News Flashes: “Fifth Grader” Settlement, “Money Drop” and “The Hub” Preview Episodes

Three small news stories for you this morning. The first million dollar winner on Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? (the Fox network version) has been in a long battle for her money. It looks like there may be a settlement. Then, I've been talking a great deal about The Million Pound/Money Drop over the past few months because I've always had a good feeling about it.  It looks like we've got the next big international format. It's been taken to MIPCOM for international sales. Shine International signed a deal with ABC to take the yet-to-be-aired logic based quiz show, Million Dollar Mind Game to MIPCOM as well. Finally, excited to see The Hub's new game shows Family Game Night and Pictureka after seeing what they look like?  Thanks to reader Travis for a tip on our Twitter page for this bit of news: it looks like you can see a preview of the episodes On Demand. Week One Syndication Ratings: “Millionaire” Up

The ratings for the season debut week of most syndicated game shows, except for Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? are in.  As always the debut week ratings are interesting and a nice way to see the excitement level for a new season, but next week's ratings will be more important.  We'll see what percentage of the audience sticks around.  The two we are most interested in are Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Family Feud which both underwent major transformations this past year.  Millionaire started the year on a positive note. News Flashes: Champions, Losers, and “Shark Tank”

Nothing of any real notice is going on right now but we did manage to find a few small news pieces to touch upon. Everyone was all excited for Jeopardy! champion Roger Craig after winning a record $77,000 in one game.  However, sadly, his journey to become the next Ken Jennings, which many seemed to be really hoping for, came to an end. Then, Don't Forget The Lyrics! debuted this past Monday.According to PIFeedback.com, it's averaged to a .4 rating. Finally, More information on season two of ABC's Shark Tank is coming out.   We get a lot of emails about it, and if you've got an idea you want to present to the sharks, you can click here.  We already discussed Jeff Foxworthy joining the panel for some reason I'm not exactly sure of for three episodes.  They are getting another guest panelist which makes more sense.  Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban will be joining the panel for three episodes. Ionoco Provides Power for the Game Show Market Thumbnail

Ionoco Provides Power for the Game Show Market

I've always been more interested with the production aspects of television more than seeing what goes when you watch it over television.  It's just interesting seeing how everything is put together.  It's nice to see some of these bigger companies getting recognition.  One such company is Ionoco, someone we've talked about briefly before.  They've recently got a big boost from three new American shows. Read on for all the details.

“Fifth Grader” Adds Celebrity Shows; “Baggage” Needs an Audience Thumbnail

“Fifth Grader” Adds Celebrity Shows; “Baggage” Needs an Audience

Two small audience notices for you this morning. Hey, GSN's listening to one of the few complaints we had about their hit dating show Baggage.  The show was incredibly quiet and needed the audience to make some noise and laugh at the contestants to really drive the point of the show home.  Jerry Springer, the host, really needed something to play off of also.  He's incredibly talented and a huge showman.  Luckily GSN is adding an audience for the second season of the show. Also, Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader has been taping its second season which comes out in September. Country bands and popular personalities will appear this season.

“Pyramid” And Fall 2010 Shows Need Audiences Thumbnail

“Pyramid” And Fall 2010 Shows Need Audiences

The Fall 2010 television season isn't too far away and some of your favorite game shows, including new comers, need an audience. These are mostly all Los Angeles based so if you're in that area you're in luck. The news most people are waiting for (and quite a few apparently on verge of a nervous break down to hear about given the comments everywhere) is Pyramid. The audience notice is out now, and you can get tickets here. As we reported a few days ago by us the taping will be for an hour-long show. I just want to make sure to warn those foaming at the mouth...the show hasn't been picked up yet. It's just a pilot. Don't jump to giant conclusions. I heard from multiple people a big reason the last pilot didn't sell was the tone was incredibly different from The Price is Right and they wanted something that was more of a companion show. I don't know what they are specifically looking for this time.

News Flashes: Lyrics, The Hub, and Family Feud

*Twentieth Television's syndicated edition of Don't Forget the Lyrics! is still casting for its first daytime season.  It's been off of Fox's primetime lineup for around a year now.  The top prize will be $100,000; and it's hosted by former Sugar Ray lead singer Mark McGrath, taking over for Let's Make A Deal host Wayne Brady.  Be sure to know all the music you can: from the 50s to current hits.  All you have to be is at least 18 years old.  Have a great, fun personality and love to sing and you've got a shot at being on.  Click here to apply. I'd be expecting it to be a retread of the primetime version, and that's fine by me.  Oh, Fifth Grader was also renewed but we already knew that. *Hasbro's takeover of Discovery Kids, called The Hu

Ratings Report: Everybody’s Down Thumbnail

Ratings Report: Everybody’s Down

Sweeps are over and back-to-normal ratings are coming in.  I feel like mentioning Wheel of Fortune first.  By the way, all the ratings come from the week ending March 14th.  Wheel was only down 1% to a 7.3, and of course it was still the highest rated syndicated show.  The interesting thing is that they really didn't save the big money wins for Sweeps like everyone else tends to do.  They've apparently had a few $100,000 winners in the past week or so.  It's a bit interesting that they didn't put these in the month that really mattered at this time: February sweeps.  But I don't think Wheel really has to worry about that.  Out of all the syndicated shows I don't think they need much help getting anyone.  Jeopardy!, Wheel's very exclamatory

Better Than Us: “Are You Smarter Than Your Ten Year Old?” Thumbnail

Better Than Us: “Are You Smarter Than Your Ten Year Old?”

Time to bring back some more of our look into international game shows: Better Than Us.  We're going to England for this one.  You all know by now the big hit that Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? has become.  It's obviously been exported around the globe.  It's airing currently in England on Sky, and hosted by the always fantastic Noel Edmonds, who also hosts Deal or No Deal.  Over in England it airs under the title Are You Smarter Than a Ten Year Old? because they don't have the same grading system we do.  This season the show has changed a bit and has become the far more interesting Are You Smarter Than Your Ten Year Old? and it's a change that would be great to see in America. Instead of having a cast of ten year olds preselected

Ratings Report: “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel” Increase Thumbnail

Ratings Report: “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel” Increase

Time for some more ratings.  Nothing that big so I'll keep it brief for a change.  Check out all the results by clicking here for the full listings. Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! are the only shows to increase ratings for the week ending February 28th.  It's the final week of sweeps also.  It's very important for each show to bring in those advertising dollars around now.  Wheel went up 3% to a 7.4.  Overall during sweeps, which got a little screwed up because of the Olympics, the show was down just 2%.  Jeopardy! was also up 3% and saw a 6.4 rating.  Jeopardy! actually broke even during sweeps period and appears to be the only show that really has, so good job for it. Who Wants to be a Millionaire sank 4% to 2.6.  It was down only 4% a
