Challenge Releases Two “Blockbusters” Previews
The return of the classic format Blockbusters is pretty exciting to people both in the United Kingdom and America. Exciting for those in the UK, obviously, because they get a brand new series hosted by Simon Mayo starting May 8th on Challenge. It's exciting for Americans because we'll inevitably be able to watch it somehow (you know you'll see it here) and it's going to be interesting to see if such a classic format can survive today. Challenge has released two promos for the show. Click here to watch them and to read some more thoughts and opinions about the upcoming revival.

The special Publishers Clearing House promotion on The Price is Right has been exciting so far. All week Plinko has been played, and the final chip dropped becomes very special. If the final chip lands in the center slot the contestant will win an increasing jackpot starting at $20,000 and growing by that amount every time it isn't won, courtesy of Publishers Clearing House. It was won on Monday, but, despite some extremely close and exciting finishes, it's stayed out of the center slot since. That means that on Friday's episode, the final chip dropped could net the contestant $80,000. This also means that the day's lucky contestant has up to $120,000 to win. Click here to check out Wednesday's and Thursday's exciting and close games of Plinko and discuss the special event.

There's been a good amount of news regarding The Price is Right recently. April is a big month for them. We have the special Publishers Clearing House Plinko event, where today the jackpot for landing the final chip in the center slot is worth $40,000 (up to $80,000 can be won today). The show brought back an old favorite with a new look yesterday. The classic game "Barker's Bargain Bar" returned as "Bargain Game" on Tuesday's episode. The set got a refreshed look, which is probably one of the more simple set designs they've done since Drew Carey took over. How could we not celebrate Easter, everyone favorite holiday of rabbits and chocolate, with our favorite rabbit-based game show. OK, so that's a pretty exclusive club of one show. Let's celebrate Easter with BBC's surreal 2011 game show Don't Scare the Hare. Don't Scare the Hare can only be described as, "BBC executives took a bong hit before a development meeting and came up with this." Essentially teams of adults played various challenges while trying not to scare an animatronic hare. Not much more to the show. It's really that, and it's as insane as it sounds. This Saturday saw the final episode of BBC's Weakest Link, hosted by Anne Robinson. While the American version didn't last too long, the original British version saw a healthy 12 year run and 1,693 episode run. Anne Robinson decided to hang up the towel and step away from the hosting position late last year, and the show elected to end instead of replacing the, frankly, irreplaceable Queen of Mean. The final episode saw nine of Anne's favorite contestants come back one final time. The episode wasn't that much different from a normal edition beyond the fact that Anne let up a bit and freely laughed, clapped for the contestants, and generally acted a little more sincere and appreciative than normal. Of course that didn't stop her from throwing a few zingers out there, either. Click here to watch some of the final episode. The first few round, in particular, is very funny.

Week in and week out ITV's The Chase continues to be one of the best quiz shows on television in any country, if not the best currntly. The Final Chase, the end game where the team has to answer more questions than the Chaser to win the bank, tends to be incredibly exciting and tense, but this past week in particular had some great ones. Easily the most memorable ever was versus Paul Sinah earlier this week. £28,000 is up for grabs and the entire team of four survived. The team manages to put together one of the biggest targets ever. Will Paul catch them and take away all the cash, or will they win £28,000? You definitely don't want to miss this one. It's a nail-biter and a great starter for anyone who wants to get into the show. It was a big day for Channel 4's Deal or No Deal last night. The long-running Noel Edmonds hosted show won the Royal Television Society award for Best Daytime Programme. The episodes, in particular, that won were this October's live episodes, where unsuspecting people took to the Dream Factory to take £250,000 from The Banker. Deal or No Deal Live beat out BBC2's Antiques Road Trip and BBC1's Operation Hospital Food With James Martin. The show definitely deserves to win. If you saw it, you know why. In our continuing look at backstabbing shows, we couldn't forget one of the most internationally infamous ones, and easily the biggest disaster of the group: Shafted. Some shows like The Bank Job had the prisoner's dilema that didn't really work for the format, but the rest was OK so we can look past it. Nothing seemed to work for Shafted from the start. It looked derivative, it sounded derivative, the format was pretty unfair, the host was bad, and it just wasn't that interesting. So basically nothing worked out. Click here to read about the show and see a big end game for £217,000.

We've got another backstabbing moment on our Ides of March marathon. I've got a soft spot for the ITV game show Golden Balls. I've got no idea why I like the show, but I do. I felt dirty and awkward watching it, but I still enjoyed it. The show dealt out a series of "golden balls", each holding cash up to £75,000 on the inside. Players have to bluff and vote out the people with the lowest money. By the end of the show only two remain and they play Split or Steal for the prize pot. Split or Steal works out exactly like Friend or Foe or Trash or Cash, or any of them. If you thought the Bank Job moment was interesting, wait until you see two people fight over £100,150. We're continuing our look at shows with some element of backstabbing thrown in. I'm an unashamed fan of Game Show Network's old show Friend or Foe?. I thought it was a pretty clever and fun show at the point when the network was taking some risks and doing some edgy, unique shows that are being duplicated constantly now. If you never saw it, it's a very simple show. Kennedy, who we are a big fan of in these parts, asks teams of strangers trivia questions. Lowest score is eliminated and plays the Trust Box to either divide the money or steal it all. Click here to learn more about the show and to see one of our favorite moments from it.
