“Crosswords” Gets Home Game

The ratings for Crosswords aren’t that great, but it’s getting some support from a major game company. Hasbro has received the license to develop board and DVD games to the fledgling new syndicated game show. Both of which are expected to be out this coming Fall, hopefully when a second season will come out. Hasbro is getting into the game show business even more as they, as previously stated, are partnering with Denbar-Mercury (Family Feud) for the syndicated Trivial Pursuit game show currently being planned.

There should be some form of online game for Crosswords out by now, but it’s been in development longer than I think the rules for the actual show were developed. You can make your own Temptation home game by watching E! and when you can guess what is being talked about currently, reach into your pocket and give yourself $5. You probably have a larger budget than the actual show does already.

While this sounds cool, I still am wondering how they are going to pull off having so many different crossword puzzles in the game without starting to repeat themselves too often. Unless they grab a bunch from the NY Times vault, Crosswords take a long time to write, and then you have to wonder how they’ll implement this into a board game…

Maybe they’ll revive the roll-a-matic machine that all the old Concentration games had, lol. It’d be interesting, to say the least…

Oh, and will they come with Crosswords Getaway tokens???? ;)

I like the idea of the Temptation “home game”…I just don’t suggest giving yourself “lots of love”.

Sounds like a good time… well maybe a PC version. I think the board game version would be too much like… doing a regular crossword puzzle! That just doesn’t seem to be the point - MGC is more of a linear interpretation of the puzzle. Also, I think a DVD type game would be much too tedious, and there’s no good way to do this in a multiple choice fashion (like J!’s new DVD) I do look like seeing support for the show, though! I still think it’s got some kinks to work out for season 2, but I like the changes we’ve seen so far.

Wheelloon: While a lot of love and patience go into creating some of the best crossword puzzles, there are now computer programs that can seriously speed up the time it takes to create puzzles, especially when the puzzles aren’t themed.

Gotta love that Temptation Idea. If you wanted Shopper’s Paradise and Instant Bargains, go find some things around your house. It can be a PS2 for $5, a TV for $25 or a bicycle for $75.

Really Neville? That’s a pretty nifty idea! It makes sense, now that I think about it, given the how many different random combos a computer can do in a minute, it would make sense it could make up an entire crossword with a given set of words and clues.

That would be a big help in something like this. Either way, I planned on going on the hunt for this game when it comes out. While it’s not perfect, MGCW is a nice little time filler that I admit has an entertaining moment every now and then… :)
