We just received official word that cable network ESPN Classic has picked up the rights to the cult classic American Gladiators. The show will official debut on the network on March 31st from 1PM ET to 8PM ET for a marathon. The show will debut in its normal time slot, taking the place of the, in my opinion, pretty bad and boring Stump the Schwab, weekdays at 7PM ET starting Monday, April 2nd.

Stump the Schwab was okay for sports lovers but after awhile it got less and less interesting and stuart scott got more annoying. I loved American Gladiators and I haven’t seen it since TNN (now spike TV) aired it.
One problem: I don’t get ESPN classic. but The Score aired stump the schwab maybe they’ll follow suit.

The classic episodes were great, and I’m sure it will bring good ratings for ESPNC. But I think the public is ready to see an updated, new version of this show, don’t you think? It’ll be very cool to see a revival of this show.

I haven’t seen American Gladiators for a long time. We might have forgotten that the show originality aired television in syndication before it aired on the cable networks which would include USA and TNN (now Spike TV). I predict the shows that will air on classic will be the repeats.

Should be interesting to see if they show us the greatness of Two Scoops. TNN/Spike just skipped right over those seasons.

Finally, something I can’t totally tear to shreds!
I LOVED American Gladiators. I’m so glad ESPN Classic finally picked it up. It’s the first thing ESPN’s done right in about 10 years

Now THATS a game show that can be re-done in this day and age. Just don’t have models as Gladiators. We know how the networks are these days when it comes to contestants.

This is really great news! I was so sad when Spike took it off the air. Deep down, I think AG is a guilty pleasure for many people, and I believe an updated version could work quite well (maybe even on ESPN? :D )
NOW, the only problem is, my local area let ESPN Classic go a few months ago, now (along with late night WSOP reruns), I have even more of a reason to want it back! AHHH, I must fix this!

I saw the promo for this whilst watching today’s NCAA Basketball marathon. When I heard the classic theme music, I was like, “WHOA!” Great snag by Classic.

I wonder if they’ll show the International Gladiators series from the latter part of the run…

I enjoyed Stump the Schwab, because I’m a sports trivia buff, but I like this idea a lot more. :) American Gladiators never, ever gets old.

Game Shows and Sports Network? GSSN? We already have Nick Games and Sports, and it’s not as good as it used to be (they could vary the lineup a bit and not air the same show six times in a single 24-hour period) but still I wouldn’t mind a new AG.

It would be nice to see the ultra cheap looking Season 1 from 1988 (I think) again. Haven’t seen it in about 12 years when it was still on mornings for 2 hours on USA. That was the season with only 6 gladiators, the Grim Reaper Referee, and other cheap things. Who knows what they’re actually going to start and what seasons that they acquired, though. Never got to see Two Scoops. By that time, Gladiators was on late nights on Saturdays back home. Always wanted to see what the hubbub was about (outside of that International thingy that aired on TNN/Spike TV.

I cannot wait to see my favorite gladiator “Lace” to be on screen again. I still remember she’s one of the smallest gladiators in the first two seasons and was beaten up by a few bigger contestents like Wendy Brown. However, she made a huge entrance when she came back in season three looking fitter than ever by gaining twenty more pounds of muscles!! She looked even bigger than Zap during that season.

To this day I still tell my friends about Wesley “TWO SCOOPS” Berry and I often quote that I am going to give 115% like him. I really hope ESPNC eventually shows his episodes and more people can witness his tenacity. Anyone remember the clip they showed of him leaping over a car?

The above is true about American Gladiators.
About 2 nights ago, I saw a commericial on ESPN classic for American Gladiators.
It is about time someone came to their senses and brought back our show. Now if we could just get it on DVD as well as new episodes.

I was on the show and won one of the series. My brother just called to inform me that it was playing again. I’m hopeful I can obtain a full copy of the series through ESPN since many years have passed and I would love to one day show my child that Mommy was a little crazy back in the day! Lace by the way never gained 10 lbs., but she did make her debute in Playboy, which really moved her up the viewing ladder. Zap on the other hand remains in great shape and still looks wonderful! Blaze, Gold, Zap, Sunny, and Lace were all great competitors! What a fun and exciting show. It’s so funny when you watch the show, it is nothing like the true filming… there are many accidents and all are edited out so the viewers are truly unaware of the overall danger!
If anyone knows how to get a copy of the series, please post a reply! Can’t wait to see the series once I figure out when it is showing on cable!

I was always afraid for Lace. She was so small, most of the contenders were bigger and far stronger than she was. Every time she competed I honestly remember worrying about whether or not she got hurt. I remember a couple of times when another female competitor would literally pick her up and carry her out of the conquer ring. I remember her wering casts as she was interviewed. I remember her on the assault podium and the announcer reminding everyone how small she was compared to her opponent

This is the best who ever. I was like 10 when it aired and im 25 now. And all my friends are pumped its back. Someone needs to make a new series with all new athletes. To bridge the break in NFL offseason. Im sure me and my colleged aged friends would watch it and older and younger ages too.
Oh and Zap was the Best Female Gladiator by far. I emailed her on her website and she sent me a genuine Reply. Shes awesome.
Nitro was the best dude.
