Dave Networks and Fremantle Launch “Price is Right” Official Site

First, I just want to go on record and saying how amazing Drew Carey is at hosting The Price is Right.  I’ve never been a fan of the show really, but I’m actually finding myself wanting to watch because of how fun the show is now.  Makes me wonder what we could have had for years if it wasn’t for Barker staying on for far too long.  I always felt he was unbelievably overrated.

Fremantle and Dave Networks have launched a brand new official The Price is Right site, which you can visit by clicking here.  You can also just go to PriceIsRight.com.  On the site, there are video clips, games, Drew’s video blog, and a social network to communicate with other Price fans.  It’s incredibly nice and a long time coming.  Be sure to check it out, it’s well worth your time.

By the way, I heard this through the grapevine during some chat with Drew Carey on a Price is Right fan site:

10/23/2007 20:43 mrbrown2195: Hi Drew! Tony (America’s self-declared ladies man) here from Baton Rouge, Louisiana… you’ve been doing a great job so far and I’ve been very impressed. My question for you is : Have you been reading reviews of your performance as “The Star of The Price is Right” on the Internet?
10/23/2007 20:43 DrewCarey: only the good ones. :)
10/23/2007 20:43 DrewCarey: actually, I’ve tried to skip reading anything positive or negative, although I did check out the boards here and on buzzerblog.

How cool is that?  We’ve been huge fans of Drew since his sitcom first started and even more with Whose Line is it Anyway, so we’re incredibly honored.  Thanks so much, Mr. Carey.

Awesome! Just Awesome! Now THAT is a TPIR site! It also includes a Drew Carey Video log (just saw “Episode 1″) where you see Drew at work behind the scenes, at rehearsal, and we get some reviews from Rich and the models about Drew! I’ll just say, they’re pretty darn good! What can I say, Drew is a hit! I’ll be hitting that site often in the near future.

I’m TiVo-ing TPIR now…never did before (except for Barker’s last show.). But Drew has made the show much more fun to watch. He’s still a little rough around the edges, especially when describing the game rules and the “spay and neuter” sign-off. But I don’t care, that’ll come in time. It’s so clear that he’s having fun that it’s contagious. And I love the little asides about the cheap-o merchandise in games like Plinko and Cliffhangers. A playful irreverence. The thing with the VW-shaped mp3 dock was comedy gold! They no longer mention brand names on a lot of that stuff anymore, which makes a little teasing possible…no sponsors to piss off. One thing, Drew…what the hell is the thing with playing with your pockets? It makes you look too fidgety. If you’re that uncomfortable in a suit, let’s get you in a sweater or something more casual. But great job, man. You’ve given the show a much needed jolt…nothing against Bob.

I’m glad Bob went on his terms after many many happy memories and that the new host is offering something new that actually works. I don’t think anyone can ask for much more than that.

Hopefully Drew will just keep on getting better as he settles into the show. Maybe soon the college crowd, at least, will wonder who ‘that Barker dude’ is…

WOW!! This website is astounding, to say the least!!! One really needs to make the time to take the time to go through all the clips!

Did you see the Pricing Game Descriptions? They plagarized from gscentral.net!

It’s about time that PiR has a official website and not just a web page on cbs.com. I love the fact that the site has a great balance of Legacy of Bob Barker’s era and Drew’s new era.

It’s a true labor of love!

    Great Job!

I agree with the rough part, but I think its already smoothed out. Did anyone notice the episodes are played really out of order. Were they always like that? I just got a DVR and I’ve set it up to record TPIR so I watch it every day now. I’m a little disapointed about how they seem to use the same games over and over, when they have a big pool to choose from. I don’t really like half off. But soon hopefully I will have everything somewhat memorized, so when I go on I have maybe a better shot at winning something. :D

  8. 8 Joe Capitano Oct 25th, 2007 at 8:51 pm

Yes, Luke. It has been noted and noticed. By now you know Drew has been learning several games a week so, in order to cut the repetition down as much as they can, they (CBS and/or Fremantle) decided to do some “cherrypicking.” What’s really noticeable is the win percentage of the shows that have aired so far - 74.07% (40 of 54 - slightly less if you don’t count Pl!nko!) through October 25. It took nine shows before reality finally caught up with them - a 2-for-6 effort. They’re probably also making the games less of a challenge, too.

