“Family Feud”, “Millionaire”, and “Deal or No Deal” Start New Seasons Monday, September 7th
Monday’s a big day for all you game show fans. Three big fan favorites are starting their new seasons and each have some interesting changes to keep you hooked in. First we have the second season of Deal or No Deal. The show, as many know, moved to Connecticut for the new season but everything’s apparently going to look the same. Same look, same game, and the same big prize of $500,000. No one won it last season, though some came close. We’ll have to see about this season. No real giant twists are in the mix as far as I can tell but special theme weeks are being added like usual. Weeks of nurses, teachers, firefighters, and police officers will be present like last season, along with weeks of Halloween and Christmas shows. Unique to this season is WWE Week. If wrestling is your sort of thing you can see people apparently named Dolph Ziggler and Divas Eve and Maria guest on the show. But for all those like me who absolutely despise wrestling, it’s just another week of shows with a minor annoyance.
Who Wants to be a Millionaire starts its eight season with host Meredith Vieira. Last season brought on a major format revamp, including the clock, the categories, and new lifelines Double Dip and Ask the Expert. All those new elements are going
to remain in the show for the new season. The biggest change is the introduction of a new money chain which gets gets rid of those pesky $100 questions and starts right off at $500, then $1,000; $2,000; $3,000; and $5,000. The next tier ups the ante even more with an earlier chance at a five-figure payout. You’ll get $2,500 for each question you get up to question 10, which is worth $25,000. The final five still remain at the big payouts of $50,000; $100,000; $250,000; $500,000; and the ultimate prize of $1,000,000. Millionaire is also including the Tournament of 10, where the top ten performers from the first 45 episodes will get to the chance to risk their previous winnings to answer one $1,000,000 question with no lifelines. The top seed to do it will have their total augmented to $1,000,000. This could really create some exciting gameplay, since people may be prone to risk their money more than before in order to get into that top ten. Don’t forget that the nine people left in the Ring of Fire from ABC’s anniversary edition this summer are going to be the first nine contestants (though they will be playing under the old money chain) so we may be seeing some giant wins in the debut week. Don’t miss it.
The biggest and most exciting changes are coming to Family Feud. I know we’ve been over it repeatedly, but for those who want to vent about it anymore, here’s your chance. The show is reintroducing the Bullseye round, where teams get the chance to increase their initial banks of $15,000 up to a potential $30,000 bonus round payoff ($10,000 more than previous seasons). The other big change, never done in the show before, is any team winning five games wins a brand new car. I was on the set for a week of shows and that car adds more tension and excitement to the show than a simple prize increase could. I honestly do believe it’s the best addition the show has made in a long long time. I was there when the car was given away, and you won’t want to miss it. I wouldn’t want to miss the first week of shows either. Just a warning.
And there we have it. Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy!, The Price is Right and Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader are debuting in the next few weeks as well and we’ll have posts devoted to that coming. Which of the three coming Monday are you most excited for?

Why do so many think that just because the first group of contestants are the leftovers from the ring of fire, they will do better than most?
You have to figure, four of them passed the phone test, not the regular test (which is much tougher to pass). In addition to the regular test, those five also passed the interview (whatever they are looking for in that is unknown to me, but not everyone passes that).
So none of the nine are really likely to be any better than any other contestants throughout the season, and considering they couldn't get a million dollar winner with some of the easiest questions the show ever had, I really don't expect anything special from this group.
After reading the bit about WWE week on DoND, I can almost guarantee that the first thing Dolph Ziggler will do once he comes out on stage is use his usual line:
"Hi. I'm Dolph Ziggler."
For those who don't get it, he says it all the time…
I don't mind upping the dollar values, as long as they justify it by making the questions tougher.
Well, as I don't get the local channel that airs DoND and Feud…Bring on Millionaire! Gimme some of that clock, man! Tournament…I'm there on my lunch break!
I guess I'm more interested in Let's Make a Deal, truth be told. Hope it doesn't suck as much as Wayne Brady's appearance on The Early Show. If it works, more daytime network game shows are sure to follow. Then maybe The Pyramid will get it's shot!
