Classics Return to Overnight on GSN

After the massive backlash the network got for removing the overnight classics, some people are going to be very very happy. GSN officially announced the return of classics in the overnight starting tonight from 3AM ET to 4AM ET. The two shows you can expect to see are the John Daly edition of What’s My Line? followed by the Garry Moore hosted I’ve Got A Secret. Below are some of the special notable episodes you can expect to see. Relax late at nights, sit back, and enjoy!  I may not be a huge fan of the shows, but it’s a hell of a lot better than reruns of The Amazing Race.

* Jan. 7 – Jayne Mansfield (WML)
* Jan. 9 – Milton Berle (IGAS)
* Jan. 10 – Liberace and Wilt Chamberlain (IGAS)
* Jan. 15 – Warren Beatty (WML) and Jonathan Winters (IGAS)
* Jan. 18 – Danny Kaye (WML)
* Jan. 20 – Ed Sullivan (WML) and Arlene Francis (IGAS)
* Jan. 23 – Frank Sinatra and Mia Farrow (WML)

    I realize that a given percentage of younger viewers look on these old shows as nothing short of “jurassic”- so old the “wince factor” runs rampant. But, like old rock’n roll music, I can make this arguement; if it weren’t for these shows, you wouldn’t have MILLIONAIRE, D.O.N.D., SURVIVOR, or the rest of the lot. If it weren’t for the likes of Mark Goodson, there’d (likely) be no Mark Burnett.

    On the other hand, I know that there are some younger viewers that do get into the old chestnuts; a dear friend of mine has a 21-year-old daughter who at 16, discovered GSN, and became hopelessly hooked on BEAT THE CLOCK.

    In short, to you Millenials (or if you will, the “special generation”)if you don’t like this stuff, don’t watch. Nobody’s forcing you, by putting a gun to your dog or cat’s head. To those who at least respect the history of these shows, I take my hat off to you, one and all!

    I was 12 when I began watching GSN, and they of course had the B&W Sunday Night every Sunday at 10pm at that time in 2001. I would love seeing B&W IGAS. That was probably my favorite B&W show at that time. So it is wonderful to have it back to 7 days a week.

    I too began watching GSN when I was in the 7th grade if my math is right i was either 10 or 11 and I used to freak my mom out from staying up as late as 1:30 for the black & white sunday night which as I recall included: what’s my Line, I’ve Got A Secret, To Tell The Truth, The Price is Right (Cullen) (later changed to beat the clock), Two For The Money (my favorite show from that era) and the game of the week which was often a rarely seen show. It ticked mom off since I’d have to be up at 6:30 to get ready for school. luckily thanks to my xmas gift 2 years ago: a DVR, I no longer have to stay up and I can just watch them the next day.

    I’d like to see other classics aired in the future but those are still some great eps. coming up, remmeber to set your Tivos and DVRs gang.
