“Deal or No Deal” Officially Canceled

This comes as a shock to no one really, but Broadcasting and Cable today confirmed that the syndicated version of Deal or No Deal has been canceled.  That means no original episodes of the show will air next season.  Deal or No Deal has been on the air on NBC primetime and syndicated daytime for five years.

NBC should’ve kept the show in L.A. Trying to save money by moving to Connecticut. If they haven’t greenlit terrible shows, it wouldn’t have come to this.

    • James D. says:

I don't think Connecticut was the issue, as NBC moved three other shows to the state (Springer, Povich, Wilkos) and all will be returning next season. In addition, taping in Connecticut opened up opportunities for east coast contestants to try out for a game show.

It just wasn't a show that was "must see." The night-time version, by the end, was completely unwatchable, particularly episodes where NBC was trying to stretch what was essentially a 10 minute game into two hours. The daytime version did a much better job at emphasizing the game elements and banker-related strategy, but it still felt over-caffeinated and crazy.

Unfortunately we'll get reruns for five more years…

Two words to your one: About time.

    Because Low Ratings

  • ????? says:

WHat about Millionaire or LMAD? No word on those yet, we'll see. I don't think we have to speculate on WOF, J!, or, despite its lower ratings and being beaten by the View in some big cities, TPIR, coming back in the Fall.

Also, Howie Mandel is going to be busy with his new gig as a judge on America's Got Talent.

  • Mike says:

Boy, my NBC affilioate really has to find some new shows for next fall. Here in Chicago, Deal, Martha, and The Bonnie Hunt Show are all off as of next fall, giving my NBC affiliate 3 hours to fill.

Doesn't come as a surprise that deal would be axed a second time. While the u.k version is doing very well with viewers from the usa and united kingdoms.

    Oh dear….

  • Craig says:

Yeah, that's almost as bad as Simon Cowell being a judge on our version of X Factor next year. UGH!

Anyways, looks like my NBC affiliate's gonna have to find something to run against the noon news come September. I doubt they'll go back to doing local news since they chucked that in 2008 in favor of DoND.

To grinch: The prime time version was cancelled last year as well as the rest of NBC’s dignity.

To ????? (don’t get the name but whatever): Unless, by some natural disaster, their ratings suddenly drop to the point of Deal or No Deal’s, both will return next season with hopfully Let’s Make A Deal being paired with $xxx,000 Pyramid.

It’s sad to see Deal or No Deal go out the same way as The Weakest Link (2 years in syndication and, poof, it’s gone).

  • Concerned GSN Viewer says:

I'll bet GSN came banging on NBC's door the minute they heard the news. Wouldn't be half shocked if they rebrand it as the "Carnie Deal or No Deal Network"

  • James D. says:

NBC was asked whether it would bring primetime DoND back in the wake of the "Leno at 10" cancellation, but the Peacock said no.

  • @NozeNuggets says:

Wouldn't be surprised if NBC O&Os made a deal to get Family Feud. They need programming, and could go to locally produced newscasts and local talk shows as well.

  • James D. says:

Millionaire has been renewed until either 2011 or 2012. That deal was made a few years ago.

You almost never hear about a daytime show's fate unless it's been canceled, so I would say it's pretty safe that LMAD will be back in the fall.