Ahh, Deal Or No Deal just gave me a plus. They moved to my backyard (CT whoop!), and they’re dong a WWE week thing. Yeah, I know you despise wrestling, but I think it’ll be good. They had heels Randy Orton and Edge come out and faces John Cena and Bobby Lashey when Rick aka “The Sign Guy” played, which I thought was a really good episode, and wrestler Nuzio was there when his brother played. Dolph “Hi My Name Is” Ziggler is good at selling his gimic, and the beautiful Eve and (my favorite) Maria are gonna be there, so I can’t wait for them, well her.
And “The More You Know”- (un)lucky case 13′s model, Layla Milani (forgive me of I spelt it wrong), was a finalist in 1 of WWE’s $250,000 Diva Searches. Sorry, I’m a Wreatling über fan. Forgive my rambling.
Millionare is gonna be ……. Interesting. First, the other 9 from the Ring Of Fire are gonna be happy for the increase of money on the Millionare money chain. The tournament will be something I would like to see, but does anyone kinda feel like that’s a somewhat copy of the Aussie Hot Seat (theirs is when someone gets a question wrong, another contestant comes out and takes over for them, but the top prize is gone.) The tournament is almost the same, people answer questions and whoever answers so many more questions right then the others gets a shot at the million dollar question. Almost a reverse of the Hot Seat. Should be fun to watch.
The 9 players don't get the new money chain. It starts after them.
We were at a couple of the DoND Nurse week shows and although the studio is a little smaller than the California studio, I'm sure that most people will never notice the difference.
I'm wondering if it's usual to debut this many new seasons on the holiday. Or is it just a happenstance with Labor Day being as late as possible (Sept. 7)?
But Feud is the one of these I'd be most interested in seeing. (Now if they would just pick out a more appropriate music cue for the walkups to the faceoffs!)
To googoohead: Thanks for the clarification. At least I was close ;).
A few years ago, the big guns(J! & Wheel) use to start the syndie season on Labor Day. Then apparently. that got moved back a week because some stations did not like the idea of having their shows "pre-empted" by the Jerry Lewis Labor Day MDA telethon every year at this time. But it's really not unusial for game shows to do this to start the fall season.
I too am looking more to Family Feud with the bullseye round. I may be a loner here but I actually loved the bullseye round on Combs Version. People say it doesn’t relate to the game but you still have to try and give an answer to a survey question which in that case the top answer. You still want to try and give the top answer when you start so how is the bullseye any different from the game. I would love to see the bullseye version of Combs on GSN. I am looking forward to the all new let’s make a deal and I feel that Wayne Brady will do a good job. I would like to be able to try out again for Deal Or No Deal which would be my third time and even if i left with $10 grand or more.
A big Family Feud thank you to Alex & all the Buzzerblog visitors! We REALLY appreciate all the comments & support. We have some exciting, fun, shows for this new season. We hope you enjoy watching them as much as we did taping them! Thanks again!! – Your Feud Friends
Deal or no Deal because the syndicated version has a chance to erase the memories of the now defunct primetime version and also because it will be interesting to see the new set in Stamford, conn
It should look exactly the same. Went to a taping there, and it was awesome!
I'm looking forward to a number of shows this season. Obviously Family Feud is the one I'm mostly excited for because it's a fun show as well as the new Bullseye Round which looks like it works better than Bullseye or Bankroll from the early to mid 90's since it takes the best of both and seems to move at a better pace. Jeopardy! is catching my attention because the CES 09 set is going to be the permanent set and I read there will be montly Celebrity Jeopardy! games. I'm not sure how I feel about that, it could be a very interesting set of shows or a disaster. I just wish the board fill effect would return! Starting with the 09-10, Wheel of Fortune says good bye to the "Free Spin" disk and replaces it with a "Free Play" wedge. where if the contestant lands on it they can guess any letter without penalty (such as loosing a turn if the letter is not there) with vowels worth nothing and consonants with $500. Also the Jackpot wedge will be in play durring round one and the $5000 wedge will be placed right near the Bankrupt wedge.
DOND doesn't air in my area thanks to a golf tournament in place of the season premiere!!!1
Thanks, Feud! We will enjoy this season, probably like no other! Let's PLAY THE FEUD!
Part 1, no coincidence, most likely. Part 2, coincidence. Tax breaks were hard to pass up.
