CBS Orders More Primetime “Price is Right”

CBS tried putting Drew Carey’s Power of 10 on Wednesdays at 8:00PM ET and it failed rather spectacularly.  Drew’s getting a second chance as four new $1,000,000 episodes of The Price is Right have been ordered to start airing April 30th at 8:00PM ET.  The show has been very consistent in winning its time slot Fridays at 8:00PM ET, albeit it has had literally no competition.  Facing Deal or No Deal and Moment of Truth is a tiny bit different than the soon-to-be-glue (and rightfully so) racehorse named Amne$ia.

This is actually going to set up a really interesting game show division.  You’ll have Deal or No Deal with its big-money-flashy game crowd.  You’ll have Moment of Truth with the slightly cynical and human emotion crowd.  And finally you’ll have The Price is Right with the older skewing safety game crowd.  I don’t think it’ll be a big surprise to see Price is Right skewing the oldest, but I’ll be really interested to see what show takes a bigger hit from this schedule change.  I’d expect to see Deal lose more, but I’ve been wrong many times before.

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very exiting.

  • Gene says:

Tell Drew to put some excitement into his hosting and you have a good show

What do you mean?! Drew does put some excitement into his hosting, but he’s not over the top! You want him to be?! (Paging Patrick Wayne :p)

In any event, Great news! If the specials keep doing well, they’ll continue to be a year-to-year staple of CBS Primetime!

I have a bad feeling about this. Somehow I doubt the show will be able to stand up to DoND and MoT. I’d love to be wrong though.

As much as I like “TPIR”, something doesn’t seem right about this. They seem to be overbidding on how many of these primetime shows are being aired. I liked it when they aired the odd special every once in a while, that was enough for me. With having it on this much it will wear out the show in primetime.

I’m thinking this could really give its opponents a run for the money. TPIR scored 2 $1M wins in 5 shows, I think that alone would be enough to attract a crowd and TPIR has so much more varety than DoND and Mot viewers should be more willing to watch TPIR.

Either way this is gonna be a good tight 3-way race, and isn’t ABC running Duel around that time? it could be a 4-way race.

Duel is going in Friday nights, so it’s not in competition in this case.

For me, the choice is Price, hands down, but the renewed interest in Deal or No Deal probably means it will win the day, most certainly among the key demos.

As for Moment of Truth–I don’t get the appeal. I have no objection to the use of the polygraph, but just don’t get why it’s the least bit interesting.