As to the website, I give them props for giving the show a better internet presence than CBS is willing to offer - especially for the ladies. I’m assuming all of the regulars will be featured in the video section at some point., and it’s about damn time. But lifting someone else’s writeups of the pricing games is a definite no-no that has to be addressed and corrected.

Oh jeez, I look so silly giving myself a plug… lol

“Makes me wonder what we could have had for years if it wasn’t for Barker staying on for far too long. I always felt he was unbelievably overrated.”

No offense, but I believe you’re QUITE in the minority there.

Drew is doing fine. Give him another couple of months to get totally comfortable in the environment and with the procedures involved in the games and he’ll be excellent.

And I agree…priceisright.com is very cool. Lots of good information and fun all in one place.

I’ve seen Drew a few times now (Yay for Fridays off), and I agree that he’s doing a fine job, but it feels like he still needs to work on the timing for the games. When Bob was hosting it never felt like he needed to rush anything, whereas it often feels like Drew is running to keep up with the show and talking fast to make sure everything gets squeezed in. Possibly a by-product of all the fun he’s having. Once that’s all balanced out again, Drew will be a fine host.

As for the website, the descriptions of the pricing games will mention Bob frequently, but not Drew? And the site came out mostly because of the host change? Not smart. But it’s nice to see more content than the old CBS site had.

Drew’s been improving as the episodes move forward. At this point it’s easy to tell which episodes were taped early on and which ones are more recent.

In Re: Joe Capitano: I don’t get to watch very often, but in the two playings of Cliffhangers this season, the correct prices have been$20-$30-$40 - the general guessing pattern if you don’t have a clue. If that isn’t making the games easier, I don’t know what is!

Drew has been great for TPiR. He’s just what the show needed. One problem? “This is Rich Fields speaking for The Price Is Right. A FremantleMedia production.” What the heck man? Where’s the referral to Mark Goodson? I guess MGP has been fully dissolved into Fremantle.

Drew is doing an amazing job on TPIR… I watch it every day on the DVR during my lunch at work. I love how he talks to the people “you walk here huh? Well how about going home in this…”

I love seeing Ten Chances more often now… My favorite game of them all!

I also watched the videos on the TIPR.com site, great place to go online!

Here’s something you might want to post about: ratings figures for Drew’s first week. According to E!, the show saw a 10% increase from the same week last year in the 18-49 demographic (from 1 to 1.1 million), and an 8% increase in the 25-54 demographic. The overall number was consistent with last year at about 5.4 million viewers. Of course, since this is only the first week, a lot of people probably tuned in out of either habit or curiosity, so it remains to be seen whether viewers will stick with the show. But I have faith in Drew.

Am I the only one who thinks this site is absoutely pathetic? The pricing games info was copied off another’s website, and FremantleMedia does not have respect for loyal game show fans by either giving it the C&D or using other websites without permission.

The only thing that bugs the crap out of me with the new PIR site is the use of Comic Sans for the navigation font. I hate that font. Virtually every other web designer I know hates it, too. It’s probably the most overused and abused font in graphic/web design. There are other fun fonts out there that could’ve been used! *nods*

Anyhoo, for the first time in about seven years, TPIR has been appointment TV for me. (Modelgate had a lot to do with me not watching it.) Drew is doing very well (Bob who? ;)) so far, IMO; and he can only get better. I also love that he’s interacting with everyone more. It’s like he’s a fan’s host of this show.

Last, not referencing Mark Goodson Productions at the end now doesn’t bug me, really; my thought was that the mention would retire with Bob.
