Who Dares Wins: Mega List Thumbnail

Who Dares Wins: Mega List

Those will remember a fortnight ago I showed how Who Dares Wins champions, Nat & Euan secure their seventh win and winning £155,000 in total, the second highest win on the show. They returned last week to face their eighth set of challengers, Abby and Gareth. The challengers won the first list by naming Sylvester Stallone films and needed to win the next list to become the new champions and knock Nat & Euan off their throne. What you will see in the clip below is something that has never been achived in any version of The Rich List in the world. Many lenghty lists contestants have tackled are usually in the low 20s but given the topic of the list has over 100 names and being under pressure in the studio. What you will see takes it t

Who Dares Wins: Agony and Ecstasy Thumbnail

Who Dares Wins: Agony and Ecstasy

Whilst the UK viewing public was watching the final of Britain's Got Talent last night (which produced a shock result). Last night's edition of Who Dares Wins produced a very tense and extraordinary show. The current champions, Nat and Euan have won their sixth match (first match of last night) but failed to bank anything on the money list but their combined winnings from their previous five wins currently stands at £105,000. They face a seventh pair of challengers but they already won the first list by naming eleven characters from the TV show Friends. What you will see next is something rarely done on the show. Possibly, the first time it has been performed on the UK version. Check out the clip below before scrolling down to see the comme

UK Weekend Replay: Who Dares Wins Thumbnail

UK Weekend Replay: Who Dares Wins

Another Weekend Replay for you this weekend. This time we're featuring the UK quiz, Who Dares Wins. The title is more common around the world under the original title The Rich List or the GSN show, The Money List. For those who don't know. Who Dares Wins features two pairs of strangers who try to outbid each other by completing lists from countries in Asia to Matt Damon films. Unlike other quiz and game shows. Who Dares Wins has no limit on the number of times a pair can become champion. Therefore the sky is the limit with their winnings. The UK version returned last Saturday for their fourth series. The clip we have for you is from tonight's (Saturday) show where the current champions, Adam and Dawn have just won their fourth consecutiv

Tune In: Finale of “20Q” and “The Money List” Tonight Thumbnail

Tune In: Finale of “20Q” and “The Money List” Tonight

Endemol was nice enough to remind me about the very entertaining show 20Q tonight.  Sadly it's the "season" finale so if you're a fan of the quiz show hosted by Cat Deeley, it's most likely your last chance for a new episode.  I've seen the ratings for it and for what I have to believe is due to a pretty bad scheduling and programming decision, I'm regretfully doubting it'll be coming back.  It's sort of a shame.  I spent so much time under the assumption, just from the pilot, that it sucked.  Then the series rolls around and it ends up much better than I ever anticipated.  I mean I don't know if they are going to try to shop it around to other networks or anything, but I'd really like to see them try.  The season finale is tonight at 8:00P

GSN Changes “Big Saturday Night” Again. Why Did it Go So Horribly Wrong? Thumbnail

GSN Changes “Big Saturday Night” Again. Why Did it Go So Horribly Wrong?

We'll update the PDFs later this afternoon but yet again GSN is changing the Big Saturday Night schedule and reworking the show.  I can't even fully remember how many times this has been.  This has to have been the fourth or fifth change to the program.  They are essentially waving the white flag.  20Q will air at 8:00PM ET yet again, in its original hour-long state.  Now Deal or No Deal will be pushed into the 9:00PM ET slot.  Poor poor Money List takes up the 10:00PM ET hour.  No BSN segments will air here apparently.  BSN actually starts as a half-hour program at 11:00PM ET.  It's followed by The Newlywed Game, which will very likely get better ratings, at 11:30PM ET. So, as the title said, why did it go so horribly wrong?  I think it

