I’m out watching the Penguins game but I just got a great update from our friends at Family Feud. The popular syndicated show hosted by John O’Hurley will raise the top prize from $20,000 to $30,000 for this upcoming season debuting in September. More info once I get back from the game.

Allow me to throw out a prediction:
The current celeb versions of Family Fortunes in the UK have two possible Fast Money prizes.
£10,000 for getting 200 points, and £30,000 for getting 200 points AND all five top answers.
I’d guess something similar is happening here.
I find that to be quite cool to say the least. $30,000 is quite the chunk of change. I’m assuming they have done quite well in the budgeting department. Plus, how often is Fast Money won anyways on average? Once or twice a week is my estimation.
Raising the jackpot is all well and good, but what I’d rather see the producers of Family Fued do is raise the amount of money given away for a losing effort in Fast Money. Five dollars a point was fine in 1976, but is cheap in 2009. How about raising it up to $10 a point? That means a family that only gets 150 points in Fast Money for three straight days will end up with $4,500. Pretty good money for bonus round futility.
Well, this is very good news. the $5 a point is getting too old. $10 a point is great but what about $20 a point. That way it would go up to code. Anyway, it’s good to see that they will get a better jackpot and hopefully better timeslots for it’s 11th season.
I’m going to laugh hard if they decide to leave the consolation money at $5 a point.
While they should up the consolation money, I don’t see it happening. Seeing the prize money upped to $30,000 is a surprise to me. The show is so cheap to produce that a 1.5 rating level has kept the show afloat for at least 5 years or so. The prize money is now what I watch Feud for. I watch for the stupid answers and fun families. It’s just a fun show to watch. Hell, I wouldn’t mind if they still just gave away $5,000. It might look cheap, but who could say that the show would be any different, or have a worse feel with less money?
They needed to up the money for a while now. IMO $30,000 is a strange number (imo $50,000 would be the best) but more money is more money and that’s good.
And yeah I also agree that $5 a point needs to be raised to at least $10.
Nice to hear that they’re raising the top prize on the Feud. Like some other people have said, I totally agree that the $5 a point really should raised. It’s been like that for 33 years, and it definitely should be changed to something like $25 or even $50 a point. $5 a point is nothing these days.
I agree that the top prize should be $50k instead of $30k and also raise the $5/point to $25/point (or $50/point would be more desireable)
I still wish they’d play the main game for dollars instead of points. It pushes all but the weakest teams over the $1,000 threshhold. I also agree that it’s unusual when a top prize, minus the zeroes, is anything but 1, 2, 25 or 5. (“This is the $37,000 Pyramid!”)
I think it should be a $50,000 top prize and at least $25 a point. But hey, any change is welcome.
I’d love to see the points become dollars during the game (start both teams at $100 and play to $300). I wonder if fast money will use 10 questions (no duplications needed) and have the winning fast money score be 300 points (losers get $10/point).

Oooops! I should have said start both teams at $200 and play to $500. (Of course they start at 0 points and play to 300 points now.)
I think that a Family should play for 100X it’s score, meaning the minimum score you could play for in Fast money is $30,000 and the Max is $59,990.
For Fast Money $10 a point is fine, but $500 to $1,000 should be added to your cash total, even if you lose, if you get the Number One Answer to a question.
So If you lose you can still get over $5,000, and you could have over $64,000 if you win.
