Before I head out for roller derby, we have a return date for Duel. ABC’s site suggests it’s coming back on Friday, April 4th, at 9PM ET for ten Fridays. Did we finally ditch the tournament format. I’d also love to know why ABC renewed a horribly low rated game show. However, just fix some format issues and we can have a nice little game.

I would say that the show probably wasn’t “horribly low rated” by ABC’s standards/expectations. For Friday nights, it will probably do satisfactorily enough. Perhaps it will work better as a weekly serious (especially if they lose the tournament format)

I, for one, liked the show. I am not sure whether they should bring back Mike Greenberg And His Magic Pen, or hire someone else (and his/her Magic Writing Implement Of Choice, if necessary).

I am shooting more for the british version here from what I know of the casting director on this, as they are shooting it now for the new airing and they only wanted folks who were in/around southern california area for this series of the show.

Re: Chris P.
Yeah, it was a bit disappointing that the show only wanted people living in or around southern California for this go-around, especially after they did tryouts in several cities for the first tournament.
I sent in an application, photo and e-mail to the casting director shortly after the Craigslist posting appeared, and I basically got chewed out by the casting director for not being a SoCal native (I’m from the Southeast U.S.). I said I had no problem paying my own way to compete on the show, and I still got chewed out.
After all the effort the show made in recruiting contestants the first time around (the show published requests for applications on several message boards back in the fall), Duel really seems to have curtailed its casting efforts this time around.

I personally think that a once to twice a week run is the best. Only wanting players out of Southern California is ridiculous. I do have an idea how to improve this and this is better a bit than my last time around.
Duel: One player is selected as random and in the gallery are three players. The one will select one of the three that they think they can beat in a best 2 out of 3 match. Each match is worth various amounts of money and the winner of the 2 out of 3 Duel the winnings for there next matches go up. Also as usual all players will get 10 chips and players will get one press per match. Each wrong answer goes into the pot and is worth $500 per chip. The winner of the match not only win (see amounts below) but how much is in the pot.
1st Duel- $50,000 ($25,000 per match) possible total- $69,000
2nd Duel- $100,000 ( $50,000 per match)- possible total- $119,000
3rd Duel- $200,000 ( $100,000 per match)- possible total- $219,000
4th Duel- $500,000 ( $250,000 per match)- possible total- $519,000
5th and Final Duel- $1,000,000 ( $500,000 per match)- possible total- $1,019,000
possible total winnings altogether if i figured right $2,145,000
bascially the more duels you win the more money you win. If the challenger of a duel in duels 2-5 doesn’t win he or she leaves with $2,500
Do away with the tournament except maybe later on for special episodes. i personally can’t wait for this to return though and I think they should do a twice to week run put it on Fri at the current time they are going to have it and put it on Sundays at 8/7 central.

Glad this will be coming back. With a few tweaks this can be a real winner. Lots of folks missed this first time around due to the holidays. Just pick up the pace of the game and have a bonus game of some sort. The British version rocks, the more like that this second run is, the better…
And lay off Mike Greenberg. If he is allowed to be himself this will do just fine.

Tournament format or not, Duel is one of the better shows to come form this recent crop. Greenberg is a decent host in my eyes, say what you want about his pen. :p
I have seen that indeed there will be format changes with this second go ’round, and it will be on in a decent weekly time slot, so my hopes are definitely up for this one.
