Nice treat for you all this morning; we were given some information about the half-hour syndicated edition of “Deal or No Deal”. The top prize is going to be $250,000. There will also be fewer cases and fewer models. How many less? Who knows. Here’s what I really want to know: Why was this information released more than a year before the show is going to supposedly debut? Information about any other syndicated game show in a long time came out just a few months before its debut. Could we be potentially looking at a January release, much like syndicated Weakest Link had? I also really hope they will consider taking the British route with the gameplay. NBC is wanting to pair it with Crosswords in the six biggest markets if it does well. If it doesn’t, NBC is looking for another partner. Might I suggest 1 VS 100?

Something tells me it could be pushed up.

Why couldn’t they follow the formula on Telemundo’s ‘Vas o No Vas’? They have/had 26 models on that show, plus the first-ever contestant to leave the top $250,000 prize as one of the final two cases. Italy, Australia, and other countries have ‘One vs. 100′ on daily. With all my respects to the late Merv Griffin, his ‘Crosswords’ show should be given a chance. From the digitally-animated trailer I once saw, I was impressed.

The syndie Weakest Link got to air about 9 months after the primetime show’s premiere. I don’t see how or why a syndie Deal could not go to air as quickly, especially if (when?) Steve Wilkos’ talk show tanks.
Why not go the Vas o No Vas way? The biggest issue is that show was 90 minutes long, even though some episodes were edited down to 60 minutes. To get our Deal down to 30 minutes (21 or 22 mins. w/o commercials), they’d have to go with an Aussie style of game–no excess chatter, no pregnant pauses or overly dramatic reveals, no phone calls with the banker, no lime green Escalades, no ponies, no Celine Dion and, for heaven’s sake, no excessive editing. There is no reason a half hour show should take longer than an hour to tape, let alone 3 or 4 hours. Howie could do in excess of 250 episodes of Deal per season–guessing 195 syndie eps. if they aim to debut in Fall ‘08, another 50-70 primetime eps. depending on how much NBC relies on Deal to save them this fall. Can we say “burnout”, anybody?
Australia doesn’t have 1 vs. 100 on daily. It’s a weekly show which airs Monday nights at 8:35 PM on Nine.

The syndie D/ND definitely needs to cut all the gimmicks from the primetime show. Not so much because they’re corny and lame, but because of time constraints like Mike said. You include all those gimmicks in a half-hour show and you won’t make it past the first Banker offer.

Ok, this is how I figure. If they continue to air this in primetime and syndication, DOND will die of an overdose. One version at a time when it comes to shows like this, please.

I think if they could tone down the daytime Deal and maybe keep the primetime version at once a week, it could survive. No different than when networks aired a daytime game show, then the weekly syndicated version for more money.
Then of course, Wheel lasted eight years with daily network and syndicated versions. And Super Millionaire actually performed well in the ratings with the daytime version. It all comes down to the execution. Deal definitely can’t use the trademark gimmicks from the primetime show. Make the daytime version a little more low-key and keep the NBC version as the goofier, “high profile” version.

I thought the prime time version of deal was just fine. Seriously im so tired of these stupid modified 30min syndicated shows.
I hope to god they don’t syndicate 1vs100 5th grader and don’t forget the lyrics and power of 10. They are fine in prime time as long they don’t air it to death

1 Vs 100 is currently airing weekdaily in Italy & France. The Aussie version is currently running a weekly show with the same format, however their money tree is %50 less. Unlike NBC, Channel Nine does have faith in the show. Originally it was set to run for 16 episodes. Earlier today saw the 30th episode (now 10 more transmitted than NBC) being transmitted.

I think the syndicated version should be in the format of the UK version; 5 cases in the first round and then 3 at a time each round after that. Contestants on each case though… thats a toss-up.
