You know how we told you that CBS is making a kids vs. adults game show? Well, guess what? FOX is trying to rip it off with its series “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?” But, this sounds like it’s ripping off something else, too: one of Jay Leno’s “Jaywalking” bits. All of the questions will come from standard 5th grade textbooks. A twist on the CBS game though: the kids are only there as lifelines, helps, or whatever you want to call them.
Mike Darnell, FOX’s VP of alternative programming, states that “My understanding is that every (network) exec who played the game during the pitch meetings ended up with zero dollars at the end.” If that’s how everybody else turns out, this show won’t last long.

can’t fox come up with their own thing? didn’t they do that with wife swap and the boxing thing? geez, they need a new head of alternative programming…i can sit in his seat and collect his paycheck by checking out what everyone else is going to do and put a ‘idiotic’ fox spin on it…whateva!

This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard! WTF is Fox thinking?
Ok, now here’s the thing……
CBS’s Idea is actually intriguing and unique and might actually be a good show because it’s a concept where you match intelligence with intelligence. The best people (either the kids or the adults) will win, and deservedly so.
What Fox is doing here is trying in absolute vain to create a game that they feel will entertain the masses, but in reality, is something that has no actual reflection on real American values or society for that matter. Eventually it gets to the point of just being insulting, offensive, and wrong, Fox needs some serious lessons in how to put a GOOD gameshow on!

Let’s see…Fox has pulled the rip-off thing before with Nanny 911, Trading Spouses and The Next Great Champ.
I have a feeling that Fox may try and air this show after the American Idol results show, similar to what it did with *Unanimous* last season.

Isn’t FOX forgetting what Dr. Fad use to say? “Don’t just follow fads… CREATE THEM!”

For those who didn’t see this one coming, go to LensCrafters ASAP.
I’m a true FOX fan, I love their shows. I’m obsessed with Simpsons, Family Guy and Married with Children, but everytime there is something new on any of the networks, FOX HAS to rip it off.
CBS : Survivor :: FOX : Boot Camp
NBC : Deal or No Deal :: FOX : The Rich List
ABC : Who Wants to be a Millionaire :: FOX : GREED
Greed was their only successful rip off.

Don’t forget their ripoff of The Chair, The Chamber. Both were awful shows; the best part of either one was wondering whose idea it was to lower an alligator from the ceiling on The Chair.
Then there was Millionaire ripoff 2, It’s Your Chance Of A Lifetime. That one did so bad when they cancelled it they axed Greed as well for guilt by association. And nothing has done as well as Greed in that time slot since, if I remember correctly.

yeah and it had decent ratings and got canceled. a gameshow on Fox won’t last long. if it does I will be amazed. I enjoyed The Rich List, Greed and It’s Your Chance Of A Lifetime. Fox cancelling the Rich list after one episode was ridiculous and i think they purposely put it up against Lost and Criminal Minds timeslot. any good games I’ve created to be a tv gameshow if Fox got it they would cancel it after 1-5 episodes even though the gameplay may be great.

I can’t stand FOX. Crud shows stay on the air, and good shows get canned. FOX just doesn’t know what they’re doing. Not in at least 10 years. and I don’t think they can go anywhere as far as a gameshow is concerned.

Yes, I enjoyed all those shows, too! Is Fox still going to air the remaining The Rich List episodes?

Something tells me they won’t because that would mean paying off the contestants… but surely FOX could get half-decent ratings for them in the summer (well, for the summer), and the absolute maximum the show can give away in an hour is $500,000 (compare and contrast with ABC’s pile of shat).
