CBS today announced that the first Drew Carey season of The Price is Right will air on October 15th at 11AM ET on CBS. Quoting the press release, “The new season will start out with some exciting wins, as several contestants make some lucky spins on the big Wheel. Others have the chance to win some of the most expensive cars ever given away on the show, as well as trips to exotic locations and more amazing prizes. In addition, the familiar set has been refreshed to give it an updated look while keeping the recognizable PRICE IS RIGHT theme and appearance.”

Recognizable theme? Does CBS not know that most of us insiders know that theme has been redone?

But it’s still the same theme. Redone <> unrecognizeable.

Exactly what Mike said - Redone does not equal unrecognizable.
The theme was simply re-mastered and re-orchestrated in stereo (the original theme was mono). Its the same song.

I’m glad there is finally a date for Season 36. And it’s 2 days after my birthday which is on Saturday October 13th.

I’ve actually heard the theme from being in Studio for 6 tapings - including the Season 36 premiere show to air on October 15. The theme sounds exactly the same - but there’s additional drums and harp sounds added to it. You’ll be able to tell a difference, but overall it’s the same theme so it’s certainly going to be recognizable.

Sweet!
The Date is set, when TPIR enters a new era of excitement!
BTW Voltaire, so, you were there for the Season 36 premiere taping. From what the press release says, it was an exciting show with big things happening game-wise! Without spoiling, can you say this is accurate? As in, were there any BIG wins?

Out of all 6 tapings I attended that week, the Season 36 premiere was BY FAR the best of the bunch. It was an amazing show that I got to be a part of - I’d say the press release is accurate about exciting wins… and some great contestants (Although they forgot to pick me again!).

I’m excited…most of the changes I’ve seen are along the lines of the annual WOF changes…stuff that is minor and needed to be done anyway.
If there was a gripe about the end of Bob’s era it was that things got too traditional aside from a few new PGs (most of which were poorly thought out and very confusing) and things just seemed to be winding down.
The new set design looks like a set that shoulda come out in 2002 instead of the exploded hollywood motif that looked like someone had an acid trip (pair that off with On the Spot and you have LSD nirvana!) and the purple and glitter version of the old setup just smacked of compromise.
My main concern is that while its ok to break drew in gradually that the PG rotation will get too small (not unlike UK versions of the show) and it will get stale fast…or worse…they will get way to reliant on quickies (A MAJOR problem the last 2 years)
they avoid these pitfalls and I think they got a winner…saw power of 10 finally and drew is a kick ass host…he should be fine…he just needs to pace himself and not get over his head, but also work hard to learn a solid 20-25 PG rotation by year’s end. And not just the simple stuff.
Not to beckon spoilers but does anyone know the PGs used during week 1 (no results, just curious what the rotation looks like early on.) Im thinking heavy on the classics but thats just speculation.

Well, at the first day of tapings, someone in the audience asked Drew how many games does he know right now, and he said 8… In fact, only 7 games were used within the 6 tapings that week. The shows are being TAPED out of order, which means that out of the 6 shows I attended, they will all air on different weeks. Knowing the way the shows were taped on the first week - by the time the premiere airs he will know no less than 31 games - and by the time the shows through October are taped (48 episodes - all the way up to Christmas break), he should know more than half of the games, which should be enough to have a decent PG rotation. Also, I don’t expect the show to be heavily reliant on the newer games, except for maybe the cash games like 1/2 Off, or It’s In the Bag. I don’t think it’s a good idea to have Drew try to explain the rules to a game like Stack the Deck or Step Up before learning the more frequently played games like Plinko, Lucky 7, Money Game, and Barker’s Bargain Bar.
I know that the show is heavily reliant on quick games because the show cannot run long and straddle like other game shows. The last thing we want to happen is to have Drew rush through the showcases because Roger decided to play 3 games that take over 6 minutes like Golden Road, Hole in One, and Shell Game. Better to play more quickies and burn extra time at the wheel explaining the rules or explaining the rules in the showcase than to rush through the showcase.

one disagreement…shell game with the possibility for an automatic win doesnt NEED 6 mins to play…bob just drew it out alot because he liked it.
Good news that they are airing out of order and 20-30 games is enough for me…I don’t need crap like Joker or pick a number clogging up the works. That drek should have been gone a while ago to tell the truth.
My issue with too many quickies is the reliance on the SAME quickies while not speeding up games that CAN be quickies but arent (like most expensive or barker’s bargain bar (drew’s discount den, perhaps?) ) there are better quickies than 1 right price and double prices…coming or going helped but they really need to use games like side by side more.
Agree that games like golden road and triple play should be played once in a blue moon if that.
(HERESY WARNING: Actually I always thought they should go to 1 wheel spinning and 5 PGs to get rid of the need to speed up with the new 45 min hour show instead of the old 50 min hour show)

Shell game is actually the 2nd longest timed game on the show - despite it being the same gameplay as Bonus Game, it’s still timed a full minute longer ON AVERAGE with the contestant having to pick the shell to place a chip by after each prize and then the bonus if they get all 4 right. The last few years, there have been some days there were no Small-Prize games because they are generally timed longer than most other games, not to mention Plinko’s popularity that would take away playings from other small prize games - which is why you don’t see games like Pathfinder or 5 Price Tags too often.
Joker and Pick A Number are the reason why we don’t always see the same games every day. However, quickies that aren’t frequently used like Side by Side and Pick A Number are generally that way because they are timed, on average, a bit longer than quickies that are played more often like Double Prices. I know that Double Prices is the quickest game on the show - timed on average of 3 minutes including the Item up For Bid segment, while a game like Side by Side or Pick A Number are timed at 4 minutes - a full minute longer than Double Prices. There’s alot more room to schedule longer games like Golden Road, 3 Strikes, 10 Chances, Temptation, Hole in One, or Line ‘Em Up if they played Double Prices more frequently than longer one prize quickies like Side by Side or Pick A Number. I recall that back in the early 90’s they had Super ball and 3 Strikes in one half of the show once, and that show was about 3 minutes (or a full commercial) over time already, and they barely got through the credits at the end of the show - I don’t think that’s beneficial for Drew to have to rush through the showcase and closing if they’re already over time by a few minutes.
If it were only 1 wheel spinning and 5 PG’s - how would you decide who goes to the showcase? Oh I think I should mention this - at the wheel the first spinner spins right after coming back from commercial - Drew explains the rules while the 1st contestant spins the wheel… this way the rules explanation takes up “dead” time while the first person spins the wheel instead of wasting time explaining the rules before the first spinner. I think that’s a good way to speed up the show and conserve time.
