Family Feud has a taping this Thursday at Tribune Studios. Currently, it’s the only session listed, so I’m not sure if this means that they’re starting a new season or taping more segments for the upcoming DVD game.
Has anyone been to Wikipedia’s article on the feud. They have posted the rumored new logo for the feud. Its looks kinda cool, but i dont know if it would fit in with current set, unless they made changes for the ‘07-08 season.
I hope, as an old feud fan, that some of the old features to the show, like the bells ringing when a number 1 answer is revealed, and the camera shot of the studio as the host moves to opposing team for the steal, and the studio audience NOT CLAPPING when point values are increased etc. return with the feud being under new management.
The show has become sort of “too predictable” but i still love it.
I see the same blocky Impact-ish logo from this past season on the Feud Wiki page. Another rumored change, a studio move, didn’t happen either as the link above says that Feud will tape at Tribune Studios.
The only things I’d change are the pre-manufactured signs some audience members hold and the theater-in-the-round set-up. Everything else is a vast improvement from the Karn-age of last season.
Aha. It’s at this page, not the actual Family Feud page on Wikipedia. That clears that up.
After looking at that logo, I think it matches the new set perfectly. The new set is a modernized version of the classic Feud set. Why not have a new logo which is a modernized version of the classic Feud logo?
I have to agree with DDELE7 (#1) on all his points. I have some to add which I think would also help:
- I agree with the not clapping when the points are doubled or tripled. I think they should also not have the audience clap after every strike in the main game or zero in fast money.
- Get rid of the music and clapping in fast money when the first contestant is done and the second player comes in. For God’s sake, just get the man/woman on stage and get on with it.
- The 5th round should NOT require a family having to give the number 1 answer to win the game. That’s like settling a hockey game by a shootout. Play the question as you would in the previous rounds.
- The prize money should be increased to $25,000 and points won during the game should be awarded in dollars also.
But most importantly…..
- Please, please, please I beg of you GET RID OF THAT CRAPPY THEME MUSIC! It is sooooooooo lame. Bring back the good old theme like true Feud fans remember.
Just as an addition to that, I’d like to see them change the break pattern too, to where it goes question (commercial) question (commercial) questions till the end of the game. This way a family that wins the first two rounds won’t be put at a disadvantage like they are now. Meaning that the double question is made so that that family can’t win the game in 3 rounds. I think that’s unfair and needs to be changed.
There’s nothing more that I hate about the current Feud than the theme music also. If we can’t get the ORIGINAL theme, at least get the ‘94 theme, for cryin’ out loud.
Replying to a few of the points Michael stated…
- Clapping after the points are doubled/tripled is just getting old. As for the strike thing, they could bring back the short buzzer Dawson’s original run used…although one wonders what good that might do (read: hardly any). For the zeroes, it’s just like the ol’ “good answer” gimmick the families use when one of their own gives a rotten answer…nothing we can do about that, methinks.
- The Bullseye-esque tiebreaker is kinda unnecessary. It’s not like they’re pressed for time or anything…John could just scratch the Fast Money explanation to save time. Or maybe get the audience to shut up, as previously alluded to…
- Dollars, not points…I like that. I think, though, that the $20,000 pot is working well so far. $25,000 really won’t be necessary unless they finally decide to change the $5/point consolation prize in Fast Money. Which brings up…why not make it at least $10/point?
And one more thing…
- Burton’s opening spiel after he says “On your marks” seems kinda weird going from that to the host intro without any kind of transition. If it were me writing the copy, I’d model it after the Australian spiel, with a bit of the classic intro mixed in:
“It’s time for the Family Feud! Introducing our challengers, the (name) Family! And here are our champions, the (name) Family! Both of our teams are ready for action on…the FAMILYYYYYY FEUUUUUUUUUD!!!” And proceed as usual.
I’ve given up hoping for them to cut the cheering. It’s gotten less obnoxious, which I can live with. If they haven’t given up on it after four years, they prolly won’t…
Lose the signs though. They’re corny and unnecessary.
My Family Feud suggestions (which are on the cutting room floor somewhere at Fremantle):
(1) No stupid clapping after the double and triple rounds are announced. At least Richard Karn’s not telling us that he can’t be stopped from tripling the points…thank God.
(2) No cue music between player 1 and player 2 in Fast Money.
(3) $10/point in Fast Money…at minimum. Sucks knowing that you scored 199 points and you’re taking home $199 for a day’s work.
(4) Add $5000 a day to the Fast Money jackpot until someone wins it, starting at $20K. There will probably be a $100,000 jackpot at some point if this rule was brought into play because the families aren’t that bright on this show as of present.
remember when they brought back the old theme, albeit in a slightly different arrangement, for half a season with Karn? They thought it would help with ratings, but it didn’t, so they scrapped it.
But, IMO, the thing they need to do is get better stations and time slots. The show still has legs, and a big name star to host. If they were able to get it on some big name stations in a good time slot, I think it would get better ratings.
No matter…I think the show is good the way it is. The new rumored logo is nice. Kinda retro, and fits with the “old is new” theme of the set.
They should start the top prize of Fast Money at $25,000, and increase the top prize up $1,000 everytime it’s not won just like Lingo’s bonus round. Also, get rid of the old $5 a point format, and make it $50 a point.
Well as much as I like $50 a point, it would put the show a bit over budget. I prefer that the prize would be from $5 to $20 a point so it would be a bit more fair. Oh and BTW, it seems that it will likely moving back to their original studios at Studio 33 Bob Barker Studio in Hollywood.
you know, they do have some of Dawsons 94-95 special episodes of feud on youtube.Type in “Family Feud 94″. I actually can remember seeing these shows as a young child on WWOR-TV Ch.9 (now MY9) here in NYC.
That era’s theme music has grown to me, and i hope that score productions does something with it and brings it back for next season. May’be even mix the Anderson era intro to the show with the current version.
I actually like the progressive jackpot idea. Its easier to make a bigger jackpot in this way then to bring back the Bullseye/Bankroll round(s).
Here’s a crazy idea, what if we went in the direction of Barry-Enright (The Jokers Wild, Tic Tac Dough etc.) and offer a car to the family who wins 5 shows in a row.

I have read that they considered bringing back the classic theme music for this version… does anyone know why it hasn’t returned?

Do you think Feud will return to network TV, possibly on CBS in daytime?
In NYC, theres ET (Entertainment Tonight) and the insider at 9 & 9:30 respectively and then its on again in the 7 o’clock hour.
Since the world doesnt need any more news on Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan or whatever, the slot should go to the feud.
Thats just my two cents.
