GSN has announced the new president and CEO, taking over for Rich Cronin, and that man is David Goldhill. Mr. Goldhill will begin on August 1st and will be responsible for all aspects of GSN’s business including expanding its digital platform efforts. GSN is a well-distributed network with an established audience and strong support from cable and satellite providers,” said Goldhill on his appointment. “It is also a unique television platform in the rapidly growing casual game space. Our challenge is to extend and enhance our brand across the various platforms through which our audience watches and plays casual and skill games. The Sony and Liberty relationships are crucial to GSN’s next stage of growth. I would hope that GSN’s efforts will become more relevant to each of our owners’ broader game businesses and that we can more fully leverage their substantial content production and distribution capabilities.”
In June, David Goldhill was elected chairman of the board of directors for Fun Technologies, which handles online sport and skill based games which GSN is heavily involved in now. Goldhill is currently a Senior Advisor to Associated Partners, a New York- based investment firm specializing in media, telecommunications and technology. From 2002-2004, Goldhill was President and Chief Operating Officer of Universal Television Group, a division of Universal Studios. In this capacity, he oversaw all operations at the company’s domestic and international cable television networks (including USA and SciFi), cable and network television studios, first-run syndication business, and worldwide television distribution.
This period with him might be very interesting. My hopes to get some more focus on the network itself instead of the net games seems to be dead seeing how heavily involved he is with the casual game industry. But beyond that, with this transition, it seems like it’s time for GSN to decide which path it wants to follow, as it’s been teetering on the edge of several for the past few months. Regardless, good luck to Mr. Goldhill. Let’s hope for some actual success for the network.

From reading everything here, the network’s future looks very grim right now. I hope I can be proven wrong, but I am getting a lot of Cronin vibes from him.
With the online traffic of ABC.COM after “National Bingo Night” aired making the difference whether it returned or not and now GSN is focusing more on their online presense than their network, you can tell that the internet is starting to become more a powerful business than ever. I just hope that GSN doesn’t throw in the towel on the network and show no effort at all with programming or even worse…focus on GSN.COM completly.
I have to agree with Xavier:
When i read the announcement the hair on the back of my head just stood up,and that means only trouble.
I will give Mr. Goldhill the traditional 5 month “Benefit of doubt” but I just dont see GSN
returning to what brung it the most viewers and thats the classic shows.
Mr. Goldhill…you have a lot to prove and your job is not going to be easy at all! we game show fans are a loyal bunch !
All he needs to do is bring better originals back into the fold (Russian Roulette NEEDS to return) while mixing some vault classics (B-E plus Pyramid and rarer Goodson stuff like Ward TTTT, Narz/Wood or Monty Hall BTC, and another run of MG90 would be my ideal mix right now) while still focusing on what is working right now. Acquisitions of more recent versions in the vein of O’Hurley TTTT would be nice too… dare I say it, I almost wouldn’t mind a run at MG98 or (SOMEBODY PLEASE KILL ME BEFORE I SAY THIS) Card Sharks ‘01 compared to things like Show Me The Money and Dog Eat Dog.
He should also focus on bringing Playmania back to how it was when it was at its best. Ditching the boring “100 Winners” nights was a good move, but Quiznation right now is a caricature of itself with all the two-minute clocks, repeating of how to enter and the utterly hideous “Zombie Mode” which I don’t even understand the purpose of. imo everything’s been going downhill since Mel Peachey left….I like Angelle but she needs to break her dependance on the clocks. Jeff Thisted, on the other hand, has to go. His “two hundred and fifty buckaroos” shtick is irritating beyond belief.
I hope they go with more classics. I will say for the most part the daytime lineup is a bit better than it use to be but I think to go back to mainly classics and only keep close to newer shows like millionaire and add deal or no deal or even 1 vs 100 to the mix. Also bring back Russian Roulette it was one of the best GSN originals i’ve ever seen. Let’s also bring back Barry and enright shows especially Joker’s Wild, Tic Tac Dough, Bumper Stumpers and play the percentages. this just a schedule idea and i think it would fit some of most of the classics and a few new ones thrown in there i’m figuring that GSN will pick up DOND soon now if only they would pick up Classic Concentration but i know that nbc won’t give up the rights to it.
They will eventually, and what about TPIR, maybe that’ll come we haven’t seen it in 7 years.
GSN 1994-2007-8? RIP
I think GSN is past its expiration date. I really do not see this guy being able to improve things at all. As long as they focus their stuff on the internet, they will not be successful. I’ll give this guy a chance, but I doubt things can be salvaged at this point.
Anyone else hear the music playing? Turn out the lights, the party’s over…
This party’s long since been over. RIP
Like I said, Im giving this guy the B.O.T.D. for 5 months…and if all he does is for the website, THEN I’ll perform the last rites for GSN.
But why do I have this gut feeling we might not have to worry about Playmania’s future for long
I sense a dark wicked storm heading over to GSN and pretty soon this network is going to capsize. I was really hoping for Bob Boden to return since he would be GSN’s saving grace at this point but that idea just blew up in my face. As far as I’m concerned, stupidity is NOT going to get GSN out of the .3 realm.
I can’t wait to see them plunk down big money for a game show they will only air a few times…oh wait, that happened with Show Me The Money. I’m concerned about GSN’s future but I think the main changes to the network will only be cosmetic in nature.
again I think that my above schedule should be the schedule for GSN that would be that if i were president. I would make some changes though during the fall, jan and late spring early summer and i would definity bring in shows like $1,000,000 Chance of a lifetime, Wipeout, Supermarket Sweep, Debt, High Rollers, Make Me Laugh and Osmond version of Pyrmaid and i would in a few years which if i were president i think GSN would pick up it’s ratings because i run most the classics and a few newer shows. I also have some games that i’ve created that I would bring out too. So does anyone think GSN should have me as president with my schedule idea?
