BuzzerUK: Has The Cube Become Harder to Win?

The BAFTA award winning The Cube has reached the half way stage of their fourth series come tomorrow evening. Many viewers and fans have noticed throughout the current series that not many people are winning the higher amounts of money. With nearly every contestest losing a few lives early on in their quest to win £250,000. So we're asking. Has The Cube become harder to win? Looking throughout the first three series we see there is a pattern. The majority of games used for the first level (£1,000) were designed to ease the player into the game with nearly every single contestant beating the first game without losing any lives or losing a couple. Some of these games include. Time Freeze (counting to 10 seconds in your head), Calcuate (cou

Weekend Replay: Whose Line is it Anyway? Live Thumbnail

Weekend Replay: Whose Line is it Anyway? Live

Last weekend saw Little Britain comedian, David Walliams attempt a 24 hour live marathon of appearing on panel/game shows, called 24 Hour Panel People. This was a fundraising attempt for Comic Relief as a build up for Red Nose Day this coming Friday (a UK telephon done every two years). Nearly 20 shows were produced and shown live via a web stream on the internet. The shows ranged from current ones such as Would I Lie to You? and 8 Out of 10 Cats to old favourites like What's My Line?, Blankety Blank and The Generation Game. For David's penultimate show, he was a member of the panel on the Channel 4/ABC improv comedy show, Whose Line is it Anyway? For nearly 13 shows, the original UK show came back on air early Sunday morning with Clive And

The British are Better Than Us: Tense “Deal or No Deal” Ending Thumbnail

The British are Better Than Us: Tense “Deal or No Deal” Ending

It's been discussed often how and why the British version of Deal or No Deal trumps the American version in practically every way, shape, and form.  We haven't featured it in a while and I've been looking at some recent episodes and found a great one.  Our contestant turned down an offer of £24,000 and after her most recent round she was left with a board containing 1p, £5, £250, £75,000, and £250,000.  What will her next offer be and, better yet, can she go all the way to a massive payday?  Or will she be the newest 1p winner?  Check out the video.  It's incredibly exciting and tense. The video is after the break.

The Cube Returns Thumbnail

The Cube Returns

British television listings have confirmed the second series of ITV's hit show, The Cube returns for their second series on Sunday 19th September, at 6.45pm on ITV1 and ITVHD. For those who don't know, The Cube features contestants who could win up to £250,000 by completing, simple but complex games inside a large persplex cube. The games can be anything, such as counting up to 10 seconds in your head, bouncing a ball into a container, walking in a straight line while blindfolded and counting red squares on the floor. The second series will once again be fronted by former Winning Lines and current This Morning host, Phillip Schofield. The new series will feature a mixture of brand new games and previous games from the first series. The e

News Flashes: “Downfall” Debut, “Wheel” and “Jeopardy!” Renewed

I've got a few pieces of news for you today. *ABC's got some games for you this summer.  The annual summer hit Wipeout, one of my favorites, returns soon.  The new season begins June 1st with a special two-hour sneak preview show starting at 8:00PM ET.  That episode is a special Wipeout Blind Date edition.  Twelve single guys and ladies will be put together, and their first date will be on the wet and muddy (and painful) obstacle course.  The winners get $100,000.  New obstacles are being added this season, including things like Overdrive, Bruise Ball and Spin Cycle.  Other themed episodes like "Ladies Night" and "Family Edition" will be featured.  This new season expands greatly upon the previous ones with bigger, badder challenges.  Th

“Minute to Win It” Renewed

More of an actual post when I get back to my office but NBC's Minute to Win It has been renewed. The ratings have been tepid at best so it's a bit shocking it got picked up despite it's cheapness. More coming in soon.

Big Clarification about Big Saturday Night

I just wanted to correct and clear somethig about GSN and their Big Saturday Night. Ross Matthews isn't host just a featured performer. Also my negative comments weren't really about the whole thing. It's more about 20q. Don't get the wrong idea. Big Saturday Night sounds fun. My only fear is stretching a 60 minute show to 90 minutes for this. But this does sound like a fun thing. I just wanted to clarify.

November Sweeps: “Supermarket Sweep”

Alex and I had a conversation the other day, and he came up with a great idea: A BuzzerBlog November Sweeps.  In this Sweeps period, each of the writers will post a clip of his favorite game show on some weekend during November.  I immediately thought, "What better way is there to start a Sweeps than with a Supermarket Sweep?"  So, here's a Big Sweep to start Buzzerblog's November Sweeps 2008.

New “Family Feud” Mobile Game Thumbnail

New “Family Feud” Mobile Game

Everyone else is jumping on the bandwagon.  Why not Family Feud?  The long-running game show, currently hosted by John O'Hurley (check local listings) today launched a new phone game from Glu, and available right now in North America.  Feud is the first title distributed under Glu and Fremantle Media's partnership.  If you want to grab it, just go to either Glu.com or visit the Family Feud official website which is apparently a lost cause to be remotely updated to what the show looks like after the past three years.  That site reminded me how awful the block version of the Feud logo was. There's an online version of the game you can play, and it seems pretty accurate.  The graphics are what you'd expect, the gameplay works.  The gameplay
