“Family Feud” Adds Bullseye Round for Season Eleven

New Family Feud Set #2New Family Feud information seems to be coming in every day, so let’s have a roundup of all the news that’s happening with it.  First off, the one item that’s not a catch is the car.  Any team that wins the full five games will win a brand new car.  That’s pretty exciting?  The main exciting part comes from the increased money.  It’s been reported that Fast Money will award up to $30,000 for any team that wins the bonus.  How do you get to the $30,000, though?  For the syndicated show’s eleventh season, hosted by John O’Hurley, Feud will be bringing back the Bullseye round.

In Bullseye, two family members, from opposing teams, face off against each other trying to come up with the number one answer to a question.  First to buzz in and  get the number one answer wins money for the team’s bank.  Each of the five members gets a shot at playing a Bullseye question.  Whichever team wins plays Fast Money for the total in their bank, which equals up to $30,000.  Pretty exciting, isn’t it?

This is a genius move for one big reason: they can advertise a larger grand prize while probably giving away less.  I can’t see the bank starting at $20,000 and the five other questions totaling $10,000 for a total of $30,000.  I see the banks starting at $10,000 or $15,000 and going up to a $30,000 top prize for getting all of them which won’t happen that often.  They’ll give away less in the long run, but bring in the excitement of potentially a lot more, not to mention bringing something new into the show.

I’m a big fan of Family Feud and from the beginning of season ten I’ve been saying it’s time to refresh the show.  It was time to bring in something new to a show which hasn’t changed in a very very long time.  Doing all of this is a huge breath of fresh air and I for one can’t wait to see it.  The only thing I wonder is how they are going to squeeze the game in.  They were sort of rushing with the four rounds/300 point goal format.

We’ll be on set later this month and giving you the scoop on everything.  Family Feud begins taping on June 7th.  Don’t miss it!

Oh…I almost forgot; $20,000 is the least you can play for.

What is the sound effect for a correct bullseye answer in the bullseye round? Are they going to use the answer flip sound with a "ding ding ding" at the end like on the Combs version? The sound effect that really needs to come back, or utilized more often, is the “Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding” Bell (used during fast money). It was also used as a round win cue until 2002. Sometimes it’s difficult to tell if a family had won, even with the lightning effect because they use the some portion of music. It would be nice if the “Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding” came back (yes, even 1999 version with the techno) as a win cue and the portion of “the feud” theme used as the game win cue only.

No clangs or bells this time, Emanuel. Someone on The Game Show Forum said that from his visit to the show, just a whoosh and a thud will sound when the Bullseye answer is revealed. Also, keep in mind that the set will be red during the Bullseye Round, and suspenseful music will play. Once that round ends, the music will end, and the set will change back to normal colors.

  • Emanuel says:

A "whoosh" and "thud"? That sounds Deal or No Deal-ish, which doesn't sound promising. Bells and sound effects made game shows sound exciting. I don't know about the suspenseful music, I never really thought it went well with the tie breaker question but we'll see. Everything that was described sounds like the tiebreaker round.

It's Not Going to be all that fun to see the Bullseye Round without the dings and bells. The Suspenseful music, does not match so well either. This round may not be that interesting to watch.

  • Anonymous says:

    Did you mean "Clang"?

  • Emanuel says:

When I said Bells and sound effects made game shows sound exciting, I was talking about Game Shows in general. It seems that nowadays, it's all suspenceful music and "thud" sounds. Take the speed up round on Wheel of Fortune, does the suspenceful music in the "speed up round" REALLY make the game more suspenceful?

When you say "clang" do you mean the "answer flip sound"? Then yes, it would be nice to hear that in the Bullseye round.

  • anonymous says:

I was thinking that $15,000 would sound more reasonable than $20,000, but the hey, it's the Bullseye Round.

  • Stephen says:

    Yes, I meant "clang".

  • Stephen says:

I also meant to say the "answer flip sound".

  • Stephen says:

I'm sorry that my replies are mixed up, guys. My mistake.

  • Craig says:

It's not your fault. It's an honest mistake. It happens every now & again.

And yeah, I want those clangs & sound effects too. That red set's gonna remind me of what a photo developing room looks like.

One other thing to remember is that the large projection screens that hide the intro furniture and display the family names will no longer be seen. Instead, the furniture will stay as backdrops for this season. Plus, the Bullseye bank totals won't be in sight on the set, either. That's because the family podiums will still have the same stupid eggcrate readouts, and they will still only be used to show the main game scores. This means that both the family names and Bullseye bank totals will either be displayed by on-screen graphics, or they definitely won't be shown at all for the TV viewers.

  • Stephen says:

What I described in my first comment had nothing to do with the tiebreaker round. Suspenseful music has never been used in the tiebreaker round. My comment had to do with what the user, CJBojangles, talked about on The Game Show Forum. Visit the forum, check it out, and you'll see what I mean.

  • Emanuel says:

That's a very messed up change to not have the family name displays. What's the logic behind that change? I hope they come to their senses and decide to lower the projection screens that cover the furniture and family's names.

For the displaying the Bullseye Bank totals, the easy solution would be to replace those old eggcrate displays for LCD readouts that display the Bullseye Bank. Why don't they use the score displays that are on the board! They're much better than the old eggcrates on the family podiums.

    1.Classic Feud Set + 2.Current Logo+ 3.Bullseye Round + 4.1994 Feud Theme + Host John O'Hurley = Best Dang season of Family Feud!!!

It may not be in season 11, but let us hope it becomes a reality for season 12….Maybe?.

  • Emanuel says:

Family Feud has posted a couple of Bullseye round videos from Season 11 on Youtube and I have to say, I'm impressed. The Bullseye Round does go pretty fast and isn't time consuming. The suspenseful music and "whoosh thud" effect didn't sound promicing, but it actually works. I think I like the Bullseye Round much better on O'Hurley's Feud than on Combs. I'm looking forward to Season 11.

However, I still think the show made messed up moves by removing the projection screens that display the family names and keeping the old eggcrates for showing the main game score instead of using the score readouts on the big board.

Anyway here are the Bullseye round clips:

I was recently a contestant on the show on Sunday, and wished they had a timer for the Fast Money round. The 20 and 25 second clocks are only onscreen post-production, not actually seen by contestants.

  • Miles Morris says:

Let me just say that this is a very critical idea. It could benefit the show but it could also say that's all she wrote. Gaby Johnston, Family Feud's executive producer, could have trouble on her hands. I agree that the show is already rushed as it is, and it could get even worse with the addition of the Bullseye game.

It spelled big trouble for the show when Ray Combs, God rest his soul, hosted it. Viewers complained that it took too much time and tried to add unnessecary drama to the game.

If it doesn't work out next season then they need to 86 the Bullseye game immediately and it's better if the increase the Fast Money round stakes and keep the car concept and leave it that way.

  • BEL says:

I have been watching for a while. How often is the car actually given away? If ever!
