaggeration of the true story, but please don’t be so negative by allowing the reports intensify your present negative feelings toward Bob Barker.
Expressing your negative feelings or even feeling hateful for someone is not good for the soul and will eventually lead to misery.
Posted on May 17th, 2009 at 12:57 pm
Mario500 said; “It is sad for unconfirmed reports to reveal the mean spirited side of folks”
Sorry Mario500, every single thing Punch-A-Bunch cited IS confirmed, and now forever part of Price Is Right history.
The Truth isn’t “mean spirited”. The Truth is only objective.
Posted on May 17th, 2009 at 6:07 pm
@stilavictor – I’m pretty sure Mario500 was referring to the original article, not Punch-A-Bunch’s post.
Posted on May 17th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
To Punch-A-Bunch: But, what about that girls’ school Oprah has somewhere in Africa; you know, the one that was “under the microscope” a while back involving sexual harrassment (or something). Granted, she herself had nothing to do with it. But, she still had lots o’splaining to do!
Posted on May 19th, 2009 at 6:30 pm
MrQuiz…again, methinks your deductive reasoning skills is coming across as lame, and pretty desperate, if you are going to make such a leap in order to construct a sexual harassment correlation between Barker and Oprah. As you so profoundly stated, “Granted, [Oprah] herself had nothing to do with it. . .” Nuff said!

I find the lack of Golden Road.net in this thread disturbing.
One person above thought this petty little bitch fight would impact Bob Barker’s book sales. What about the “sales” of that other asset of his…the one that Drew Carey is currently hosting!?! The Price is Right fanbase has become polarized since Drew took over and EXTREMELY polarized after the firing of Roger Dobkowitz? Why? Because a seemingly great many of them think that Bob Barker is God on Earth, that he is the only one who can do the show, and that no one else can.
A lot of us were willing to forgive his off-camera antics due to the fact that all that drama never spilled over on-camera, into the show. On-camera, he was still able to maintain that warm, friendly persona that he was known for back in the 1970’s. But now, he’s completely blown it by flashing his true colors in front of Betty White. That, and his April 16, 2009 guest appearance seemed really narcissistic. I really hope Betty White reconsiders her decision to not attend. Better yet, I hope she makes a “surprise” appearance. I’d just love to see Bob flash his true colors even MOAR, on live TV, for all of his worshippers to see in plain view!!!
Meanwhile, back in Studio 33…I bet this drama is just the boost that Drew Carey needs. If enough tabloid shows, and even some of the news media, harp on it long enough, then maybe more of the people who are currently shitting on the show will watch it and like it. The respect for Drew will go up, the ratings will go up, and the show could return to some of its former glory! I definitely can’t wait to see how all this plays out! =P
Oh, and at the time I wrote this, there have been 48 comments before me. Who wants to bet this will be like that other blog entry back in June 2007 that topped over 100 comments? :D
Posted on May 19th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
Sawber- I think the ass kissing fanboys are falling apart. Without production company/network employees taking the fall for their beloved Bob and Dob, uh oh, ugly stuff is surfacing. OMG! How do the fanboys explain /rationalize it all away and cling to their delusions in the light of cold hard reality? Oh no! Does this mean that Drew is NOT responsible for Roger being fired, the collapsing economy AND global warming? Oh My Gosh, what will primo fanboy Gavazzi do?
Posted on May 20th, 2009 at 11:58 pm
MrQuiz; So glad you brought up the Oprah school scandal because it’s a perfect example of why, other than Barker being on daytime tv and also having opposable thumbs, any similarity between he and someone of Oprah’s stature ends.
When Oprah was confronted by scandal she dug into it, got answers, took action and reported to her (worldwide) audience.
When Barker was/is confronted by HIS scandals, specifically scandals of HIS OWN MAKING, he sticks his head further up his ass and mumbles “disgusting” women. What a side-stepping slimey weasel.
FYB you loser!
