UK Weekend Replay: Noel Gets the Boot Thumbnail

UK Weekend Replay: Noel Gets the Boot

Since January, Deal or No Deal has been extended from 45 minutes to 60 minutes. Meaning an extra 15 minutes to fit in more banter between Noel and the 22 contestants and more time to see the contestants decide whether to deal the offers or not. An episode shown last month was a classic example where if it was shown last year it would've been on the cutting room floor. As you will see from the clip below. Noel receives a phone call from The Banker where he received a complaint from one of the contestants. What happens next is somethng that doesn't happen on a game show. BuzzerVision UK: Celebrity Chase

The teams on the celebrity editions of The Chase have been doing quite well. The first episode featured Sally Lindsay, Shaun Williamson, Barry McGuigan, and Jenny Frost each winning a £14,000 for charity against Mark Labbett. In episode 2, Nick Hancock and Jenny Eclair took on Anne Hegerty in the Final Chase, but lost with just one second left on the clock. Episode 3 aired this past Saturday, and features John Thomson, Sue Cleaver, Paul Ross, and Carol Vorderman. How did they do? There's only one way to find out...

Shooting Stars Does The Cube Thumbnail

Shooting Stars Does The Cube

To celebrate the return of The Cube this evening, we have a special treat. When game shows become popular, other shows make fun of it. The Cube has seen Harry Hill calling it The Cuboid as it doesn't look like a cube when seen on television. While BBC Radio 1 DJ, Greg James has created The Square. Which even featured a contestant called Philip Schofield. Comedy duo Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer have been running the celebrity quiz Shooting Stars for many years. With the show being off air in the early 2000s. It was brought back in 2009. The latest series featured their take on The Cube where Jake Wood from Eastenders tries to win the star prize. Can he throw a severed head into a bucket? It might sound so simple but nothing is simple in Th

The Chase: Enter The Sinnerman Thumbnail

The Chase: Enter The Sinnerman

ITV's popular daytime quiz show, The Chase ends their fourth series today with the launch of the celebrity version airing on Saturday evenings from tomorrow. The new series introduces a brand new fourth chaser, Paul Sinha. Nicknamed The Sinnerman, he joins the ranks of the original three Chasers. Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace and Anne Hegerty. Like Anne, Paul is more known with his quizzing ability at professional quizzing events than appearing on numerous  television game and quiz shows. In the last few years, Paul appeared on Mastermind and on the second series of Are You an Egghead? where he was defeated in the first round. Although he has passion for quizzing. Paul is also a stand up comedian and regularly performs at the Edinburgh Fri

This Week in UK Game Shows Thumbnail

This Week in UK Game Shows

It has been an eventful seven days over the pond in the UK. This week had the second week of Deal or No Deal live with all games being broadcast live on Channel 4. There have also been straight faces and and high risks The Chase. First we have Sunday's Deal or No Deal Live which featured contestant Kevin. The live shows are played the same as the recorded shows with some differences. The box openers are a mixture of friends and family for that player and former contestants from past shows. With some who played their show as far back as 2006. The live specials also had special guests who opened their box. Namely, McFly's Tom Fletcher and Harry Potter star Oliver Phelps. Since the show is done live, a clock is used to indicate how much tim

UK Weekend Replay: Would I Lie to You? Thumbnail

UK Weekend Replay: Would I Lie to You?

As an added bonus this weekend I deliver you an extra UK Weekend Replay. For those who know about US game shows in general, that the panel show is currently an endangered species. Where there were loads of shows in the 60s, 70s and 80s. There are hardly any panel shows airing on US television in the 21st Century. However, the panel show continues to dominate UK networks with many shows airing on television and radio every week. One panel show currently doing the rounds is BBC One's Would I Lie to You? Created by Endemol, the show features two teams of three celebrities. Both featuring a regular team captain (comedians Lee Mack and David Mitchell from Mitchell & Webb). Hosted by welsh comedian, Rob Brydon. The celebrities read out sta

UK Weekend Replay: High Stakes Thumbnail

UK Weekend Replay: High Stakes

There hasn't been many big money game shows on ITV throughout 2011. Red or Black made the network nearly bankrupt in September and The Cube returned for a third series in the spring. Apart from that, there hasn't been anything else for the member of the public to win life changing amounts. High Stakes is the latest one to join that group. It was reported earlier this year that the show was piloted for ITV and NBC in America. Although there was no sign of the show airing on US shores. ITV decided to comission an eight episode series. The original plan was to air the show on Saturday evenings as the lead in to The X Factor but a decision was made to air the show on Tuesday evenings at 8pm (formally used by Who Wants to be a Millionaire? be

