Classic Primetime “Password” Added to GSN’s Lineup Mid September

Classic game show fans who miss the old shows late at night are in luck.  The 60′s original primetime edition of Password, with Allen Ludden, comes to GSN in mid September.  Once we get a date we’ll tell you.  This is an edit from a previous post.  Can you tell I don’t watch this stuff?

Uh, Alex… Classic Password has been airing on GSN for a few months now. Unless they've switched out with black and white episodes, I don't think this is anything new.

Um…I would assume that we'd see it in the same slot that the daytime Password is playing right now…3:30 AM.

I am very Happy for that.

    According to this episode guide:
    http://classictvgames.bravehost.com/CBSdaytimepas…
Right now they're showing the third-to-last week of CBS daytime shows, so unless I miss my guess, the B&W eps should start on or about the 20th.

  • Craiggers says:

Well that would be kinda pointless considering that there's already a Password playing at 3:30a. I know they took off Password Plus from the weekday lineup…

  • juliaz12345 says:

…Did you read anything I wrote? I said that it would probably be replacing the daytime Password airing at 3:30 AM once those episodes are over.

But, to be fair, for years, on the weekends, at 9 AM, they used to play B&W nighttime and color daytime episodes back to back. Was one of my favorite things to watch on GSN.

  • Craiggers says:

Well, even if it is replacing the daytime Password airing at 3:30a, there could be another classic game show taking it's place. Maybe the color version if What's My Line? or something…

Well, I think it's easier, and cheaper, to air Password of any sort in that slot than buy a whole other show. I'm assuming that their contract was for every Password version (besides the ABC version…Will that ever see the light of day?). If so, they'd be stupid, financially, to buy the rights to air any other show in that timeslot. Also, it hasn't been too long since they started playing Password in that slot anyways. I think these B&W episodes will fit in very nicely.

  • Craiggers says:

    They still have those episodes?
I wouldn't know because I haven't seen them in ages.
But if GSN does bring back the B&W episodes for the latenight, they'll be making a wise decision…

Re: the ABC run of "Password"

On You Tube there are two full episodes posted; one from October 1971 with Jack Klugman and Brett Somers, (recorded off of GSN) and the series finale from June 1975. There's also a short clip of the opening of the episode from Valentine's Day 1972. Apart from that, you will never see the ABC run of "Password" in any of its three formats. Almost every single master tape of the series was erased by the network and reused for other programming.
