We’ve seen the clock claim a few victims already.  I can’t wait to see what it does starting on Monday with “Family Week” on Who Wants to be a Millionaire?.  three people of three different generations will all play the game at the same time.  It should be hysterical (I’m not sure if in a good way or a bad way) to see the families flounder and argue.  Actually we probably won’t see that because there’s no time to argue.  If you do, you’re screwed.

I think the bad part of the news is that the expert is going to be Alan Thicke who played Jason Seaver on Growing Pains.  And it segues into why I’m really not a fan of Ask the Expert.  What it seems like is that they are going for people who give them more publicity than anything.  I understand that’s how the show works and the eyeballs they can get from the celebrity experts is good to them, but the fact that the ratings have been basically stagnant this season while Deal or No Deal is inching closer would make me wonder.  If it wasn’t for Skype basically using this as a commercial which I’m guessing helps out some financially, it would be basically useless.  For every one Ogi Ogas we get two or three Entertainment Weekly editors.

Be a bit happy, though, Ken Jennings is back as an expert on Friday which basically makes me think Thicke sucked.

to rip-off a quote from Chris Griffin on family guy: “How does Alan Thicke keep getting work?”

but seriously when it comes to the ask the expert, the contestant jsut have to use logic, ie. if you ahve an entertainment weekly writer, don’t ask them a question on science or world history, if you have Alan maybe a music question (since he has composed a number of tv theme songs). jsut askthem questions you don’t know on their area of expertise.

Robin Thicke wasn’t available? Nothing against his dad, but what has he REALLY done since Growing Pains? Well, other than Pictionary (which I thought was underrated).

Maybe it’s just me, but I have a feeling they’re going to tone down the questions for this week of shows, so that it’s more “family friendly”. Maybe they won’t make the questions pushovers, but I can see some of the upper tier questions coming from 5th Grader’s Million Dollar Question stack.

Marc, about giving Alan a music question, case in point, look at the question in the picture :)

    Oh, and the answer’s C.

Alan Thicke should be ashamed of himself, as they were sent to him to answer a QUINTESSENTIAL QUESTION that Alan Thicke should KNOW and he drops it — how could he not have known the lyrics to Growing Pains’ rival Family Ties (which, EVERYONE I KNOW confuses the two) .. “What will we do, baby, ‘without us’…”, yet he talked the contestants out of picking Family Ties as the answer (Q: Which of these shows’ theme is “Without Us”).

    Alan Thicke.
Master of the 1980s sit come theme song.
    Unbelievable.

    :D

Alan Thicke was 2 for 4 as an Expert. That’s not great, but it’s probably at least as good as the average celebrity Experts they have had so far. I wouldn’t say he “sucked” bad enough that it caused him to be replaced. Ken Jennings was called in at the last minute when the taping was running late and Thicke had to catch a plane.