“The Money List” and “20Q” Flip on GSN’s Big Saturday Night Schedule Thumbnail

“The Money List” and “20Q” Flip on GSN’s Big Saturday Night Schedule

I haven't heard anything ratings-wise from GSN's Big Saturday Night since the debut, but given the updates to the BSN format, the fact that it's revamping in a few weeks, and now this schedule change, I assume it's not doing all that well.  Starting this week, July 18th, 20Q and The Money List will be flipping spots on the schedule.  This means The Money List will be featured at 8:00PM ET and 20Q at 9:30PM ET.  All the weekday repeats are gone now as well..  Every weekday at midnight will resume to be the Regis Philbin edition of Who Wants to be a Millionaire and weekdays from 8:00PM ET to 10:00PM ET will yet again be Richard Karn's Family Feud, Meredith Vieira's Millionaire, John O'Hurley's Feud, and another Vieira Millionaire. So needl

An Interview with “The Money List”‘s Fred Roggin Thumbnail

An Interview with “The Money List”‘s Fred Roggin

If you're a regular reader of the site, you know I've had nothing but good things to say about Fred Roggin from day one of his hosting job on GSN Live.  Then I get very excited when it's announced GSN is reviving the one-and-done FOX game show The Rich List now called The Money List.  And then even more excitement is added once I find out the host is indeed Fred Roggin.  Fred's really great at what he does and very entertaining to watch.  The Money List is a great game show vehicle for me, and I was very happy to get the chance to talk to him about the new show.  Take a listen by clicking the link below and hear about the long long history of the show at the network, what he liked most about his experience, and the connection between sports

Fred Roggin Talks About “The Money List”

I'm a big fan of the new game show The Money List debuting June 13th, Saturday, at 9:30PM ET on GSN.  I hope I can make you a little more excited for the show by giving you some video footage.  Tomorrow we'll have clips of the show as well as an interview with host Fred Roggin.  For now, here's a brief video interview with him discussing what he loves about the show so much. Keegan-Michael Key Hosts GSN’s Big Saturday Night; Awards Show Loses a Rerun Thumbnail

Keegan-Michael Key Hosts GSN’s Big Saturday Night; Awards Show Loses a Rerun

Two bits of GSN news for you.  First off, it has been announced that former MadTV cast member will be the host of GSN's Big Saturday Night, a three hour block of two original shows including live performances and gaming which can award in-studio and at-home players cash (of up to $5,000) and prizes over the next nine weeks.  There will be two correspondents for the show: Ross Matthews (Ross the Intern from Jay Leno's former Tonight Show) and Charissa Thompson (FOX Sports correspondent).  The two new shows, again, are 20Q and the very fun Money List.  Each show will run for 90 minutes because of added filler with the entire block but will be run in its normal one hour format in reruns. GSN is looking for people in the LA area to be at the

“The Money List” is a Big Winner for GSN’s Big Saturday Night Thumbnail

“The Money List” is a Big Winner for GSN’s Big Saturday Night

Back in August a British audience casting website listed information for new episodes of a game show called Who Dares Wins, which in America is better known as the quickly canceled FOX quizzer The Rich List. Luckily we have fantastic readers from England who went to the taping and found out it was a GSN revival called The Money List taping on the British set. Ten months later, the show is set to debut. On June 13th at 9:30PM ET, after nearly a year of waiting, The Money List, hosted by Fred Roggin, is part of GSN's Big Saturday Night promotion, following 20Q. I'm a fan of some of GSN's new programming like Catch 21 and Newlywed Game but nothing has really been appointment viewing on the network since Grand Slam. I'm glad there's finally a show I can get fully behind again. If you know the FOX version, your opinion will most likely generate from your liking or hatred of the one episode that network aired. The GSN version is the same, just using the British money chain. Two teams, comprised of strangers, bet how many items in a list they can name. Lists can be anywhere from "Mariah Carey Hits" to "Female Grand Slam Tennis Champions" to "European Capitals". A challenged team must fulfill the bet they placed to claim the list, and if they don't the other team gets it. The first team to claim two lists plays "The Money List", where they have to name up to fifteen items in a category. They can stop after every three and take the money they earned, but getting all fifteen earns the team $50,000. Any money won on a Money List is theirs to keep no matter what and best of all, they get to return the next game and keep winning. There's no limit to the amount that can be won. I can't tell you how nice it is to see a big money quiz show on GSN again that's not some special event. It's been so long. It really has been since Russian Roulette or WinTuition around 2002-2003, hasn't it? There hasn't been a show which actually demands anything of higher than basic intelligence since Grand Slam a few years back so it was such a relief to see a mix of basic pop culture as well as actual academic trivia. $50,000 for winning the end game is fine. I'm overjoyed that GSN kept the returning champions rule. It's something they do unbelievably rarely and it really adds a lot to this show. There's a good chance you'll be seeing some six figure winning teams here. It's so refreshing to see GSN throw money at a format. It doesn't happen that often and it makes a world of difference. The main issue I had with the FOX version was how drawn out it was. It's why I'm glad to see the show have two full games, including two Money Lists, each show. In the screener copy I was sent, the pause between answers really didn't seem like it took more than ten or fifteen seconds. The show still is drawn out in a few awkward places, like in the middle of a list when it's clear a team is going to win, but I'll take that if it means I don't have to sit through a minute of agonizing thought for something that's not brutally hard.  The only issue I really have with the show is the dragging-out, though.  It's blatantly clear they could fit a lot of games in if they cut out a lot of the stalling.  They really could fit another game in there most likely.  However, this is such a part of modern game shows that I've given up fighting it.  As long as it's not painfully drawn out I'm fine. GSN’s Big Saturday Night, starting June 13th, is a Big Mixed Bag Thumbnail