UK Weekend Replay: Million Pound Drop Drama

Channel 4's The Million Pound Drop Live will wrap up their fifth series tonight. Over the course of the last six weekends, it has produced many high scoring payouts with couples winning £200,000 and more. Endemol and Channel 4 have given away more than £1 million throughout this series. More money than the last four series and Christmas specials added together. Today we have two clips from this series. The first clip was taken from 24th September and features comedian Jack Whitehall and his father, Michael Whitehall. Unlike other game shows, celebrity games are always slotted between regular games. The generation pair have reached question eight with a record £300,000. Watch the clip below to see them tackle the final 50/50 question. [st

Weekend Replay: £250,000 on the Line on “Deal or No Deal” Thumbnail

Weekend Replay: £250,000 on the Line on “Deal or No Deal”

I said this with BBC's QI not too long ago and it fits with this as well: few shows go with our sarcastically titled series "The British are Better Than Us" than Channel 4's Deal or No Deal.  It's amazing how they consistently get it right.  This past week featured and incredibly compelling game with contestant Tegen, a cancer survivor.  I could keep discussing it, but it's best if you just watch.  Spoilers are going to be after the break, so be warned.  I had to include her introduction so you can be properly introduced to her.  Click here to watch this exciting game.  You don't want to miss it.

£250,000 Question on Channel 4′s “The Million Pound Drop” Thumbnail

£250,000 Question on Channel 4′s “The Million Pound Drop”

While Fox's version of The Million Pound Drop crashed and burned for a number of reasons, the British version is still living on Channel 4.  Davina Mccall hosts the show where answering eight questions could win you up to £1,000,000 as long as you can hold onto it.  It's rare when couples go for giant money at the end.  Most of the time couples play for around £50,000 to £100,000.  Seeing someone have the chance at £250,000 doesn't come often.  Nick and Katie are playing for the cash.  Only two answers are available and they have to place the entire £250,000 on one single drop zone.  The biggest win to date is £200,000.  Are they about to see £250,000 drop out of hand, or are they going to win £250,000 and be the biggest winners?  Click here to watch and see what happens.

Footage of the New “Family Game Night” Game “Simon Flash”

The Hub debuts the second season of its hit game show Family Game Night on Friday, September 2nd, at 7:00PM ET.  We discussed the show in great detail previously.  The new season features many new games based on popular Hasbro products and pits family against each other in them to win big cash and prizes.  One of the new games this season is called "Simon Flash".  In the game each family member is strapped to a Simon Flash cube which can be any of four colors.  A sequence of colored squares flash up on screen.  The family members must arrange themselves in the order presented to score a point.  First to five points wins the game.  The Hub provided us with an exclusive video clip showcasing the new game.  What do you think?  Click here to watch.

Weekend Replay: “Secret Fortune” Series Two Premiere Thumbnail

Weekend Replay: “Secret Fortune” Series Two Premiere

This was a very busy weekend for British game and competition shows.  The big one, The X Factor, was on ITV this weekend.  As was their version of Family Feud called All Star Family Fortunes.  Then we had the live celebrity Who Wants to be a Millionaire which has lost a ton of its luster since changing production and getting rid of all celebrities.  And finally we had one of my favorites: BBC's lottery quiz show Secret Fortune, which recently shot a pilot for CBS with Donny Osmond hosting.  Secret Fortune was sadly the sacrificial lamb against Simon Cowell and The X Factor, but anyone watching caught a great dramatic episode.  Click here to see what happened on Saturday's Secret Fortune.

The British are Better Than Us: “Only Connect” Series Five; Submit Your Own Connecting Walls

Few shows are more enjoyable, as a whole, to watch than BBC Four's Only Connect.  The show has risen over the course of its five series to a big winner for BBC Four and wide critical acclaim.  It's so enjoyable because it's so different.  You don't see shows so unashamedly intelligent with a sense of sarcasm and the knowledge of its own status.  In a world where, for some idiotic reason, elitism has become a dirty word, it's great to see a show actually require you to know so much.  Simple concept: just connect four seemingly unconnected items.  It's a lot tougher than you'd figure.  If you haven't seen it, check out this clip.  It's a mashup of the first episode.  Click here to see the clip.
