CBS Picks Up “Do You Trust Me?”

It was announced today that CBS has picked up the psychological game show Do You Trust Me? for six episodes. The new game from Lingo‘s Phil Gurin and hosted by conservative pundit Tucker Carlson sees contestants wager how much they trust each other as they develop relationships in the game. No word on the specific air date or official rules or casting as of yet. But hey, we have another backstabbing game show it seems. I believe I said it before, I’m a big fan of shows like Friend or Foe? and Dirty Rotten Cheater so the more the merrier.

So now we have “Deal or No Deal,”"1 vs. 100,” “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?,” “The Singing Bee,” “The Singing Bee” ripoff on FOX, “The Power of 10,” and this show (I’m not counting “Bingo” since it will most likely be history by the end of June). Not to mention that “Identity” may come back (it says so on the official website), ABC might decide to air “Set for Life,” (Fat chance. But hey, you never know.) and CBS may pick up “Name That Tune.” I love a good game show, “Deal” and “100″ are awesome, and the shows on CBS sound interesting. I just hope all these new shows don’t cause people to get burnt-out on the genre.

Phil Gurin is a pretty competent producer, from what we’ve seen with “Lingo” and others. Unfortunately, his prime time stuff hasn’t had much chance to shine, i.e. “21″ and “Weakest Link”. Both got respectable ratings, but NBC’s never been known to make a lot of sense with their decisions.

As for the show, it sounds interesting, and it doesn’t appear to have the all-or-nothing format of “Friend or Foe”, unless I’m misunderstanding.

I hope I’m not the only GS fan alive that’s watched Do You Trust Your Wife. That would be very sad if it is, considering I’m 22.

The premise for this reminds me of that show right down to the title, so it’s probably less backstabbing than it is cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I saw “DYTYW” too at GameShowTV4u. Did you know that Edgar Bergen isn’t a very good ventriliquist? If you look closely, you can see his mouth move.

I saw the show at that site too, and I agree with both Joe in that I’m wondering if it’s gonna be anything like “Trust Your Wife”, and Greg in that Bergen wasn’t exactly a good ventriliquist. But then, it’s the 50s, they probably weren’t paying that much attention.

  • Greg says:

It was probably because nobody knows whether you’re faking or not when you’re on the radio.