GSN’s Big Saturday Night, starting June 13th, is a Big Mixed Bag

One of GSN's new marketing initiatives is the all new Big Saturday Nights, starting June 13th at 8:00PM ET.  Hosted by Ross Matthews (Ross the Intern from Jay Leno's Tonight Show), over the nine weekends people at home and in studio can play games to win cash and prizes.  Up to $1,000,000 over those nine weeks will be given away.  So don't go there expecting to win a million like some of the casting notices I've read make it seem.  That's the total that can be given away over the course of the event.  Live music and comedy will be tossed in.  Essentially, it's a three hour GSN Live with extra additions and, frankly, a more annoying host.  This also stretches each of the 60 minute shows to 90 minutes so I hope you like things dragged out. That's one part of the mixed bag.  Let's go to a positive, first.  The show GSN should be promoting like crazy (which isn't happening as much as far as I can tell) is The Money List hosted by one of my favorites, Fred Roggin.  It's a revival of the FOX game show The Rich List. This version knocks the prize to $50,000, but that's still a lot.  In the show, two teams of strangers face off against each other betting on how many items from a list they can name.  The first team to win two lists plays The Money List, naming up to 15 items in a category for up to $50,000.  The best part is that there are returning champions so there's no limit to how much you can win.  I know some people who went to some tapings.  Be expecting some very large winners.  This version is quicker than the original FOX version, fitting in two full games each hour, is better hosted, and just plays better to me.  I was a fan of the original version, though.  Your mileage may vary.  The Money List debuts June 13th at 9:30PM ET. I skipped the 8:00PM ET show for now because it's the other part of the mixed bag.  The other show is 2oQ, which is, shockingly, hosted by Cat Deeley after all!  Who would have thought!  Hal Sparks is the voice of the computer, Mr. Q, so apparently we'll have a wise cracking computer there.  We weren't allowed on the set at the last second for issues too, for lack of better words, confusing and annoying, to get in to right now, but we got reports back from audience members about the show.  If you follow the site you know that we found out about the syndicated pilot hosted by Joey Lawrence and ripped it apart because it deserved to be.  It flat out sucked.  I was hoping for something better.  As far as I've heard, it's not that much improved. Essentially the show boils down to rows of contestants being placed into the audience.  One row is randomly selected at a time.  They play a game of 20Q, where you have to guess what a person, place, or thing is from up to 20 questions, and the first person to buzz in and guess wins $5,000 and goes on stage for the main game.  So yes, you're basically being given $5,000 for being randomly picked.  This happens a few times.  The bonus game is basically playing the handheld 20Q game for up to $20,000.  Two things bug me with this.  1: This show has potential but it boils down to playing the handheld game for different amounts of money.  Are you telling me nothing more fun or inventive couldn't have been done?  2: It seems really pathetic to me that you can win more on the daily game shows like Catch 21 and Bingo America, like double or triple more, than you can on one of their once-a-week shows.  Not to mention I heard basically the entire production of the show has malfunctions happening constantly.  We'll talk more about it in about two weeks.  My hopes weren't high from the start, but when I heard they were restructuring the show I had some level of anticipation.  This is really just not working. The bad part is I see  20Q headlined far above The Money List always, and that shoul

