Format Update: “Identity Crisis” and “Wipeout”

We’ve got two broadcast formats to talk about today.

*A bit ago we discussed a new game show pilot called Identity Crisis that was casting.  The celebrity based trivia show recently did run throughs in front of CBS executives.  It’s now officially been ordered for a pilot.  The game is based on a board game from Endless Games and is produced by Courtney Cox and David Arquette.  It’s a fun game so that’s good enough.  Add to the mix that the host is going to be Craig Ferguson and our interest level is even higher.  Fingers crossed this one gets off the ground.

*Wipeout had an eventful day yesterday.  First off, the popular ABC stunt show has been renewed for a fifth season.  Who could have figured seeing people smack their faces off foam platforms would do this well?  It’ll be back for another Winter, Spring, and regular summer season.  A sneak preview of the newest summer season begins next week, preceding 101 Ways to Leave a Game Show, on ABC.

Next, this will be co-host Jill Wagner’s last season.  In her place will be actress Vanessa Minnillo.  Minnillo was the host of ABC’s reality show True Beauty, hosted a few MTV specials, and was a New York correspondent for Entertainment Tonight.  She’ll be seen starting next season.

And finally, the show’s Kinect game, Wipeout: In The Zone, is officially out.  You won’t be holding a controller to play this game.  You’ll jump, duck, and run through the obstacle course in your own living room.  Best of all, no concussions.  That’s a plus.  Click here to look at the game and maybe purchase it.

Vanessa Minillo?! We really need to have a ’90s boy band special Wipeout (as Nick Lachey is her fiancee).

  • Scott says:

The Cube, Identity Crisis, Secret Fortune…what’s with CBS hosting pilots for primetime game shows all of a sudden?

Hopefully they’ll put through at least SOME game show instead of just making pilots for shows they actually never end up producing *coughTHECUBEcough*.

Identity Crisis…is that similar to the short-lived cheap $500,000 game show Identity on NBC?

    • Candice says:

Identity Crisis is more or less the public domain party game Celebrity or the similar branded game Time’s Up!

Imagine $100,000 Pyramid, but all of the categories are “people” categories. Yikes. – Adrienne Barbeau would not be pleased.

  • GSN fan says:

    GSN’S BAGGAGE GOT A NEW(er) WEBSITE FORMAT

  • ????? says:

I suspect Identity crisis will be for CBS primetime, not daytime. THere’s not much room on CBS Daytime right now with the Talk and LMAD being renewed.

  • Alex McMillan says:

Anything with Craig Ferguson becomes 10 times better than it originally was.

  • Danielle says:

If you’re interested in applying to audition for the Courtney Cox/ David Arquette game show (and have a chance to win up to $100,000) you can email CBSGameShowCasting@gmail.com or visit http://www.mysticartpictures.com and fill out an application. Good luck!
