Ratings Report: “Millionaire” Hits High; “Who’s Still Standing” Exits

We've got some ratings and viewership figures to share with you this morning.  In addition to syndication we also have some broadcast network numbers, plus international figures which will probably depress you a bit. Let's start with the positives, though.  With the meteoric rise of Family Feud, Who Wants to be a Millionaire has accidentally been pushed to the side for a bit.  However, they had some great news for the week ending January 22nd. It was actually good news for all the syndicated shows. Next, NBC's Who's Still Standing? didn't end its series with a bang, but it managed to somehow maintain its audience week in and week out despite some major problems. And finally, get ready to be depressed about the viewing figures for ITV's intense quiz show The Exit List. It's not looking good. Click here for the full run through of all the ratings.

Top Ten Moments of 2011: Number Two (With Guest Blog from Executive Producer Gaby Johnston) Thumbnail

Top Ten Moments of 2011: Number Two (With Guest Blog from Executive Producer Gaby Johnston)

We're in the final stage of the Top of 2011 countdown.  The last three were very close, but this edged out Roger Craig's Jeopardy! experience.  It's always a tough choice when a show makes a big change in tone and cast.  Sometimes it ends up well.  Look at how Match Game shifted to the comedy game it became.  Other times it's just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.  I don't think a large shift in feel has ever worked out the way it has for Family Feud, though.  Click here to read what you voted as number two, and to read a guest blog post from executive producer Gaby Johnston.

Ratings Report: “Fear Factor” Debuts Strong; “You Deserve It” Continues to Drop

We've got a few network game shows on television for the first time in a while so we've got an interesting ratings report.  NBC debuted the newest season of Fear Factor after a five year break.  It picked off right where it left off in terms of success. It's not all good for game shows, though.  ABC's charity based quiz show You Deserve It inexplicably drop again. Syndication perked up for nearly all for the week ending December 4th. Click here to learn about all the ratings and what they mean.

Ratings Report: “Family Feud” Near Doubles Year-to-Date; “You Deserve It” Slides

November sweeps is over.  The period is historically very important for syndicated shows for the ad buying process.  All game shows came out ahead.  Who came out the best, though?  Far and away the biggest winner is Family Feud. Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and Who Wants to be a Millionaire also all saw increases year to date. Really the only bad news is for ABC's You Deserve It, which is just not having a good run. If you're a fan of the show I'd watch it while you can. No show can last with these ratings. Click here to read all the ratings and tell us what you think.

All hail Steve Harvey.  The long running game show Family Feud has gone under a large revitilization since the installation of host Steve Harvey.  As a result, the show has been renewed in 75% of the country (so far) through 2015.  Since Steve joined the show, Family Feud has increased its ratings by 35% in total households and 40% in the key demographic of women 25-54.  This season saw many stations upgrade the show to a prime slot between 5PM and 8PM, a vast improvement from the often past-midnight slots many markets saw before Steve.  The show will go HD starting next season.  Family Feud in its current incarnation has been on the air since 1999.  Click here to read more plus to see a clip of the show.

NBA Star Chris Paul to Appear on “Family Feud”

Whenever we hear about celebrities on game shows we get a little nervous.  However, this one is actually great.  New Orleans Hornets star point guard Chris Paul is keeping busy during the NBA lockout and is set to appear on the popular syndicated game show Family Feud hosted by Steve Harvey.  He wasn't sought after by the producers, though.  Paul auditioned for the show with his family like any other family, the producers selected him and his group, and you'll be seeing him behind the Face Off podium soon.  Chris Paul's family is set to appear on Tuesday, November 1st.  Check your local listings for times.  Paul could win up to $100,000 and a new car for charity.  Click here to see a new blooper from the show.

Weekend Replay: “Family Feud” With Double-D Thumbnail

Weekend Replay: “Family Feud” With Double-D

This is slightly old but I've never seen it before.  There's football and hockey all weekend.  Let's continue the guy weekend by having a clip from Family Feud for the guys.  As we said in our last post, it's usually the most innocent looking people who say the most outrageous things on Feud with Steve Harvey.  But what if you aren't sure if you can come up with a good answer.  Contestant Carly has an idea. It's pretty clear why her nickname is Double-D.  You'll want to have your mouse positioned at 0:36 probably.  Another funny clip. Click here to check it out.

“Family Feud”: Pastor’s Wife Gives Us a Spit-Take Thumbnail

“Family Feud”: Pastor’s Wife Gives Us a Spit-Take

Family Feud has given us another moment which I have a feeling will become a viral hit.  Have you ever noticed that it's always the most innocent looking people that give the answers that make your jaw drop?  It's happened quite a bit over the years, and Feud has just produced another.  Here's seemingly innocent Magen, a pastor's wife.  The question is simple: name something you put in your mouth but don't swallow.  Yes, there are some obvious dirty answers.  I don't think anyone ever expected Magen to say what she did.  The moment is hysterical, as is Steve's dance when the answer is revealed.  You aren't going to want to miss this moment.  As I've said for over a year: Steve Harvey is the best thing that has happened to Family Feud in decades.  Click here to watch this hysterical and unbelievable moment.

“Family Feud” Debuts New Season Today Thumbnail

“Family Feud” Debuts New Season Today

Get set: Family Feud is back for another season.  Steve Harvey returns as host after increasing ratings by over 30% from his previous season and jumping the show to third place, only behind Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!.  What should you expect this season?  More of the same comedy that literally brought hundreds of thousands more viewers to the show for starters.  Look for the audience to have a slightly different vibe as well.  The change from the Los Angeles to Orlando audience last season was noticeable.  Let's see how it goes with Atlanta audiences.  Beyond that, the show's working better than it ever has in this current version of Feud, so why mess with it?  The show's posted two previews of the upcoming season.  Check them out.  What did you think of the season debut? Click here and let us know.

Pictures from the Set of “Family Feud”; Favorite Moment from Steve’s First Season? Thumbnail

Pictures from the Set of “Family Feud”; Favorite Moment from Steve’s First Season?

We're continuing highlighting all of this Fall's upcoming season premieres.  Family Feud kicks off with a new season on September 12th.  Though this current version of Feud has been going on since 1999 this is host Steve Harvey's second season.  In the first season alone he skyrocketed ratings and brought an entirely new comedic feel to the show.  Few game shows have been set up for social networking like Feud.  Over the past year the Facebook game and YouTube page have brought massive awareness to the once-stagnant franchise.  And beyond that, when is the last time you heard about a host switch for a game show working this well?  I can't think of another instance.  Click here to see some pictures of the set and tell us your favorite moment from Steve's first season.

Fall 2011 Game Show Season Debut Dates

We've got some cool features on The Hub's Family Game Night and Scrabble Showdown coming soon.  However, when discussing some things with readers on Twitter this morning, I got a lot of questions regarding when your favorite game shows would be debuting.  The usual debut month is September, and with that quickly approaching I thought having a run down of the new debut dates and what to expect would be smart.  Click here to read about all the debut dates.
