April Fool’s Jokes

Trebek bearing a mustache We had April Fool’s jokes a-plenty this year, the most in this decade for sure.

Jeopardy: Alex Trebek came out with a mustache.  I prefer the real one.

Wheel of Fortune: It’s kinda been spoiled on YouTube already, but here it is:

The Price is Right: The first April Fool’s showcase in as much as 25 years:

New Show Opinions

Instead of creating a different post for each show, let’s just do it all in one.

In case you aren’t aware, every game show under the sun starts a new season today.  Wheel of Fortune begins its 25th year celebration, Jeopardy! starts a new one, Family Feud gets a new, nice logo with the same fantastic host of John O’Hurley, Who Wants to be a Millionaire? begins its sixth season on its way to its thousanth show, and finally we have the debut of Crosswords (which is quite good) and Temptation (which isn’t quite good to me).  Don’t forget tomorrow GSN will start a brand new US season of That’s The Question with a nice set and actual writers!  That makes it exponentially better off the bat.  What did you think about all the new shows, changes, and such?  Mainly, what did you think of Crosswords

Merv Griiffin Hospitalized

Merv Griffin, 82, has been hospitalized for a recurrence of prostate cancer, a spokeswoman said Wednesday. He was being treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for cancer discovered during a routine examination a few weeks ago, said Marcia Newberger, spokeswoman for The Griffin Group/Merv Griffin Entertainment. Merv Griffin is the creator of hit games shows such as Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!. He’s also had some not game shows that you probably wouldn’t consider hits such as Monopoly and everyone’s favorite Ruckus. He is also the mastermind behind the upcoming game show appropriately titled Merv Griffin’s Crosswords. We can only hope Merv makes it through this.

DVD Game Releases and Updates Galore

Five new DVD game updates for you. First, we have received word that the Press Your Luck DVD game can now be found at local s Blockbuster stores. A quick check reveals that it’s also available at Amazon for $19.95, a savings of four cents off the original price. Whoopee.

While peeking around at Amazon, we also found information on these next four games:

A big surprise on this one: the Family Feud 3rd Edition DVD is OUT!!! It’s available at Amazon for $19.99, and, surprisingly, the ONLY change on the box art from the previous two editions is that O’Hurley’s on there now. Whoop-dee-doo.

Two other DVD games coming out in July include Jeopardy and Who Wants to Be A Millionaire, selling for $49.99 and $23.99, respectively. Both are set to be released in early July, according to Amazon.

And the final game, of which we have no idea when it will be released, is the 1 vs. 100 DVD. This one can be preordered for $19.99 at Amazon. It will be made by Mattel, so we’re expecting something as good, if not better, than the tabletop game.

I want to encourage you, if you do see PYL or Feud somewhere, please let us know by commenting.  I will also try my best to check a few stores tomorrow, and report back on any findings.

The Answer Is…. A Daily Challenge

Next Monday, June 4th, Jeopardy is debuting the Jeopardy! Correct entries will then be put into a sweepstakes for a daily $100 prize or a grand prize of $25,000. A new challenge will be posted every weekday through July 13.

Syndication Debut Dates

Temptation logoA good majority of the syndication debut dates for the new and returning game shows were released today, thanks to Mark Berman. Here are the shows debuting on Monday, September 10th:

Let’s Play Crosswords
Temptation
Wheel of Fortune
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

Noticeably missing are Jeopardy! and Family Feud. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune generally debut on the same day, so I’d expect September 10th for that as well. However, for Feud, your guess is as good as mine. To my best knowledge there has been no 100% confirmation of renewal, although we are receiving rumors that they are looking at new places to tape next season, so don’t be completely surprised for a renewal there. We still don’t know a single thing about Crosswords, though, which is a bit strange. We should be receiving word of the host and more in the next few weeks, according to our friends at Program Partners. We’ve also heard some reports that things aren’t going that smoothly on the set of Temptation, so I’d cross your fingers.

“Jeopardy!” History to be Made on Friday

TVBarn2 posted an email tune-in advisory for “Jeopardy!” on Friday, March 16th. Here’s what it says.

Dear Media Colleagues–

*This Friday, March 16th, 2007…and for the first time in 23 years,
“Jeopardy!” history will be made. *

It was such a remarkable event we consulted a Game Theory expert and he said
it may never happen again! I wish I could give you more information about
this special show, unfortunately, I can only encourage you and your valuable
readers to watch Friday’s program. Alex Trebek and our producers remain mum
and I, myself, have been sworn to secrecy.

Any special “tune-in” item for your readers, who are our viewers would be
greatly appreciated!

Please check your local listings for station and time. Thank you so much!

Best regards,

Jeff Ritter
Senior Publicist, “Jeopardy!”

Be sure to check it out! Anyone have any guess as to what it’ll be?

“Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy!” Renewed

From Cynopsis: Not surprising to anyone, the syndicated game show royalty of “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy!” have been renewed; this time through 2011-2012. As of now, the show has cleared about 1/3 of the country, and expect most of that to come around soon. This will bring “Wheel” to the 29th season and “Jeopardy!” the 28th.
