Couple Plays for Giant Money on “The Million Pound Drop”
Couples don’t typically make it to the end of the game show The Million Pound Drop, the original British version of Fox’s short-lived Million Dollar Money Drop, with much of their million left. It tends to be around £25,000-£75,000 with a few outliers. This weekend had one of those few exceptions. Contestants Lindsay and Lee reached the seventh of eight questions with a massive £550,000 in play. That’s one of the biggest totals carried through to the end by any couple on any version of the show. Just two questions until they can take it home. They’ll definitely be playing for over £200,000. How much will they play for, though? Watch below to find out.
The British version of Million Pound Drop proves yet again that it’s capable of producing big moments like these that are hard to forget.
I like how the British contestants handle these situations far better than the Americans ever did. Video courtesy Endemol and Channel 4.

That was heartbreaking. I thought they would’ve said New York. Tough loss.
An exciting clip, although I’m sure a lot of us in the U.S. knew the answer.
I thought it was LA! That’s so sad, but I think they do handle that kind of situation well.
My heart dropped as soon as they moved their money over to LA. I was really wishing/hoping they would have switched it.
I saw the Australia version on YT a week ago when the couple had over $600K on the final question. The question was there are more than which color on average in a pack of M&M. They bet it all on yellow but the answer was blue. Very painful.
The Russian one was like that, on the final question. 8 million roubles (they play for 10mil) on the final question, which was on what ear did Michael Tyson bite Evander Holyfield. Guy was very confident, almost cocky. Oh, how his face dropped when it was wrong.
Also, remember the first series in the UK, where a couple lost £525,000 on a very obscure pop-culture question about the Osbournes’ wedding?
When they put the ££ on Los Angeles, I knew they’d lost it. But I was hoping they’d put some of it on New York. But no.
Very painful.
They couldn’t, they always have to leave one drop empty.
They can’t do that, because it would be inconsistent with the rules, which are that they must gamble all their money on every single question, and they must always leave one drop clear. As there are only drops in play, they can’t put money on both. Thus, they either go home with £325,000 or nothing. ;)
It’s especially heartbreaking for me to watch a gay couple lose that much money on the final question. They did have a good run, though. That Question 7 was tough!
Actually, they were brothers. I saw a gay couple on the show back during the first season, but sadly haven’t seen one since.
