I commented on this earlier, but I have more to say after watching the win. It almost seemed staged for some reason idk. Anyway, if DonD does have high ratings its only because people watch the last 10 minutes or so to see if anything great happens. Advertising wins takes all the mystery and excitement that was once DonD. I was watching AYSTAFG and they had their first milllion dollar winner tonight. When they went to commercial I was expecting them to say something about the win only because NBC had done the same but then I remembered, this was FOX.

IIRC, CBS didn’t spoil Jamie Sadler’s $1,000,000 win on “Power of 10″, nor do I recall the $1,000,000 wins on TPiR’s MDS being spoiled. I assure CBS won’t spoil any $1,000,000 wins from MDP as well (and I believe CBS only shows the wins in promos AFTER the episode has aired), unlike what other networks have been doing lately…

Also, regarding David Legler’s win being spoiled on “Twenty-One”, I do recall something like that, but I do not remember if they spoiled Rahim Oberholtzer’s $1,000,000+ win, though.

Someone also mentioned Channel 4 not spoiling Laura’s �250,000 win in promos on UK TV… I would assume other versions of DoND in the world didn’t have their big wins spoiled in their promos too (for instance, I assume the Seven Network didn’t spoil Dean’s $200,000 win on Australia’s version about four years ago, nor would ABS-CBN do the same thing regarding P1,000,000+ wins on the Philippine version). If I’m right, then NBC needs to take a lesson from other networks and not show big wins in promos until AFTER the episode airs, not before, and not during. :-)

This isn’t the first time NBC was guilty of this s**t. When they aired the ill-fated revival of TWENTY-ONE in 2000, they tipped their hand with a promo involving a scene with balloons cascading from the ceiling to the floor of the show’s set-implying “history would be made” (there would be a million dollar winner). There was; and his name was David Legler.

I think the reason for all the cause of these ridiculous antics is that people lost interest in the show. When It first premiered I was a huge fan of the show but the repetitiveness (if that’s a word) makes you want to fall asleep. They probably figured hey if we do this it might work if not here’s another option. I think they’ve outdone themselves this time, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the show cancelled after this season. What NBC should do is cancel all their primetime game shows and let jeopardy and wheel of fortune do their thing. They’ve been on all these years they must be doing something right.

And Nick if it is a million dollar mission (which I also have a gut feeling it is cause why would NBC want somebody to win $1,000,000 on a regular show) then there will be more astericks on this then on Barry Bond’s Home Run record. LOL.

Travis P. thanks for the info. I’m from Canada so I wouldn’t have known about your host of Millionaire throwing it to break before an answer was revealed. Thing was, it was in 1998. When Millionaire and other great game shows followed from 1999-2001, they were greatly produced with no cliffhangers, hour-long contestants, or spoilers during the game or in the promos. These producers nowadays do not care about this and people still watch rather than look away. I just don’t care about Deal anymore and I think that this will be the final season. I think the ratings will drop after the millionaire is crowned. Hey Travis, can we give NBC your version of Deal? It looks 100x better.

I think its the girl who has “texas guts y’all” Or whatever it is she screams when she slams shut the plastic casing. Howie is wearing a solid purple tie and striped purple shirt when he reveals case 4 as the million, and he’s wearing the same combo with the ‘texas guts ect.’

I didn’t see Lyrics, but if I recall correctly, the contestant who answered the Million Dollar Question correctly on 5th Grader bombed out in the 1st or 2nd round. (Or was there more than one person who went for the MDQ?) But in any case, it was a very good “fakeout spoiler,” because they didn’t actually have a million dollar winner.

CBS usually remains tight-lipped about their winners, being they didn’t publicly leak the results of TPiR primetime shows either. I think there was a very small clip in a commercial, but you had to pay really close attention.

With Millionaire, the results were leaked with a few of their wins (Carpenter and the two syndie wins), but I don’t remember it being public knowledge the way NBC does.

NBC is in 4th place and desperate for viewers. If they have to tell people to watch for a big win, they will. And given their tendency to over-promote (complete with obnoxious pop-up ads), you know you won’t be able to escape the commercials unless you just don’t watch NBC.

Actually you can blame Chris Tarrant as we started the “we’ll reveal the answer after the break” on Millionaire. Back in 1998 it was unique for that to happen but now everybody has jumped on the bandwagon.

I suspect CBS won’t spoil it in any way as they are senisble. Since I am thinking right they didn’t spoil the Power of 10 $1 Million winner?

Let’s not forget 1 vs 100 also promoted their million dollar winner game. It was in the “Battle of the Sexes” when they said “One of these two people will win the million”. Gee…after 1/2 the show was over, you knew the next guy was going to win it.

So NBC has already done this kind of thing, and I guess we can expect that they will continue.

It’s feels like Homer Simpson ruining the plot for the Empire Strikes Back. LOL. “Thanks Mr. Blow the picture for me!” In this case to NBC and Endemol: “Thanks Mr. Blow the big surprise for us!”. A lot of you are also forgetting the continuous non-stop “throw it to commercial before we open the case crap” which has been going on for about 3 years but of course you should blame Seacreast for that! And of course, the dragging hour long gameplay which just lulls you to sleep. Has anybody not learned from “Game Show Marathon”? The worst part of this though, is some people that like to complain about spoiling a game and all the other crap I have mentioned, are still the same people that continue to increase the ratings for these shows. I stopped watch most of these shows a long time ago. Just don’t watch. I hope you “posties” are doing likewise and not watching. Where are the great game show producers when we need them? Even on that note, where are the great game show hosts when you need them? I’m sorry Howie only works with Deal because of the type of game that is played. Every other show that requires a ounce of brains should not be let to comedians (See Catch 21). Game shows were so much better prior to 2005 and nobody seems to care. Sad.

Shame on NBC and Endemol for spoiling it for everyone. Just imagine if Jeopardy show promos saying that Ken Jennings became their first million dollar winner,or, as Shon replied Tic Tac Dough showing promos saying that Thom McKee became the biggest winner in game show history at the time. Nobody would watch it. Word of tidbit for CBS and Fox: if they ever have a million dollar winner on MDP or Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader (and, at least in the latter’s case, they won’t), please, for the love of G-d, DO NOT PROMOTE IT!!!!!!!!

Until Howie came out of the closet, I would not believe anything that NBC said.

Remember the season 3 finale, the “best for last”? Liar, liar, pants on fire!

Now I want to know how likely it is that even with a MDM game, we get these $677,000 offers. Unless luck has finally reversed itself from these weird disastrous occurrences on Thanksgiving, which incidentally have not happened on any other day of the year, and disastrous round 5s from the early stages of MDM 2, then there has to be some increased prize gimmick.
