Quick heads up: NBC’s Deal or No Deal is being taken off of Wednesdays starting October 24th to make room for new competition show Phenomenon. Not a huge shock as the ratings have really been rather poor for Deal recently, especially compared to last season. As we’ve been saying for the past year or so, I wouldn’t expect it to stick in primetime when the syndicated version starts in 2008.

I agree, DOND has seemed sorta lackluster this year. I have yet to watch an entire show without doing something else in the process. For isntance last wednesday I was playing tetris and just listening to the show. I’m thinking the only thing that might save the show is a $1m win but not during the $1m mission since that makes the game too easy. I don’t see why they couldn’t have just done an esclating jackpot say another $50,000 added to the big one until someone wins it the other cases remaining at their usual values (although they could increase the .01 case as a joke.)

Yeah, Alex, I agree that DoND is a total shell of it’s former self. I think episodes from 12/05 were like the British Deal in terms of being the only week where all the contrived junk and super annoying contestants and side supporters were kept under control. I believe the poor ratings are now due to the fact that every DoND fan, including myself, has finally decided to come to their senses that it’s too clogged with too much contrived junk. That, and it’s pulling a Philbin’s Millionaire in terms of airing it in too many time slots.

I really think everyone needs to tone things down on that show. It’s really why I don’t watch it anymore…everything’s so…I dunno, overdone? I’m sick of the gimmickry, sick of the annoying contestants, sick of the side supporters, even sick of the overall mood of the show nowadays. At this point, I don’t think even a million dollar win will save the show, with or without the million dollar mission. (Even if one did happen either way, NBC would probably promote the daylight out of it, and even spoil it in the process.)
Although I like the idea of increasing the penny case as a joke…

Escalating jackpot. Every time it’s not won, add $25,000. Every time it goes up to a round half-million, bump up the backup values. Repeat until won. That’d work.
Though Howie saying something like ‘The $1.675m case is still in play’ would be spectacularly goofy.

GEEZ! Doesn’t anybody at NBC have ANY BRAINS AT ALL. Don’t they realize that if DoND goes into syndication that it’s going to meet the same fate Merv Griffin’s Crosswords is meeting right now? I HATE NBC for this. Shame on NBC. I hope that Chuck show bombs and that DoND goes back to Mondays at 8 where it really belongs.

Deal Or no Deal seems better this season i just don’t like the 5 one million dollar cases. Its funny how every primetime has low ratings before the syndicated one starts up.
Nbc needs to air the show one time every week and leave it primetime

The Million Dollar Mission stunt makes for an interesting game, but an escalating jackpot would be a great add-on (the Jackpot Case). Apart from this, there is just too much theming going on. Remember, the game’s the thing.
Since the syndie version will be toned down, I expect less fluff and more game, and more watchability there. But this is no longer appointment television.

I still love this show but the annoying contestants get on my nerves. They need more contestants like that guy who played twice who is from arkansas he was exciting but not too over the top. I really feel and know that DOND needs me as a contestant because i can get excited and not get too over the top. I say leave DOND on the Monday slot as it was and move Chuck to Wed although i do like the show Chuck but Deal is a better show on Mondays. I say no more than twice a week for Deal. I personally think that DOND if on twice a week should be on Mon and WED because that is the two nights it does the best on. DOND on Mon and WED and 1 vs 100 on Tues and Fri at 8/7 central at midseason.

I can’t be the only person here who’s found the new season absolutely nauseating to watch. It’s not even the gimmicks, either: they just edit the show to pieces. I was watching the end of the show on Wednesday, and during the “second bank offer/introduce the family” bit, I counted THIRTY-THREE cuts in the span of one minute. I was getting dizzy.

I haven’t watched DOND regularly since the beginning of last season. Like just about all games today, it was dumbed down and filled with gimmicks to please audiences who like that kind of stuff and in the process alienated fans who were a fan of its game and not its overly present tear-jerkers and reunions.