GSN Schedule Changes; “Deal or No Deal” and “1 VS 100″ Get Debut Dates Thumbnail

GSN Schedule Changes; “Deal or No Deal” and “1 VS 100″ Get Debut Dates

We've got lots of exciting GSN schedule changes coming up for you.  First, let's talk about the awards.  As we said before, the 2009 GSN Game Show Awards will debut on June 6th at 8:00PM ET and air through 10:30PM ET.  Rerun times are varied.  First you can watch a full rerun directly following the awards at 10:30PM ET.  A special two hour edition of the awards show, without the red carpet and winner interviews, airs on June 7th at 4:00PM ET.  Now onto the big news. Yes, as we reported before, Deal or No Deal and 1 VS 100 will be on the GSN schedule in June.  You can see Deal or No Deal Monday through Friday at 7:00PM ET starting June 1st replacing Lingo and Pyramid.  It will rerun weekdays at 11:00PM ET replacing Lingo, Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00PM ET replacing Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, and 8:00PM ET on Saturdays replacing Family Feud.  I haven't seen the first episodes of Deal or No Deal in ages, and those early shows were miles better than the later ones, so this is a nice change. The one I'm most excited for, and I have a feeling a lot of you are excited for as well, is the return of 1 VS 100.  Not a lot of episodes exist but GSN scheduled it nicely.  1 VS 100, NBC's hit quiz show, will air Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00PM ET starting on June 6th replacing Lingo, 6:00PM ET on Saturdays replacing Pyramid, and Saturdays at 2:00AM ET replacing Dog Eat Dog.  Any 1 VS 100 is such a welcome addition. There's some daytime shuffling here as well.   Whammy! will air weekdays at 11:00AM ET starting June 1st replacing Let's Make A Deal which is apparently now under Fremantle's control.  Pyramid will replace The Weakest Link at 4:00PM ET weekdays, and the syndicated version of Millionaire will air weekends at noon replacing Let's Make A Deal. We're still not done, believe it or not.  Saturdays get a major redo starting June 13th.  The new show 2oQ, which hasn't gotten any good word from literally every single person who audioned that got back to me , will debut June 13th at 8:00PM ET.  It's an hour long show stretched to an hour and a half because of GSN's Big Saturday Nights.  Again, the initial buzz isn't good for the show but we never know until we see it.  The Money List which taped nearly a year ago starts the same night from 9:30PM ET to 11:00PM ET, again because of stretching for the special evening.  This is really long-awaited and I couldn't be more excited to see it show up.  Starting Sunday June 14th, 2oQ will run for just its hour at 4:00PM ET, The Newlywed Game and Catch 21 air at 4:00PM ET, and The Money List at 5:00PM ET.  Not only that we've got a Father's Day marathon of Super Password on Sunday, June 21st, from 9:00AM ET to 1:00PM ET.  I know this is a huge amount to digest so we've got a picture of all the changes all scheduled out for you, after the break.  (more...)

A Preview of “The Money List”, Sort Of

Lots of GSN videos coming in today.  But I first want to promote The Money List partially because I don't firmly understand what the wait for the show is and partially because GSN fixed most of the major issues with the FOX version.  It's nice to have a fast paced big money quiz show on GSN again.  It's been way too long.  Fred Roggin, from GSN Live, is the host of the show which taped in England in August.  I've been a fan of Fred's for a long time so I can't wait to see how it goes here.  I haven't talked to a single person who has a negative thing about this new version.  Audience members and others that have seen the show in some way, whether employed by the show or not, have said it's a very good quiz show.  Here's a look at what our version is going to be.  It's the British version. Coming up a bit later today is a video interview with Michael Davies about GSN's revival of The Newlywed Game. (more...)
