Did We Get the First Male Quarter Millionaire on “Deal or No Deal” Today?

Since we more or less launched BuzzerUK, we’ve been curbing our series “The British are Better Than Us”.  However, that thought was the first that came to mind during today’s Deal or No Deal.  When Deal is good, few shows can top the excitement and energy Noel Edmonds, The Banker, and the show brings.  In six years and almost 2000 episodes four young women, all in their 20s or younger, have won the top prize of £250,000.  No male ever has.  Today’s contestant, Rich, had his sight sets on the life changing top prize.  The game was one of the best ever and something that no fan of Deal or No Deal will ever forget.  From the start, with a £20,000 opening offer, it was an epic game.  Can Rich land in the Hall of Fame and be the first male quarter millionaire?  You are not going to want to miss this one.

What do you think?  Spoilers in the comments so read at your own risk before watching, but wow.  What an amazing, tense game.  The reactions from the audience are going to be equally hard to forget.

In the record book, it’s £50,000, but Rich is definitely one in a quarter million.

It was one of the most thrilling episodes of DoND UK I’ve ever experienced, and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Every offer was exciting, and Rich definitely milked the game for all its drama. It will definitely be one of the most memorable episodes of the year.

I wish it could have been the jackpot, but what a run for Rich! Good job and great episode!

    False start… Pilgrims. :D

I remember Morris way back in the first year when he went for the big prize, and his comments before the big reveal completely rang true here: “This is the only way we’re going to find out.” Rich played it exactly the same way. It’s astounding enough that the Banker even offered above the average, which he almost never does, especially when the big one’s still in play. Just… wow…

Rich, enjoy the money. I wish it could’ve been more.

Too bad Rich didn’t win the full amount, but £50k isn’t too bad, either. :)

That clip of the final six boxes doesn’t even do the episode justice.

The dramatic tone usually reserved for 8 box and on down was out in full force at 17 box, and did not let up once.

DoND UK: The biggest tease on television since 2005.

It’s a shame Rich’s gamble didn’t pay off, but at least he got 50 large out of it. Had the other amount been a blue, he’d have looked like a complete idiot.

BTW, it seems that if you want to win the £250,000 top prize, it helps to be a woman aged 25 or under, preferably from Wales. Some of the jackpot winners have matched this description.

Got one on Meredith Millionaire for sure! :P

First off, I have to admire Rich for winning a lot of money on this show. IMO, DOND UK is the most difficult incarnation of the show to win on, given there’s so much less room for error (having to open three boxes in the late rounds instead of just one), and what seems to be really lowball offers by their banker in most of their shows. Any big winner on this show has respect from me.

I have to admit: I’m always one to look at odds and averages and largely take emotion out of the equation when it comes to this show. In Rich’s position, I would have taken the £85K deal; with the possibility of eliminating all three large amounts in this round (wasn’t possible, but nobody knew this at the time), and the banker offering ABOVE average, it was a easy decision for me. I was stunned when he turned it down.

Then it happened again with the £160K. This time, not only did he get an above average offer, the odds were against him, money wise – risking £110K to win an additional £90K. However, the big question in my mind as the scene was playing out was, “Would I be satisfied winning £50K, when I just turned down an offer for over three times that?” For me, the glory of being the big winner wasn’t worth risking £110K.

Both of those scenarios would have been ‘Deal’ for me, and even thought I felt he would go for it, I was still shaking my head when he did. Judging by his reaction afterwards, I feel that decision is going to haunt him for a very long time.

I’d definately take the £160k. In my mind you can do three times as much with that as you can with £50,000 – but you don’t have to reduce your ambitions too much compared to the £250k. £250k or £160k would still give you the car, the holiday and a good chunk of money to the dream house. You might have to go for something a bit smaller, but ultimately you wouldn’t really lose out on anything.
