“Family Feud” Officially Renewed

Good news.  The syndicated Family Feud has officially been renewed for the 2008-2009 season.  Right now they have more than 80% of the country cleared, including 47 of the top 50 markets, and it’s expected to fully clear by Fall.

[Charlie Horse]This is the show that doesn’t end, yes it goes on and on my friend…[/CH]

But John O’Hurley has made the show very enjoyable again, so here’s to another good season!

John has done a great job hosting the past two seasons. To boot, this will also be the longest incarnation of Feud to date (the Dawson Feud lasted nearly 9 years on ABC). My mom doesn’t like him (she thinks he’s too pompous), but I really do. His knowledge & zany wit amazes me. Whether it deals with dogs (as National Dog Show commentator), game shows, or TV/radio voiceovers (he does commercials for Bojangles’ chicken), he is the mark of a true Irish-American actor.

Pretty impressive for a show considered to be on life support only a couple of years ago.

  • Brad Davis says:

That’s great. John has been the best host since Ray left the show. It would be nice if they raised the prize money though. $20,000 is getting kinda cheap when compared to other games shows (esp. since you gotta split it five ways). $50,000 would be decent. $100,000 imo would be ideal but it’s probably out of the budget.

This will be year 10 of the current run of Feud. Amazing. It feels like it just started a few years ago. The show has gotten better as time has gone on, primarily because they finally found the right host.

    A Renewal?

    SURVEY SAYS……………..(DING) *WIN MUSIC* :)

Feud has never been better with John at the helm! Here’s to more surveys, and fun on the FEUD!

I guess I have to be that guy…

    O’Hurley = Worst. Host. Ever.

He forgets to tell us what the number one answer is for some categories in the end game, and can’t deliver a scripted joke with any form of believability.

Combine that with the planted signs in the crowd and other over-productions and this version of the Feud makes me want to cry.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad the show is surviving, but things need to change. It’s killing me.

  • Brad Davis says:

You not liking John is your opinion of course but to say he is the worst host ever?!?!?! You actually liked Louie more then John?!?!?!

  • Chris says:

I didn’t like John as Feud host at first, but he’s really grown on me since then. Glad to see he gets to continue hosting.

To Dan Y.: I don’t think John is the first host to forget to say the number one answer in fast money (didn’t Karn forget it a few times?)

  • Measles! says:

I don’t catch Feud as much as I should, but the ones I have caught have been good. I’m glad O’Hurley’s getting a renewal. While I hate the planted signs and the over-production, he’s done a good job and deserves more of a run.

  • ddele7 says:

    im glad to hear this.

since the Price is Right now uses the Fremantlemedia credit instead of Mark Goodson, shouldnt Feud adopt this tradition too?

And yes, $20,000 doesnt seem like much these days for a top prize. International versions of Feud got much bigger prizes. Family Feud should raise theirs too.

This is great news I have really enjoyed John O’hurley hosting family feud. I think they need to bring back the original theme music with a new mix to it

  • Martin says:

Here is my rank on Family Feud hosts from the beginning:

    1. Richard Dawson
    2. John O’Hurley
    3. Ray Combs
    4. Louie Anderson
    5. Richard Karn

Richard Kard was the worse host on Family Feud. He was stiff, stale, and boring. I found myself rolling my eyes all the time and the ‘energy’ he had on the show was so superficial and unbelievable. I am glad that O’Hurley is coming back. However, there are elements of the show (set, music, production, etc.) That I feel would better the show with him on it.

AND YES!!! $20,000!!!! That’s a little bizarre. I think that most producers of Family Feud unwillingness to change the money for a long time helped contribute to FF shaky success throughout television history.
